1/25/2006 3:35:24 PM
it doesnt matter how strong your abs are, if you have fat in front of them.plus, 3 months really isnt that long.
1/25/2006 3:37:10 PM
dont drink so damn much
1/25/2006 3:41:22 PM

i do 30 minutes of ab work, twice a week.basically lots of different cruch variations (crunches, leg lifts, reverse seated crunches, planks, etc), without putting your shoulders on the ground until the 30 minutes is up.its a class at my gym, and its pretty intense.[Edited on January 25, 2006 at 3:56 PM. yeah..losing weight is the easiest way to show results... I don't know how big you are, but any extra fat or anything and they will not show[Edited on January 25, 2006 at 3:51 PM. Reason : i do abas everyworkout..5days a week]

DOES A LOT OF CARDIO WORK (MOSTLY RUNNING) HELP IF YOU ARE DOING IT ALONG WITH THE AB WORKOUTS?
1/25/2006 3:51:44 PM
cardio works all the time, no matter what extra exercise youre doing.
1/25/2006 3:53:35 PM
as long as you lose weight by doing itTHAT"S UR ONLY ANSWER..NO MIRACLE WORKOUT!most ab exercises are the same shit.... if you want to show a six pack..lose weight..
1/25/2006 3:53:43 PM
1/25/2006 3:55:46 PM
try some resistance exercises on the abs.... When you work out your chest you dont do 100 reps of a light weight.... Use weights with your abs.Try some sports that require use of abs like swimming...Then burn some calories.
1/25/2006 3:56:09 PM
^^^YEAH THATS MY PROBLEM....I WEIGH ABOUT 210 LBS. NOW AND THE LIFTING PROGRAM I AM ON FOR AT LEAST THE NEXT MONTH AND A HALF....IS MAKING ME GAIN WEIGHT (GRANTED I'VE GOTTEN A LOT STRONGER)....I JUST FEEL A LOT FATTER BECAUSE I'M NOT DOING MUCH CARDIO AND I HAVE BEEN DOING A LOT OF AB WORKOUTS BUT HAVE NOT SEEN MUCH........ONCE MARCH COMES I WILL START ON A NEW PROGRAM WHERE I WILL BE FOCUSING ON CUTTING UP INSTEAD OF GETTING STRONGER[Edited on January 25, 2006 at 3:57 PM. Nate, here's some of the shit i've been doing:grab a bar/barbells or something, lie flat on your back with legs out straight, do a crunch up and push the bar towards the ceilingbicycle motion crunches, basically bring left knee to right elbow, then right knee to left elbow, etcmedicine ball with handles, lie flat on your back and crunch to push the ball towards the ceiling for 8 reps, then lie back and bend all the way and touch the ball to your toes for 1 rep. Repeat with 7 reps for crunch and 2 for the toe touch with the ballsupine leg raises, lie flat on your back on the floor, keep legs out straight and raise them off the floor towards the ceilingincline leg raises, in a hanging position, raise your knees to your chestwe've got some machine at the gym too to work out your obliques, torso rotationthere's also the ab crunch machine[Edited on January 25, 2006 at 3:59 PM. Reason : variation is probbly good for your abs]

make sure you work the abs from different angles---twisting incline sit ups - touch your knee with the opposite elbow- get on knees, hold rope or bar ( the one you would use for tricep push-downs) and crunch down, keeping legs rigid ( it should almost like you're trying to give yourself head).-work the obliques too

you can also do some good oblique crunches on the back extension thinghttp://us.commercial.lifefitness.com/content.cfm/backextension_4just stand on it sidewaysback extensions should also be part of your "core training" along with abs, hip flexors, and obliques

I haven't seen my abs since I was a freshman... the cardio, crunches, and 1500 cal a day diet for my new years resolution is killing me, but they are starting to come back. Last semester most meals of the day were fast food... like 4000 cal a day. Pizza hut buffet with 2000 cal in one sit-in was crazy.
1/25/2006 4:12:01 PM
I do twice a week. Monday - Weighted Abs...Friday - Circuit. Trying doing press' and other stuff on a swiss ball.

1/25/2006 5:55:42 PM
10% OR LESS HUH? I'M PROBABLY AT LIKE 12 OR 13
1/25/2006 5:56:31 PM
STOP FUCKING TYPING IN CAPS YOU FUCKTWIT.
1/25/2006 5:58:30 PM
You need to run. Preferably as early in the morning as possible to kick your metabolism up. Distance is good, but also change it up with some plyometrics, sprints, and backpedals. Do an ab workout everyday, and target all angles. Do the excercises slowly and concentrate on working the abs. DO NOT SACRIFICE FORM FOR SPEED AND REPS. DO NOT BE LIKE THE GUYS IN THE GYM THAT SWING BACK AND FORTH TO DO BICEP CURLS! Chances are that you might be staying up all night and sleeping late too. Thats bad. Wake up at the same time everyday, eat a light breakfast, then run. DO NOT SKIP BREAKFAST. That slows your metabolism down more than anything. Do not eat or drink anything but water 3 hours before you go to sleep. Other than that, you can eat anything you want to during the day.
1/25/2006 6:02:46 PM
I once heard adding enough resistance to keep the reps down to 12-15 was a good thing for ab excercises and something most people didn't do...I mean, you wouldn't build your biceps by doing 100's of reps, you'd add resistance and do less reps. Is this true for abs as well?

1/25/2006 6:16:18 PM
Pilates will do wonders for your abs. A lot of pilates focuses on the core of your body which are your abs...mine got stronger within a week of doing pilates. Do then, run, ad crunches every day and you will def. see improvement.

my abs are still hurting from doing 8 minute abs a couple days agoi use to do that shit everyday
1/25/2006 8:23:25 PM
You need to do more crunches dude, and stop eating so much shit. All the fat on your stomach is making your abbs look like triple boobs from total recall, just, take some time each day, plan out a schedule to do some excercise. Try to get lower body and legs that will help you burn some of the excess fat, and get a medicine ball for twists, and 400 situps everyday is not going to show any difference by 400 situps every 2 days.

everyone is jacked under their muscle, everyone has a six pack, under their muscle. remove the fat first then do some crunches with weights.[Edited on January 25, 2006 at 9:10 PM. Reason : []

you can do abs more than other muscles, but watch how much you're doing every day. I try to do 2-3 ab exercises every day i lift (4-6x's/wk)week. each day doing slightly different movements. Also add weight to the situation, like any other muscle if you want your abs to get bigger you need to add weight to the equation. You probably don't want your abs to get grossly big, but if you don't have shit there it doesn't matter if fat is covering it up or not. Cardio, high intesity for 25-30 minutes 4-6 days a week. If whatever you're doing starts getting easier, don't increase the time, go harder/faster. Then watch your diet big time, that's all seeing your abs is about. cut high-glycemic carbs, and booze as much as you can. also find out what your avg. daily caloric intake is and cut it by say 400 (hi glycemic carbs, and saturated fats especially) calories. If after like 10-14 days you haven't lost a pound cut it a couple hundred more. try to watch how many carbs you take in as you get closer to going to sleep (after you work out carbs aren't that nec. unless you workout early in the day). try to get 4-6 smaller meals a day instead of 2-3 big meals.exercises: cable crunchesdeclined situps with weight, add a twist to both sides for your obliquesside bends with a dumbbellplanksside plankscrunchsreverse crleg raisesetc.[Edited on January 25, 2006 at 9:20 PM. I do about 20 minutes of abs 2 times a week.-3 sets of sit-ups on a decline bench, 20 or 30 reps-then I get a 100lb dumbell...roll it up against the wall, lay flat on my back gripping the dumbell on both sides with the top of my head in front of the dumbell...keep my legs straight and lift them and touch the wall behind me...sometimes twisting my legs as I go up, switching to the left, and then to the right to get the obliques...3-sets of that at about 20 or 30 repsThen I just do some situps on an ab ball and a couple other random ab exercises. Those first two exercises usually do a good job of getting me sore the next day. I'm not big on using weights when I do abs. Someone earlier mentioned that you don't exercise your chest with 100 reps.....but you're also not looking for the same results. I use to hold a 45lb plate and do sit-ups on a decline bench and my abs got BIG...but they stuck out and didn't "cut up" as much. Bottom line...do more cardio and eat healthier. As far as ab exercises go...use more resistance, but I wouldn't use big weights.
