Nope I win. My street is dead end so they have turn around at the end before they can hook any cars (cuz if they hook them going in there is no way to turn around to leave). You can always hear his truck go by inside the house so I just went out there and leaned on the neighbors car cuz it was parked on Hunters Club. (easy tow and they get them all the time) Fucker did not even bother stopping. Then I had to pound on the neighbors door for ten minutes to get him to wake the fuck up. I think he planned on just leaving it there for a second then moving it but passed out.

For those of you that dont know the predatory towing ordinance sets the maximum fees for predatory towing in the city of Raleigh. Midsouth tried to rip one of my friends off one time and got called out on it because we knew about this.

- The cant charge more than $100 for a predatory tow
- Must be staffed 24 hours if they are enganged in predatory towing (to allow owners to pick up cars at any time)
- They can only carge $50 for a drop fee if you catch them before they pull away.

^ they have bullshitted us on the second two multiple times.

Evidence here.
http://www.wral.com/news/4001772/detail.html

Midsouth WILL try to charge you $100 for a drop fee cuz most people dont know about this. If they do just threaten to report them and you will get your money back. My friend did it.

Midsouth WILL also try to tell you when you can and cannot pick up your car (done that to me too) but if you feel the urge to be a dick you can make them wait at the lot as long as you want. If they have any cars on the lot that were predatory towed they have to let you get them out no matter what time it is.

I have a lot of run ins with these fuckers cuz I entertain over here quite a bit and the parking in Hunters Creek is retarded.

Quote :
"A new ordinance against predatory towing takes effect in Raleigh on Thursday. Predatory towing means your car has been towed without your consent, excluding orders that come from the city or police. If that happens, the new ordinance gives you more ways to get your car back faster and cheaper.

The signs warning people not to park in Raleigh's downtown private lots make it clear what will happen if you do. Your errand may be quick, but tow trucks can be even quicker.

"It took four minutes to get my order. Before I could walk out the door, my car was out of the drive, up the road and gone,' Pan Hopkins said.

The Raleigh City Council has fielded complaints by people who have parked illegally. They said they have had to pay as much as $125 to get their cars back.

The new ordinance means you cannot be charged more than $100 for tows without consent.

The ordinance also requires tow truck operators to accept credit or debit cards.

If you return to your car before the tow truck leaves the lot, you can get your car back for a charge up to $50.

Tow impound lots now have to have an attendant on site 24 hours a day. That way, someone can respond to drivers' calls within 15 minutes and release their vehicles within 45 minutes of the request.

The ordinance also requires towing companies to notify police within an hour of tows made without consent.

Another change -- towing companies can no longer charge you for removing your personal property from your towed car."

There is a towing company based jsut inside downtown Raleigh. They towed my car back in 2000 and when I get there there was a scratch along the side. Sure it was a shitty car (Geo Storm) but that scratch wasn't there. I called the police wrote up a report and threatened to sue. I got my car plus $200 to not take them to court.

I have a good friend who went and stole his truck BACK from the towing company one night after they towed it. They reported it stolen, cops showed up at his place in the morning asking about it-- and after it came out what happened, the towing company threatened to press tresspassing charges. They didn't, because he just paid the fine and they were okay with that.

We found out later that if he had of wrecked it but they were unable to prove it was HIM that stole it back and wrecked it, they would have been 100% liable for replacing the vehicle. What I still dont know is-- can you get in trouble for STEALING your own car? I know you can get the tresspassing charge for going into their lot to GET it, but surely not grand theft auto...

CamAros are rear wheel drive and have to tow them with the front wheels trailing unless they use a dolly. The rear wheels won't roll when the car is off and in gear (park or ebrake is on). The tow might have messed something up, but it's not because they towed it with the front wheels down (unless it's the steering column lock that is messed up).

As long as the front overhang on a Camaro is, I would think that towing it with the nose down would scrape the hell out of the front air dam over bumps. My car would have the same problem (Lincoln Mark VIII, long-snouted RWD car). I would assume the towing company would be at fault in that case, because they didn't take the extra precautions (i.e. dolly or rollback) to tow it without damagae?

The best was when my car got towed out of MY OWN LOT, because I had just moved into Gorman Crossings for the summer, and had gotten my parking tags only a few hours before, and hadn't put them on, in a back lot with dozens of empty spaces all around.

Fuckers cost me $125 to get it back.

The only time i've ever called to get someone towed was when they double parked me in a lot off glenwood south. Idiots deserved it, it was 2:30am and they were nowhere to be seen. Funny how it didn't take that tow truck but about 5 minutes to get there

I had my car towed once, except that halfway through it they must have realized that I lived there. They just dropped the car in the middle of the fucking parking lot and left. The next day my car was just chilling out there, I guess my neighboors must have thought I was drunk or something.

I've heard that they can't tow a car with a person in it. Is there any validity to this? I would think it's rather dangerous. If this is true, I'd jump in my car even if they were starting to lift it and then call the police if they tried to drive with me in the car.

I parked at a business in downtown Raleigh that had a "parking for customers only" sign or something. I was running a quick errand and was back maybe 5 minutes later, but it was long enough for the owner to notice and call a tow truck. The owner was waiting at my car raising hell when I got back, telling me all about how he'd called a towing company. He told me that I couldn't move my car until the truck got there. I was like fuck that, and drove off.

I sued them and won.
I made $5 off the ordeal.

The tow company paid me $160 in $1 bills.

They will not charge you more if you make it difficult.

You can try:
turning your wheels all the way in either direction
Parking right against a curb, like 0'' off of it.
Parking brake
Car in gear w/ manual trans
Lower your car

None of these will stop them. If they want your car, then they will take it.
Most companies will lift the car up, and dolly the other end. That way the say they didn't break any suspension or stearing components.

LOL, I once shouted "God hates ppl who tow cars" at one of the Ace Towing guys. He was like "Fuck You!" I still feel vindicated.

I got back a little at another guy in Asheville for towing my ex's car from an empty parking lot at Biltmore Mall... it was the day Reagan died and I asked why the fuck his was the only flag not at half mast. Then as the gate opened I was walking into the yard a bulldog came after me. I was wearing steel-toed boots and I punted that motherfucker John Derany-style, that pissed the dude off even more. He got his money and I don't feel like I won, but I felt a little better. (I'm pretty sure he knew the dawg was there.)

I remember when there was that sign in the window of UT for the longest time... "Fuck Ace Towing"

I think my tow truck drive stoppage story wins...unfortunately I'm a bad story teller and need sleep so here goes...

one night down in charlotte on the night of a david matthews band concert me and some friends were staying with a guy that lives next to the concert pavillion.. of course they were towing like crazy that night since people kept trying to park in the regular ppls spots (each person that lived at the complex had an assigned spot). one of the girls i went there with had parked in the spot of one of the ppl that lived with the guy i went to see (he wasnt there for the wknd) but she didnt have his parking pass. about 4am we hear the tow truck outside which was a flatbed style one. i'm not really sure how they usually do it, but they pretty much hooked her jeep up to the winch and were pulling it up the bed of the tow truck. anyways, i went back inside thinking ok there's not shit we can do so lets wake the girl up and let her know she's gonna need some cash to get her jeep back. next thing i hear are tires squeaking and go outside to see my drunk ass buddy driving the jeep around the parking lot laughing at the tow truck guy. i never really figured out how he got the jeep off the tow truck but he did and it was the best thing ever knowing he fucked a tow truck driver out of $100+
