I was DDing for some freinds the other night and got a speeding ticket on Centennial. 54 in a 40. I thought I would catch a break since I was a DD, but the cop didnt seem to agree. The ticket costs me 135 bucks or I could hire a lawyer for over 300.What should I do here, pay the fine, or get a lawyer? You think playing the DD card could help me out in court?

talk to one of the NC state lawyers for free, i dont think they can do much if its a NC state cop, but they have connections...
1/24/2006 1:00:10 AM
were you actually going 14 over, or is that what he wrote it up as?
1/24/2006 1:02:27 AM
Yes i was going 14 over
1/24/2006 1:09:05 AM
i would say just try to get it lowerd to 9 over, and then pay...
1/24/2006 1:13:11 AM
if you were actually going 14 over, then it's all but automatic that the DA will drop it to 9-over, no questions asked.go to court, ask for 9-over, pay the premium highway usage tax, and go about your business.[Edited on January 24, 2006 at 1:16 AM. Reason : i've won the fast driving award plenty of times. don't sweat it.]
1/24/2006 1:15:48 AM
Get it lowered (which you could do, try and contact the assistant DA before the court date, explaining your situation), and get your friends to split the costs.
1/24/2006 1:15:52 AM
yeah, you might be able to cut a deal over the phone and save yourself a trip to court.
1/24/2006 1:16:51 AM
yeah call the DAdont even mention the DD thing they dont carejust ask if they will accept a 9 over guilty plea
1/24/2006 1:17:51 AM
A friendly letter would work too.
1/24/2006 1:18:15 AM
duke how many MPG ur car getif u wanna risk it dude, plead the 14th amendment, if u get lucky...ur free[Edited on January 24, 2006 at 1:21 AM. Reason : d]
1/24/2006 1:20:52 AM
^^^exactlyit's basically a racket, anyway. Just look at it like this...they want your money. you want to drive fast. driving fast is like a premium usage allowance. you have to pay extra to be able to do it.^25 highway, slightly less than that around town (prob like 24 if you drive it easy. more like 20 if you drive it like i do).[Edited on January 24, 2006 at 1:22 AM. 1/24/2006 1:21:34 AM
james crouch
1/24/2006 1:23:11 AM
yeah, that's one option. basically a means of paying off the system. he ain't gonna do any johnny cochrane shit.but unless you really can't afford a 9-over ticket, i'd just go that route unless Crouch was pretty sure he could get it totally dismissed (not PJC or any shit like that)
1/24/2006 1:25:32 AM
i've always thought of a speeding ticket as a premium fee for being able to drive faster than the average joe.
1/24/2006 1:29:34 AM
yeah, i used to get fucking furious at the system, because it's such a racket.then i just accepted that it is what it is (at least to the point that it doesn't piss me off every time i get into a car), and that i will drive more or less like i want, and that it will cost me money from time to time.
1/24/2006 1:32:59 AM
What happens though if you get so many tickets, they revoke your license?
1/24/2006 1:37:12 AM
that won't happen.i mean, it can. bigblueram has lost his license a couple of times, i think...but you almost have to work at it.
1/24/2006 1:39:15 AM
drive anyways.
1/24/2006 1:39:23 AM
that was always my take on my fraternity getting put on social probation when i was in college.party anyway.what're they gonna do? put you on social probation?[Edited on January 24, 2006 at 1:43 AM. Reason : driving w/o a license is a little different, though.]
1/24/2006 1:43:29 AM
if i already have one speeding ticket at 9 over from a year ago, and i just got a 15 over, you think i can get it to 9 over again, and will it still get my insurance?
1/24/2006 4:32:37 AM
the DA's office doesn't take care of speeding tickets over the phone...just FYI
1/24/2006 6:43:59 AM
yeah i thought the 9-over was a one-time deal for your first ticket so it wouldn't affect your insurance points.you're saying you only have to pay for driving faster than everyone once in a while, but you have to pay higher insurance rates when you get multiple tickets so that wouldn't be completely true.you COULD try this stuff:http://www.tipmra.com/sample/tipmra_sample.htmhttp://www.beatmyspeedingticket.com/noticket.phpbut i don't know if it would work.]
1/24/2006 6:50:40 AM
i would get a lawyer (i always have), insurance rates are extremely high, and they are getting a huge increase this year, i find it a lot better to pay $300 for a lawyer than to have 3 years of high rates - a friend of mine got her first ticket (dropped to 9 over) and her insurance almost trippled - so I would take the lawyer route - you can always go improper equipment or prayer for judgement - improper equipment rox tho[Edited on January 24, 2006 at 10:23 AM. Does anyone know any good traffic attorney's in Guilford County area?, picked up an 80 in a 65 over the MLK break. thanks for the help.
1/24/2006 1:13:51 PM
A lawyer is nothing but a professional butt kisser. However they are worth it sometimes. Because if you don't get it reduced, the insurance will make you wish you had paid that 300 bucks
1/24/2006 10:51:13 PM
1/25/2006 12:15:30 AM
I got 2 tickets within 2 months of each other and got them both reduced. The second time I went they asked me if I had gotten a ticket in the last 3 years and I said no. It seemed to work cause this was 6 months ago and I just renewed my insurance and there were no points of any kind on the renewal. 236 bucks for 6 months bitches

After two speeding tickets, my solution: Escort Radar detector
1/25/2006 9:31:50 PM
hahah im gonna copy and paste this to a text file for every time this thread comes up....dont call up there and bug the people. just show up on the court date. if its the 730-330 court, show up at like 1030. if you show up around 8 or 9, youre gonna be in line for fucking ever. but anyways, you wont even have to really bring it up to the ADA, they pretty much ask you if you'll plead guilty to 9 over. there are gonna be like 400 people on the docket each day in that courtroom, and if all of them plead not guilty the system would bottleneck like crazy.... so they give away some pretty sweet deals in traffic court(i still think a "not guilty strike" where everyone plead not guilty would be fucking awesome)
1/26/2006 2:01:34 AM
how bout not speeding next time
1/26/2006 2:37:14 AM

^ that's what i thought but all these fuckers are saying you can get multiple tickets dropped to 9 over without any ramifications to their insurance]
1/26/2006 9:01:20 AM
You can only get a certian number of 9 overs within a certain time period without it affecting you. I dont remember the specifics because the lawyer usually handles them. However I do remember him specifically telling me that the DA fucked me really bad by wasting my PJC on the first one because that would not have hurt me anyway.
1/26/2006 9:14:58 AM
Got a ticket this morning for 15 over. Tried the whole "call the DA and get it reduced" thing and it didn't work. According to them there is no way to get it reduced outside of court. Anyone going down Clark/Faircloth, look out for Officer Taylor. He likes to sit at the bottom of the hill and give you speeding tickets and BS non-signed registration card tickets.
2/1/2006 10:56:28 AM
go to court, when you get there, speak to the DA (you have to do this... it is the way it works)ask the DA if he can reduce the charge to 9 over, and then just say "guilty" to the judge when he/she calls you up.it's not hard.]
2/1/2006 11:20:13 AM
^ AND DONT WAST THE PJC IF ITS YOUR FIRST TICKET
2/1/2006 5:04:32 PM
would i be able to get a ticket for 18 over reduced to 9 over?
2/1/2006 9:59:33 PM
probably.
2/1/2006 10:02:33 PM
sweet
2/1/2006 10:22:56 PM
im going to durham for court tomorrow for my 15 over, my second in maybe a year and a half as i previously mentioned. the internet is telling me to plead not guilty, but that seems to complicated. although, some wolfwebbers claim it might not affect my insurance if i get it reduced to 9 over. should i have gotten a lawyer? if i should have, can i do some sort of continuance tomorrow when i go? or should i use my pfj?
