anyone have any type of furniture from pier1 (bedroom, dining room, etc). if so what do you think of it. it seems like is priced decent for the number of pieces you get (bedroom furniture).

i've got a couch from there. has lasted about 4-5 years?

i don't think they expected me to use it, b/c after the 1st year, it started falling apart.

the center wood support broke and dips in permanently (after 4 years).

had a furniture guy come out and he said, "what the hell is this" and "burn it".

it's built so cheaply that i'm surprised it's lasted this long.

in part, don't waste your money.

I think the general idea is don't buy like complete furniture sets from there. But any of their accessories are usually really unique/cool/nice and get the job done well for the price.

i have a papasan chair. have owned it for about 5-6 years and it finally started to break. it is fine for the most part, but if you put the cusion in a certain way you can tip it over easily. we didnt really sit in it for the first year or 2, but i've been happy overall considering they are pretty cheap/comfortable.

pier1 is really good for decorative accessories, seasonal stuff, glass wear etc. Any "furniture" that I (or my parents) have is mostly things that really don't get used a whole lot. We have a wicker chair and some tables/shelves in the sunroom from there, but it's a room that really isn't used too much. We've never had anything break so it's probably just dependent on where you're going to put it, what purpose it's used for, etc.

The good thing about it is you can get really good deals on seasonal decorations. I bought (nice) tiki torches for a BBQ party last year for ~$2 each, and they're really good about having everything in one place (IE: they had the citronella oil with it for not much $ either). I've had them since the end of the summer, they've stayed outside on the porch and they're still in good shape for this summer.

imo, it is built rather cheaply. great place for accessories (as others have said) but durability is lacking. good thing to look for - check drawers out, if they use staples or glue, it is shit. quality drawers (and thus quality furniture) will be dove tailed. also, if you want quality, buy real wood. particle board furniture falls apart in short order.

there are tons of places in nc to get great furniture cheap. go to the hickory furniture mall. tons of outlets. highpoint has a bunch of stores as well. and there is an awesome store in the old clemmons school near winston salem - bunches of really really nice furniture - seconds, some defects, etc but great furniture. before i moved down to louisiana, i picked up a natuzzi leather living room set for $2400 at the hickory mall. retail is $5000+. also bought a solid cherry queen bedroom suit for $1800. retail was around $4000.
