so my Final Fantasy XI disk wasn't working and after reading on the XBOX forums, I boiled it in water for about half a minute. It's working perfectly now!Can anyone explain this phenomenon?
1/21/2006 6:41:04 PM
wtf kind of nonsense is this? i never would have believed it
1/21/2006 6:44:23 PM
SeriouslyI was surprised myself, but it works.
1/21/2006 6:45:56 PM
if its trueprobably smooths the plastic that covers the datai think he's just trolling though
1/21/2006 6:49:08 PM
gargs troll!?!? say it aint so!!1!11!1
1/21/2006 6:50:45 PM
if you put it in the microwave for a little while it works too
1/21/2006 6:51:11 PM
all you have to do is search forums.xbox.com to see if I am trolling.
1/21/2006 6:51:43 PM
and it has nothing to do with smoothening the surface. I am talking about a brand new DVD I bought yesterday with a magazine that wouldn't work.
1/21/2006 6:52:21 PM
does it work with DVD-R's as well? haven't read the forum you mentioned yet...
1/21/2006 6:54:19 PM
I have no clue and that is why I am asking. For the record, the DVD wasn't scratched or anything. It was brand new and the XBOX wasn't reading it.
1/21/2006 6:55:01 PM
i've found several sites talking about itand nobody knows why it worksholla at a techno placebo
1/21/2006 7:01:22 PM
IT isn't a placebostop trollingMy disk wasn't working at all.and now I am playing the damn game.
1/21/2006 7:03:32 PM
no you're not
1/21/2006 7:07:10 PM
this makes me giggle a little
1/21/2006 7:57:23 PM
The Xbox is so awesome that you have to cook the games to make them work.

I wonder who the first guy to think "well gee, I wonder what will happen if I stick this DVD in some boiling water!" was, and how he went from that, to sticking the boiled disc in his xbox.because that is some crazy ass logic right there.
1/21/2006 10:00:00 PM
I wouldn't think this trick would work with the DVD-Rs because aren't they heat activated? I think it would ruin them.
1/21/2006 10:27:22 PM
yeah ive heard about this before too. i have no idea why it works of course.
1/21/2006 10:31:44 PM
haha he told woodfoot to stop trolling over what he posted
1/21/2006 11:02:57 PM
That seems it could risk damaging the silk screening, which could expose and damage the reflective layer.
1/22/2006 12:34:51 AM
Well come tell me that it doesn't work while i am sitting here playing it.
2/1/2006 3:14:27 PM
That's a hot game.
2/1/2006 3:51:55 PM
I have also heard of this, but have not tried it. I have no idea what makes it work.
2/1/2006 3:58:49 PM
the person who thought of this probably had a good understanding of DVD materials and manufacturing processes
2/1/2006 4:02:09 PM
i'd say it's generally a bad idea to cook DVDs.
2/1/2006 4:14:35 PM
the reason is obviousboiling stuff in water kills germs. electronics dont work because of bugs, which are also germs. boiling stuff kills the techno germs.i recently boiled my laptop when it got a virus and it killed the virus
2/1/2006 4:15:15 PM
the boiling water removes the thin film or residue left over from the disc manufacturing process. this film causes the disc to be read incorrectly, and interpreted as a "dirty disc" or "disc read error"it doesnt change the size or shape of the disc, doesnt smooth the plastic, doesnt melt the silkscreened image on the top of the disc, just removes the residue from the disc that cant be removed by just an alcohol cleaner solution or simple wiping. Its the heat of the boiling water that does it[/thread]

2/3/2006 7:33:12 PM
as if the freezer trick isnt wtf enough
2/3/2006 8:50:37 PM
come on guys, the first thing that comes to my mind when my DVD's dont work is time to heat up a pot of water. duh.[Edited on February 4, 2006 at 4:58 AM. Reason : ]
