i brought this up to my friends tonight and they thought i was odd for ever caring/thinking about this, but when i worked in retail, i thought about it all the timei always hoped someone would make a purchase of 13.59, and pay with a 50. The change would then be 36.41 consisiting of 1 of each currency in the cash drawer...1 twenty, 1 ten, 1 five, 1 one, 1 quarter, 1 dime, 1 nickel, and 1 penny (i guess if someone makes a purchase of 13.59 and pays with a 100 you could give them a 50 too, but thats just too bizarre to happen)i don't remember ever having the fortune of this event, but 36.41 is what i call the magic number of cash registering.anyone? am i the only one?

You must have had a boring job to think about stuff like this . . .
1/20/2006 11:07:25 PM
^have you ever worked retail?
1/20/2006 11:08:51 PM
I thought about this too, and I did get to do it with both a 50 and a 100. I worked at a Food Lion when I was in high school for like 2 1/2 years. I felt odd thinking about it, but now I don't!

you're not alone, i worked a gas station for a while, that and many things go thu your mind in a job like that, its sorta happend sometimes and i always say something to the customer, they dont care

i think i might just go to a store, buy something for 13.59, pay with a 50...and wait...make eye contact, see if they are part of the few. haha...if some kid was like, "dude, you've made my day with this purchase" i'd be stoked

^the trick is getting just the right amount pre-tax. and i don't even know what sales tax rate is these days, sad to say...

I think I sold a product for $13.25 last night and the subtotal was $14.25 it raised my eyebrow... but I wasn't actually working, I was just hanging around dad's store.[Edited on January 21, 2006 at 10:15 AM. Reason : wasn't]

leave it to a Jew to be fascinated by such a trivial occurrence.
1/21/2006 10:41:48 AM
yes, i actually have thought about this, but i usually think about just the $.41 change variant
1/21/2006 1:30:20 PM
I think 12.70 would be the pretax number
1/21/2006 2:46:42 PM
depends on what kind of products they're buying
1/21/2006 3:04:28 PM
I passed the time by arguing with the customers. They always did dumb shit. Always right my ass.
