I have to get mine yanked out of my skull in the near future. I am wondering who did yours and what it was like.I'm about to go to this dr. Jefferson guy on Old Wake Forrest Rd. If anyone knows anything about this guy- holler at me.In the meantime- let's share what it was like and how long it took you to be back to eating normal foods.

my husband's wisdom teeth had come in all the way. he went to Eric Davis in RTP over where 55 and 54 intersect. all they did was numb him up and pull them out. he was doing well in less than a week, and eating fairly quickly. i mean, it always hurts when they do things like this, but it seemed to me he recovered fairly quickly. they did prescribe 800mg ibuprofen and a separate hydrocodone for pain but he didn't use it very much. he was able to get them taken out on a saturday, and he only took monday off of work (and he would have probably been fine to go to work that day, he just wanted to use his day before the end of the year)~Skip

i had 6 teeth pulled when i was younger while in the chair (similar to the exp described above). it wasnt that bad and i really hate novacane needles in my mouth. i got no pain medication or anything so i cant imagine teeth in the back of ur mouth will be much worse.

I wish I could remember the name of the guy that did mine...He was at some place on Wake Forest Rd. I had one toof that was growing sideways straight into the other teeth. He had to break it into peices and then pull it out. He ko'd me and everything went smooth as shit. They used a Valium IV to knock me out. I never thought there was shit to Valium before then, but that was some serious shit through an IV.[Edited on January 19, 2006 at 9:43 AM. Reason : .]

Had mine done by a moron when I was still in middle school back in Ga. Now I have crazy problems with my teeth and gums because of it. Always getting infected.
1/19/2006 10:01:06 AM
Dr Shelby Smithey, he's in Cary. I was very impressed with him and his staff.I took about a week to get back to normal foods. I didn't mind all the mashed potatoes though! :-)

I just got mine done on january 3rd by Dr. Mark Kozacko, he's located in north raleigh on Falls of the Neuse.he did a great job, my face wasn't very swollen at all. not very much pain. good staff.
1/19/2006 7:08:09 PM
had mine taken out 2 years ago (in Dallas, sorry) but i had twilight anesthesia.... the whole thing took no time. i had no swelling, no bleeding after the first day. i only took the painkiller they gave me once, and only to make me fall asleep quicker. i was back on solid foods maybe 3 days later. i also realize i had a way better experience than a lot of people.

i had all 4 of mine taken out the day before thanksgiving a couple years ago. i was pretty high when i left then i got pretty grossed out when i had to change the dressings when i got home and also cleaning the food out of the holes. i recommend diluting mouthwash with water to avoid throwing up every time. i ate a close to regular thanksgiving but then after a few days developed dry sockets and that was pure hell. i had to stop by the doctor's every other day after school for 2 weeks to have him change the things in there to make them heal. that was also disgusting and was incredibly painful. i don't know how to avoid them, but i would sure ask if there is a way. Oh yeah I got it done in Burlington by Dr. Davis on Church St. He is pretty old and has been doing it a long time. My face didn't swell or bruise or anything like that, and i only had to change the dressings a few times that day and it didn't bleed any more.[Edited on January 19, 2006 at 9:27 PM. Reason : .]
1/19/2006 9:25:55 PM
what are these dry sockets yall speak of?
1/19/2006 9:30:26 PM
Ok, I'm keeping mine in. They only hurt when they came in but don't anymore.
1/19/2006 10:04:04 PM
getting my wisdom teeth pulled fucking ruledi was ragin the night before and was still a bit drunk when I went in. Instead of taking the anesthesia (which would have been wicked lame) I took the laughing gas, which fucking ruled.basically I was rocked out of my gourd watching my teeth get pulled which was fun as hell, i was literally laughing after each tooth was yanked out (had 4 total pulled). There was of course no pain because they numb the hell out of you.Afterwards, I got a bottle of percocets, which needless to say, allowed the party to continue for another few days.I wish I had more wisdom teeth to give, it was awesome.
1/19/2006 10:32:01 PM
My neighbor did it when I was in high school.
1/19/2006 10:33:32 PM
I never had wisdom teeth in my head AT ALL.Does this mean I'm a retard?

I had 6 wisdom teeth. No lie. My older sister only had two. Also, get the drugs for it, not just a local anesthetic. They rock you out. You are so fucked.
1/19/2006 10:48:32 PM
I made them give me mine, I have all 4 (well, they had to shatter one, so it's in pieces) in a pill bottle. Wanna see?
1/19/2006 10:57:17 PM
I saved mine in a bottle too, I wanna get them made into cufflinks
1/19/2006 11:07:48 PM
Do you actually need to have them out or can you go through life with them?My dentist in Winston has been saying I need them out for the longest time, but they cause me no pain and there's nothing wrong with them tooth wise. I really don't believe a word that comes out of his mouth though.[Edited on January 19, 2006 at 11:09 PM. Reason : .]

I dont even know if i have wisdom teeth. I know my dad only had 2 out of four and they had to go.22 and not a sign of them yet. (here's hoping i dont even have the fuckers)As far as whether you need them out, most people seem to need them out, but then again, that may be a way for folks to get money (i suspect it is).Get a second opinion if you doubt it. I know my mom should have had hers out, and they fucked up her teeth when they came in becuase she didnt. My dad wouldnt have had to have his out if the 2 he had were on the same side, he had 2 on top and none on bottom and supposedly if it's like that they have to go so your jaw doesnt get fucked.however, they're natrual, some folks have them their whole lives. i'm honestly kinda wondering why so many folks have to have them out.[Edited on January 19, 2006 at 11:11 PM. i had just gotten back from a week long school trip to savannah georgia and started dating this girl i met who also was on the trip. they didn't put me under, gave me some kind of sedative instead. i have no memories of like a 4 day span. i found out later that the girl called me the day after i had them pulled to check on me, i had no memory of her, pissed her off and she hung up, she called the next day and the same thing happened. when she called the third day afterwards i remembered and appologized, she understood and thought it was pretty funny.i only have memory of about 10 minutes between the day before and the following 2 days.mine had to come out, my jaw is croweded enough with the other teeth. my molars are fucking huge compared to the rest of my teeth causing my bottom teeth to be so tight that i can barely fit floss between them.[Edited on January 19, 2006 at 11:17 PM. Still have mine, and they're all cut, so I guess I'm keeping them. Now begins the lifelong bout with cavities.

I need to get mine taken out but I'm limited to a few certain doctors by the insurance policy my mom has, so I need to research them.I wish I could just leave them in but they're coming in crooked (all four of them) and are pretty painful, plus I think there's a cavity on one of them, but I'm not sure because I've never had a cavity before.

my future mother-in-law helped pull minehttp://www4.ncsu.edu/~cmmeckol/wisdom.avithere's no sound in that file, but bruce springsteen live in concert was playing over the speakers in the room. everything was swell until i threw up later that day. that caused me to pull my mouth open to an extent and super swell up on one side.me before...i'm aware i have letterman teeth me during...cognitive and having fun. as they pulled the teeth out, i asked to see them before they set them aside. they even put them in a bag for me to keep (my girlfriend made me throw them away recently)me after...this was at the new hampshire airport. my girlfriend and i (well, she) had burger king. she offered me a fry and i had trouble getting it into my mouth and i started to cry. the drugs i was on turned me into a little girl

I keep putting my extraction off because I've had foreign language classes and don't want to have speech issues.
1/20/2006 2:29:39 AM
It wasn't bad at all. I laid in bed for two days, then started eating soft stuff- jello- mashed potatoes- soup. Ice cream was too cold- you want things that are moderate in temperature. Didn't get them out in Raleigh though- so I can't recommend anyone. The anesthesia was great- it was the last time I had a good sleep Don't procrastinate getting them out- I had a friend who was afraid to get them out- what ended up happening is that they grew in and screwed up the alignment of all of her other teeth- she had to get braces on them again to fix them (yep, it happens)
1/20/2006 9:34:35 AM
i went to an oral surgeon in greenville...he was fantastic. i was in zero pain the next day and had no problems. but i can't remember his name off the top of my head.
1/20/2006 9:50:56 AM
my top two teeth never developed, and my bottom two were/are impacted. i had one removed in july. i was given a couple of shots of novacaine. an hour and a half later when Dr. Czinsky (i dunno if that is how it is spelled...his first name is Steve) was pulling the pieces of my tooth out, it kinda started to hurt a bit...the novacaine was beginning to wear off. ick. it took forever for the one tooth. he was eventually like, 'ok, i'm tired. you'll have to come back for the other one.' i went to have my regular check up last month and the regular dentist guy looks at my x-ray and he's like, 'oh, you only had one removed. when are you going to get the other one done?' me: i'll schedule it when i leave. you wanna do it? (he is a qualified surgeon as well.) to which he responds: 'me? i ain't touching that thing. you see your nerve under that tooth? i don't want you hating me and blaming me if anything goes wrong. get steve to do this one too.'ugh. i'm skerd. my appointment is feb. 6.

had one pulled 2 yrs ago by this guy:http://www.serenesmiles.com/index.html
1/20/2006 10:29:23 AM
I had mine removed about 4 years ago on my birthday at UNC-CH school of dentistry. They did an awesome job, no problems whatsoever. Hydrocodone knocked me out for the remainder of the day, but I was back to work and whatnot in the next day or so. (Mine weren't pulled, though. They were surgically removed.)
1/20/2006 1:31:13 PM
my bottom left one is coming in and i cant even chew on that side, the pain is now moving down into my throat. Is this normal or should I get it checked out? I know there is generally some pain even if they come in correctly.
1/22/2006 12:32:53 AM
i went to dr. claypool in durham..... just local anesthesia, in and out in 45 mins, laid up on vicodin for 24 hrs, not too bad.
1/22/2006 1:58:17 AM
having your wisdom teeth pulled preemptively is a racket perpetuated by dentists who take advantage of big insurance companiesa procedure i dont need? $30 copay? sure ill agree to it! meanwhile the dentist bills the insurance company 1000 bucks.they tried to get me with that a few years back, claiming that i would have all kinds of migranes and shit if i didnt have them removed in six months. here i am 6 years later and no problems what so ever.
1/22/2006 5:44:22 AM
Just had mine yanked Friday by Dr. Jefferson in Cary (I believe it's another office of the same one you're talking about). Getting them pulled was no problem with the IV sedation. However, my cheeks have looked like I crammed 200 marshmallows in them since the surgery. As long as you stay on the Advil / painkiller, it doesn't really hurt - I have yet to eat normal foods, though.

I Had mine pulled by a dentist on franklin street in chapel hill, I was fine in like 2 days, the hardest part was opening my mounth cause my jaw hurt so much. It was a great expereince and the dentist was very good, can't think of her name though.
