Been looking online and stuff, but can't seem to find any leads. Anyone know a good site or anything about houses for sale, close to campus, for students? Not for rent, for sale.

from my homebuying experience, online sites are typically out-of-date when it comes to the houses listed.the best thing to do is sit down with a good realtor, tell them what you're looking for, and how much you can afford, and then have them go on their MLS site (an up-to-date online site for realtors).there is no charge for realtors when you are buying.

^good advice. That's what I did.

http://www.realtor.com has a lot of listings on it, but you definetely should at least talk to a realtor...i'm currently looking for second investment property near NC State, and am working with a great realtor for the area. I will pm you all his information.

best deal in town is driftwood manor... you can get 2 bed, 1.5 bath for under 50k, or 3 bed, 2 bath for under 65k.I bought a condo there and it was 55k for 2bed, 1.5 bath, and an office, which is essentially a 3rd bedroom.

i left driftwood manor because it was turning seriously ghetto.I lived there for almost two years until they started having bottle fights in the parking lot in the middle of the night, and strange people would threaten me and my dog.... i wouldn't buy one of those places, because it'll be hard to get rid of once you find out all the shit.unless they have done something about all the shit that started going on, i would steer clear of there

^^ second realtor.com being crap... they are at minimum 2-3 days behind in getting listings, and they are alot of times months behind in updating the houses that have sold. That isnt even mentioning how shady some of their business dealings are with regards to agents.Find a site that allows you to connect to to MLS directly through a public IDX link like what he posted^^

I found my future place by searching realtor.com and then finding a sub-site (ERA realtors) that update their site really well.Of course, I was looking in the capital of WV, not near campus. I'd start by looking online and if you find a place you like, call the realtor associated with that place. If you like them, start asking them about similar places.

Houses inside the beltline, near campus are going to run 300k+, it's craazy.
1/20/2006 1:18:05 PM
you'd have to find a really crappy house and fix it up.

Realtor.com and all of the sites like HPW.com and ERA.com pull from the same data in the Multiple Listing Service, which by the way REALTORS enter and get real time updates from. If you are looking for a deal stop doing all of your own research. There are affordable houses near campus but they are not on the hillsborough side.

Yeah, anything near campus that isn't a shithole or riddled with bullets is going to cost you $texas.

coullda got a house in collegeview pretty cheap http://trianglelistings.marketlinx.com/SearchDetail/Scripts/PrtBuyFul/PrtBuyFul.asp?prp=mls&AgentId=R25036&EmailKey=7042659This house needs some serious TLC but if you could get it cheap enough it would serve your purposes as a student (location) and make a great rental later on. They would definitely have to come off of it substantially it has been on the market 287 days. [Edited on February 8, 2006 at 5:55 PM. Reason : ]
