It was great when the paint was so thick you had to squeeze between the wall and the rail sideways.
1/17/2006 9:06:37 PM
where did it go?is it still closed or something
1/17/2006 10:20:32 PM
I mean I miss walking through it many times a day......
1/17/2006 10:27:51 PM
eye seayeah, not many places on campus make you feel like you are somewhere betterthat was one though
1/17/2006 11:10:45 PM
I miss the smell of paint fumes in the morning!
1/18/2006 1:34:39 AM
anybody ever paint something?
1/18/2006 8:36:38 PM
I painted the exhaust up the steps to look like a mushroom. I've also puked in the tunnel on the way back from class.Whats the deal, are they not allowing any more paint now?
1/19/2006 7:44:30 AM
its closed so they can redo the stairs into stairs and wheelchair ramps, it should be back this semester.
1/19/2006 7:53:28 AM
Should open in March I believe....
1/19/2006 1:47:37 PM
I was reading a book called "Ole Raleigh Boys Reminisce" and some dude was talking about driving his Jeep down the stairs, through the tunnel, and back up sometime in the 40's or 50's. I guess the railings weren't installed back then.
1/19/2006 2:24:59 PM
how do you get across the railroad in that area with it closed? do you have to go all the way to Dan Allen Drive or that other tunnel?
1/19/2006 10:51:41 PM
they have been doing a lot to itthe have covered the opennings in brick and made them look SO MUCH betterI hope that when it re-opens it isn't a "free expression" tunnel anymoreit was SUCH an eyesore/sketchy place on campusit made our campus look EVEN worse
1/19/2006 11:09:32 PM
^thats the kind of attitude that makes our campus actually look so sanitary and plain.[Edited on January 20, 2006 at 1:10 PM. Reason : f]
1/20/2006 1:10:11 PM
^damn right!
1/20/2006 1:56:42 PM
i never really used it anyhow
1/21/2006 11:16:12 AM
the free expression tunnel is one of the best "traditions" at State...plz gtfo if you think people shouldn't be able to paint there anymore
1/21/2006 11:38:29 AM
well I wouldn't worry about it, because faculty would never knowingly ruin a tradition of ours...oh wait
1/23/2006 7:19:54 AM
1/24/2006 2:22:38 PM
i used it for hanging an oversized poster of my friend's ass on april fool's daythat was my free expression
1/24/2006 5:08:25 PM
Me and Snewf painted a Dylan Thomas poem all the way across it one night.... I hate that it's gone, it was really nice.
1/25/2006 1:09:11 AM
holy shit, they killed the Free Expression Tunnel too?bunch of locker room faggots...i swear, leave it to NCSU to fuck something up.
1/25/2006 10:35:23 PM
I miss it too. we only had a bridge at UVa. The tunnel had soooo much more room to paint. Really nice that the paint could dry and the message stay up a few days rather than having to guard it to prevent other groups from painting over it (our bridge was waaay too small, but good). the other tunnel gets to crowded- like a stampede at times.
1/25/2006 10:54:53 PM
i always wanted to get a watergun, fill it with paint thinner, and see how thick that paint really was
1/25/2006 11:14:49 PM
I miss not having to walk forever just so I can get from my PE class to Harrelson.
1/26/2006 12:25:49 PM
My first thought was "Where'd it go?" I liked the creativity, but I was always a little skurred under it... but I was skurred under the Dan Allen overpass too.
1/26/2006 3:25:10 PM
Apparently it needs to be restated that the tunnel has not been destroyed, but is being rebuilt to accomodate handicapped students/visitors. There will be cosmetic improvements, but it will still be the Free Expression Tunnel. In its place, while they're working on it, is a plywood wall in between Alexander and Owen (or whatever) that people can paint on.Don't get your panties in wads, people.
