Has anybody taken one of the cruises/trips they advertise for college students (like the ones in the flyer today in the Technician?) If so, any recommendations or comments?

i took a cruise to bahamas with my gf last year. it was pretty ghetto, and the hotel we stayed at was flooded with frat boys, so don't expect to get the best R&R. also the food options were pretty bad, and anywhere you went near the hotel was jam packed with kids that were on the same trip as you.the ocean was beautiful there though, although it was too cold to really enjoy at the time.but if you want to do a pseudo-mtv spring break trip, this is your ticket.

a couple of my girl friends took one their senior year. They did the cruise to an island, stay for a couple days, and cruise back. They said the 'cruise boat' was not a cruise boat, just a large boat. The rooms were what you would expect for the cheap ass vacation. They said there was more alcohol than you could drink and guys/girls everywhere.so i think if you don't set your expectations too high, you would probably have a good time.

I went on a cruise out of Charleston. It was very nice and the food was great. We went to Caymans, Key West, Cozumel. They had a wine and cheese happy hour every night. Wine and Sparkling wine was $3.Everything on a cruise costs. If there is anything they can stick you with, they will. We thought we could get off cheap and play bingo for a few hours. You had to play a minimum 8 cards to play ($40).Only problem was annoying college kids saving 30 lounge chairs for hours on end. It would be 7 30 and the chairs would be "reserved" but not used till 10.

my best friend and I ended up waiting until the very last minute before the week of spring break last year but turns out we scored pretty big. I think we booked like a week (or maybe less) in advance and got a great deal. We got a Royal Carribean cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale, 6 days/7nights, we went to Ocho Rios Jamaica and the Grand Caymans and the whole trip cost us ~$650 which included everything (450 for the cruise and about 200 for all excursions, casino, alcohol and stuff on the islands) if you are interested in the wedsite in which we booked from let me know, i think i might still have it.

she/we were curious about those ads that're always in the back of the technician. you know, "hot hot hot travel dealz!!!! student travel discounts!!!! flights to the moon only $300!!!" Those kinds of shit. We're wondering if its just the sweaty/daterape MTV springbreak (wooo lets meet the Real World cast ) or if any of em are more laid back. i personally dont wanna end up like that dude in the mediterranean, and she doesn't wanna be natalee holloway

If you are looking to actually enjoy a cruise, don't go during spring break ... they are half-price in September for the exact same trips. Also make sure you guys have Passports ... they aren't 100% required yet but it makes the whole process a LOT easier. And if you do want passports, make an appointment soon ... they are getting booked for others who need them for spring break.
