Schaeffer is holding a Press Conference on Friday at his junior collge in California.

He will choose between NC STATE and OLE MISS.

We were his leader heading into his recent official visit with Ole Miss, and now they have "made up ground".

Personally, I like our chances but he does like the thought of playing in the SEC and getting a shot at TENN. But Ole Miss sucks and I don't think Schaeffer would have us as a finalist after the 2-3 years we have spent with him.

They haven't contacted him, per his coach.

Texas and VT were wanting to get into the race, but it's too late.

Between Ole Miss and NC State.

^wrong

as the packpride article states, his recruiter at VT left(QB coach i believe), i think they might of been his choice before that happened

If Texas contacts him and offers, he will say yes in a New York minute...no mater how late it comes

If I was a quarterback with skillz I would put VT on my list after Vick got booted... he would sorta be an upgrade from Marcus in my opinion.... but since I have never seen Schaeffer play and only witnessed Vick in person once, what the hell do I know!

Who will get the number one junior college quarterback coming signing day? It's down to two schools with Ole Miss being one of the finalists for his services.

Brent Schaeffer says he'll announce Friday
In an exclusive interview with Brent Schaeffer Monday afternoon, Schaeffer said Ole Miss made up major ground with his official visit and he has narrowed his choices to two schools.

"It's going to be between Ole Miss and North Carolina State," Schaeffer said from College of Sequoia Monday afternoon. "I had a great visit, much better than I ever expected. Ole Miss made up major ground in this battle. Right now its neck in neck with those two."

According to COS offensive coordinator Andy Siegal, thes school will hold a press conference Friday afternoon to announce Schaeffer's decision.

"Right now we aren't sure the exact time but we will have a press conference here to announce the winner of Brent's services," Siegal said Monday. "I know that the entire Ole Miss coaching staff is on its way out here on Wednesday. I will have to take down everything that is breakable, with Coach (Ed) Orgeron, Art Kehoe and myself in the same office it will definitely be intense."

Siegal said Ole Miss definitely made up a lot of room in Schaeffer's recruitment.

"I didn't think they had much ground to make up," Siegal said Monday. "I can tell you this though, they made up a lot, I mean a lot of ground with (Brent's) visit this weekend."

Schaeffer said the meetings went great with the new offensive coaches at Ole Miss.

"I really enjoyed meeting Coach (Dan) Werner, growing up in South Florida everyone is familiar with him and the Miami offense," Schaeffer said. "The pro style offense he is going to run is the exact offense I need to excel at the next level."

Schaeffer admits he had a lot of questions heading into his trip to Oxford, but after the visit, all questions have been answered.

"I love the small town atmosphere," Schaeffer commented. "Everyone is so friendly and so supportive of the program even though it hasn't had much success lately. I like that they are supportive even when things are down, I bet they are great when things are going good."

Schaeffer is well aware of Rebel fans are looking forward to him leading them to success as former Rebel quarterbacks Eli Manning.

"Those are big shoes to fill," Schaeffer said. "Eli is a great quarterback that had great success there. I would love to lead Ole Miss to the success he did, I wouldn't mind following him to his success in the draft either. I'm not Eli, I'm Brent, but I can see myself leading them back to championship form."

Schaeffer was also convinced of Orgeron's commitment to building Ole Miss to the next level.

"It's apparent he has a plan to build a championship team in Oxford," Schaeffer said. "It's more than evident how much they want me at Ole Miss."

Schaeffer said some of the factors in his decision-making process will be where he feels most comfortable.

"I'm very impressed with the prospects that Orgeron is bringing to Oxford," Schaeffer said. "I loved hanging out with the guys, getting to know them and see what Ole Miss was all about."

Schaeffer also made it clear that he has not been contacted by Virginia Tech or the University of Texas, although he has heard they are interested.

"Right now they have not contacted me and I don't plan on taking anymore visits," Schaeffer said. "It's down to two."

recruiting is such bullshit. Fags like Schaeffer get their heads all swollen up and toy with schools for months. Recruiters who can such the dicks of these little HS shits are obviously not human. I would have told any dumbass kid who had strung me along for months to fuck off.

Ole Miss doesn't have Tennessee on their schedule for another 2 years.

Also, I heard somewhere we have Tennessee scheduled in '07.

I agree, I wouldnt be able to do it either.

However, if we go into the next two seasons with Marcus Stone starting at QB our entire coaching staff has a good chance of getting fired.

They are doing whatever they can to get a QB who might actually be able to win a few games the next two years so they dont lose their jobs...

We also have Justin Burke coming in who looks very good...its high school but you can't get much worse than stone.

yeah but the chances of a true freshman thats like a 3-star QB starting are pretty slim...

he doesnt have the benefit of enrolling early like Rivers

We all know Stone blows but i dont think they want to risk Burke's career by throwing him in the fire if he's not ready

Let's face it. If Schaeffer isnt the starter, we're probably 2-6 in the conference at best...

and even with Schaeffer I'd say 3-5 is the best case scenario.

I'm gonna guess Shaeffer to NC State.

He did this to us 2 years ago. No way he has the balls to do it to Chuck again.

why would it take balls to go somewhere else? Is he going to have to see CHuck everyday and keep his head hung low as he passes him? He's a top prospect trying to get all he can out of a university, he's not going to come here based on guilt.

id bet we'd finish better than 3-5 with BS...the best part of him coming here would be the press and the fact that burke could have two years to learn and start as a redshirt soph.

I just have a hard time believing he'd string us along, again, and break our hearts in the end, again. No way he'd have the balls to do that to us twice.

I'm pretty pessimistic about the team next year, but a good, mobile QB would have more of an impact than just 1 win for us. Schaeffer would likely be a huge upgrade over Stone/Burke/whoever, an might enable our team to win some shootouts that we have no business winning.

Its time for our offense to bounce back from the last 2 shitty years. A QB like Shaeffer who can scramble and avoid the pass-rush might be just the thing we need.

why is everyone so pessimistic about next year's team esp. if we get Schaeffer? He could be the type of QB that could negate some of our terrible o-line play (which should be better next year anyway) b/c of his escapability and we return all of our good RB's and some good WR's

On defense, we do lose a lot obviously. But we have pretty good depth along the defensive front with some young guys like willie young who were highly recruited out of high school and we return pressley and tank tyler. the secondary stays in tact minus hudson and they will all have another year of experience. linebacker will be the main weak spot and i don't know about the young guys we have there.

But if we get schaeffer i think we can expect at least another six or seven win season and maybe more depending on the impact that he can have.

don't fall into the trap of perpetually deluding yourself into actually thinking we will be good every year. it only leads to being let down.

with all the playmakers we had this year and the mediocre results they yielded, i would be astounded if we managed to reach 7 wins without them.

We'll be a lot better at LB than we will at DE

Willie Young won't even start IMO.. still too small.

Ray Brooks will help (if he makes it), but teams are just going to run right at the other side of the field. I think Littleton Wright is gonna start weakside, and I know nothing about the guy. Lets hope he's halfway decent or we're gonna hurt

cool...i just knew he was recruited highly out of high school....Wright was the other guy I was trying to think of and he was also decently sought after

Who do we have for help at LB after losing Hoyte and Tulloch? I haven't looked at it enough to know

And if Schaeffer does commit he is the type of QB that can WIN a team games, not just not lose them...i think most of us have forgotten what that was like since Rivers left but w/ him and a respectable run game there is no reason why we can't have large improvements on offense and it will be Trestman's second year and hopefully he will be more comfortable as well

WRONG: we lost all our main receiving threats from last year: Clark, Tramain, Williams, Hicks. The only significant receivers returning are Lamart and A. Hill (who is more of a blocking TE anyway).

Wright is a DE for starters, in fact he was the TOP juco DE in the country when he committed to NCSU.

owen spencer 6'4 - fr
kyle newell 6'6 - redshirt fr
anthony hill - tall TE
octavious darby - tall TE

We will have some big targets to throw the ball too next year... so yea, we need Brent Schaeffer.

Tall doesn't mean everything. Look at Steve Smith, he is about 5' 8". Or Santana Moss, heck our best receiver on this year's team, Tramain Hall.

It doesn't mean everything.... but it sure as hell is easier to catch a pass if you're 6'4" compared to 5' 9".

Smith and Moss are badasses, but they're actually a rare breed. Give me a 6'5" any day. What you miss in speed (usually) you make up for in height advantage.

[Edited on January 17, 2006 at 3:33 PM. Reason : P.S. Phishbfm can back me up. Geron James is supposedly a badass... next NCSU "breakout" receiver]

haha....yeah but you know how Chuck likes to make people play what they "look like" they should play.

I always figure the way chuck plays it...if the guy has any defenisve experience, he's gonna play D.

But in all seriousness, I like what we're looking at next year with receivers...getting some height on the field. Last year we had the speed in BC and Tramain, but I Stone couldnt find them usually. Maybe this will work out better for us, even if BS fucks us.
