I'm lookin to build a new system and am looking for some decently quiet fans. The quietest things I can find are some lighted fans. I really don't want the damn lights. Is there a way to disable them, or am I stuck with that stupid shit?also, will the lights affect a variable speed fan controller that I have?

just clip the LED wiresor unsolder them or bypass them or don't plug a wire in or etc. - depends on how it's made[Edited on January 13, 2006 at 10:21 PM. Reason : speed controller should still work]

I have the Thermaltake LED speed speed adjustable fan.....I don't like the LEDs either, but it doesn't really bother me since it is in the case and I can't really see it.I would say leave it alone unless you really are bothered by it.By the way the 3 speed settings are great, especially if you like it quiet during normal use and you can crank it up during gameplay.

if you clip the led's, i'll take them

i've got the thermaltake adjustable fans, too, but in order to get them not to be loud as fuck, I have to massively decrease the fanspeed, which kills the whole point of the damn fan

any airflow is better than none at all - convective heat transfer, yo

What size fans do you have? I have a 90ish nm fan, and it doesn't have to spin very fast to generate good airflow. If you look at the cfm charts I believe you will see that the larger fans generate more airflow at lower rpms.....which should equal less noise
