words just spoken by my roommate, guitarguy. i'm trying to tell him, but he just isnt listening. cameron WISHES its as rowdy as reynolds was. just help me let him know whats upand i totally fucked up the title, it should be Reynolds, not Reynold's[Edited on January 11, 2006 at 9:39 PM. Half of the "Cameron Crazies" cheers are ripoffs of the Reynolds Rowdies. The Rowdies were much more original and louder....plus we had the "patented" crowd noise meter. Beat that
1/11/2006 9:43:30 PM
Well my dad could sure tell you Reynolds was worse. guitarguy should have been alive in the 70s then from what I hear.
1/11/2006 9:44:15 PM
crazies are louder but the difference is theyre pg13[Edited on January 11, 2006 at 9:44 PM. Reason : d]
1/11/2006 9:44:28 PM
he also has only lived here for like 10 years, so he has a lot left to learn, ha
1/11/2006 9:51:33 PM
Cameron is crazier but reynolds was rowdier.in all seriousness, reynolds used to get loud as FUCK. i'm glad i was a student while we still played there.[Edited on January 11, 2006 at 9:55 PM. Reason : ]
1/11/2006 9:55:21 PM
what i said was, all time places to play at anytime in history, 2005 or 1903, that cameron could possibly beat reynolds depending on who you ask obviously. im pretty sure thegoodlife3 wasnt alive in the 70s so he wouldnt personally know.
1/11/2006 10:04:01 PM
Cameron "Crazies".... much like the entire UNC-Duke rivalry, is a hype product of ESPN. I'm not saying the schools don't traditionally hate each other, but ESPN took it overboard and before K got to Duke they rarely knew each other existed. Same with the "Crazies". Had ESPN been around for Reynolds, we'd have been more hyped than them. They're world renowned becuase of the ESPN hype machine and there's nothing like them any where else in the country. If we stayed in Reynolds and remained a dynasty, we'd make the Cameron Crazies look like Sesame Street. Drunk Rednecks are a lot louder than drunk pricks from New JerseyAnd FWIW, in the ACC's 50th anniversary team (Where Thompson got the unanimous #1 player in ACC history)...they also rated the ACC's all time basketball venues. I think there were like 60 voters.... Reynolds got all but like 13 first place votes... and was labeled #1 as well[Edited on January 11, 2006 at 10:07 PM. Reason : ]

im pretty sure i wasnt alive in the 70's, but i have a lot of family members who attended games back then at both arenas who arent fans of either school who all agree reynolds was crazier.
1/11/2006 10:06:10 PM
dukes modern dynasty at cameron vs. reynolds and ncsu back (even though may not know much about it), itd be hard for me to say that it isnt hard place to play. find a list of all time places and their respective years and show me that reynolds was EVER at the top of any list.
1/11/2006 10:07:17 PM
^ Read my post above. I looked for a link... couldn't find it. Reynolds was labeled the #1 venue in ACC history, Cameron #2 ,Cole Field house #3, and Carmichael Arena #4 (UNC)It was voted on by former coaches, players, commentators, and athletic directors of the ACC[Edited on January 11, 2006 at 10:10 PM. well of course people who either don't have a memory of Reynold or even know it was one of the most rowdy places in college basketball are going say that Cameron is louder because its whats current and most memorable right now. There have been several players for years past and coaches that have admited that Reynolds was one of the toughest places to play. I too am glad I had a chance to be a student during the final years at Reynolds
1/11/2006 10:10:04 PM
based upon what? crowd noise? the teams? again i didnt say compare ncsu vs. duke back then. duke right now today vs. reynolds back then...i said itd depend who you ask. opinions. we're gonna lose to them too.
1/11/2006 10:11:27 PM
^ Dunno. I would imagine its a combo of history, intimidation, and loudness/tough to win/etc (Which is intimidation)
1/11/2006 10:12:35 PM
we're talking about the 70's at reynolds here, not the 90s so anyone who went to ncsu during the last years of reynolds doesnt count according to thegoodlife3.
1/11/2006 10:15:04 PM
you lose.
1/11/2006 10:26:03 PM
well we all know the ACC tourny changed when they left Raleigh (ie Reynolds)...so just that alone I'd say Reynolds back then is more rowdy/crazy than Duke nowgranted that was long before the 70s...but you get the idea.[Edited on January 11, 2006 at 10:34 PM. Reason : ]

A friend of mine worked at a private aiprort back in school and got to talk to a lot of basketball coaches. On in particular (I wanna say it was Dave Odom) said that despite all the publicity Cameron gets that never in his life has he seen a fan base as rabid and intimidating as Reynolds back in the day. There were times he was actually worried for his safety and had to look over his shoulder to see who said what. While Duke has all these great coordinated chants and such, he said the ferocity of the insults and incessant screaming from the student section was overwhelming. Cameron is like an enthusiastic cheerleader with a megaphone in your ear, but Reynolds was like drunken lynch mob looking for a child's killer.
1/11/2006 10:37:35 PM
I wouldn't be surprised if it was Odom. Odom worked his hardest to try to get the Wake vs. State game to be the last game ever in Reynolds instead though there some non conference home game we had.[Edited on January 11, 2006 at 10:44 PM. Reason : .]
1/11/2006 10:41:15 PM
some folks need to read four corners. back in the day, it was ridiculous in reynolds
1/11/2006 10:43:28 PM
Reynolds would get much louder. Remember, the same guy designed both gyms. However, we added on seats in the 70's I believe. If you went to the App state game this year, did you see how the floor sort of shook when the crowd got hyped and started jumping. Imagine the place packed with a bunch of rednecks stomping on the floor as hard as they can and yelling. Also, State had like a 75% winning percentage in Reynolds though decades of games. Duke had the same arena as us but didn't have near that until the past 10 years or so.
1/11/2006 10:51:26 PM
last year on ESPN during a halftime of some game they were talking about the craziest places to play, jay bilas and digger phelps said reynolds was the loudest, most insane, and toughest place they ever played or coached in.
1/11/2006 10:52:11 PM
Reynolds also had the highest attendance for a loooooooooooong time. It was also one of the biggest arenas for a while. Some rich guy needs to come and make them play a real acc game in there once a year or so. It would be so sweet for the UNC or Duke game to be played there[Edited on January 11, 2006 at 10:56 PM. Reason : dfsd]
1/11/2006 10:55:38 PM
That'd be awesome. Reynolds is a hell of a better home-court advantage. And they could probably jack up the ticket prices as well, so they wouldn't even be losing that much money.
1/11/2006 11:06:50 PM
Reynolds and Cameron are built from the same blueprint. The differences are as such:- Reynolds is 80-odd feet longer and has nearly 3,000 more seats.- The balcony setup of Reynolds (overhangs) helps to create more surfaces for the noise to bounce off, and keeps some of the lower level noise down low. Cameron has a balcony, but no overhangs.- Reynolds has ice-freezing pipes in the floor .- Reynolds had the first noise meter for good reason.Coupling those differences with our '70s dominance and the makeup of our student base, along with the opinions of players and coaches from that era, there's no way in hell Cameron can compete at any point in its history.
1/12/2006 12:51:30 AM
the problem you guys are missing here is that cameron still exists to this day and there is no such thing as the RBC crazies....thus cameron's crazies win....the days of reynolds are long gone and as state fans we need to quit living in the past. we need to try to build an environment at the RBC center considering it holds ~8000 more fans...it is sad
1/12/2006 3:16:52 AM
The game in Reynolds is the one I look forward to most each year.
1/12/2006 5:04:42 AM
^^there is no way that the ESA could EVER be as loud as reynolds. it's just too big to have that nice reverberating echo that reynolds did.also, they've done gone and fucked up reynolds. what with the new bleachers in the endzones (whatever they are called in basketball) and everything.
1/12/2006 7:57:44 AM
My girl's dad played on the teams in the early 70's (72, 73, 74) and said there was nothing like playing in Reynolds. It was absolutely nuts the entire time.I went to a game when I was 4 or 5, can't remember who we played, but I remember being scared.
1/12/2006 8:20:25 AM
1/12/2006 8:30:32 AM
The Wake game last year when Hodge got punched was the loudest I'd ever heard any arena. It genuinely felt like the place was going to blow.
1/12/2006 9:26:20 AM
my cousin is the biggest duke fan ever but he went to state for his masters and duke for his undergrad and phd. he even admits that reynolds was a more intimidating place to play back in the day, although its kind of hard to find anything to compare to cameron today
1/12/2006 9:31:58 AM
Oh jesus fucking christ.Get over our past already. Its been 15 fucking years man.People get over divorces and breakups and deaths and shit faster.
1/12/2006 9:32:21 AM
both my parents went to UNC back in the 70's and they both agree that Reynolds was 3 times louder than CameronLONG LIVE REYNOLDS!!!!
1/12/2006 9:58:17 AM
thats still not what i said originally. I SAID AT ANY TIME IN HISTORY, REYNOLDS IN 70S MIGHT NOT BE HARDER PLACE TO PLAY THEN CAMERON HAS BEEN NOW FOR DUKE.
1/12/2006 10:20:07 AM
overwhelming consensus is that reynolds beats cameron no matter what era
1/12/2006 1:09:31 PM
theoretically speaking, can we have a bonfire if we beat duke?
1/12/2006 1:16:06 PM
seriously, even Reynolds in the late-90s was a crazier atmosphere than Cameron...I've seen Carolina players jump on the scorer's table after a game and flick off the crowd. It was answered with a soda shower...I personally witnessed Gary Williams flick off the student section and yell "That's 5, fuck you!"? (Consequently we got him fined for it because it was caught on TV). We had 2 state troopers between us and Maryland because Gary accused us of flicking pennies at him (one of the guys in our section said he was really flicking chips of ice).Unfortunately, RBC center will never have that intimidation because we pussed out and put the SWPC behind the other teams bench. If they gave out those tickets in a campout, and you'll see the place change quite a bit. The SWPC members are too worried about losing their ticket rights than to really get in the other teams face.
1/12/2006 1:19:06 PM
The security over behind the opposing team's bench tones everything down. It's not just the SWPC members worried over thier tickets.

i would glady pay more to see an acc game played in reynolds, and im sure 95% of the fans would be too

1/12/2006 5:05:48 PM
1/12/2006 5:06:12 PM
i've been saying it since i've gotton here...all games before conference play begins need to be played in reynolds
1/12/2006 5:11:31 PM
1/12/2006 5:16:53 PM
Opposing players used to get spat on at Reynolds.
1/12/2006 5:21:05 PM

I was in the SWPC, sitting behind the bench and got Penn State's coach to yell at me.I also got the Virginia state trooper to tell me to shut-up because I was giving Majestic Map hell for his mom naming him that. Apparently his mom died (or that's what the State tropper said).
1/12/2006 5:22:37 PM
I was in the SWPC section behind the Wake bench during the "I killed your grandfather" chant towards Chris Paul. I'm almost positive the members that started it got warnings, if not something more severe.
1/12/2006 11:14:14 PM
Just another example of the SWPC being the antithesis of what they claim to be,
