"If its cold the Bears win...if its not too cold the Panthers win"what a load of crap...hey where did rex grossman play college ball? it must be an artic tundra down in Gainesville...or Urlacher...yeah boy those University of New Mexico players sure are used to the snow giving Chicago an advantage...Nick Goings at Penn State...boy its pretty muggy in Pennsylvania during football season...Steve Smith and Jordan Gross played at Utah...gosh thats like 120 degree days all the timedont buy into this cold weather crap...or if you do, maybe the Bears should hope for some good weather since the Superbowl is played indoors

The Panthers have been going to a restaurant in Charlotte and hanging out in the meat freezer for 30 minutes everyday this week... fyi

Its in the statistics. http://www.footballoutsiders.com/ramblings.php?p=98&cat=1

i agree with your point there TreeTwista10 but i must say from the perspective of someone who has lived in new mexico that it does get quite cold in albuquerque and yes it even snowsthat said, go panthers

Looks like the original poster got owned pretty hard.Your paragraph about where players used to play (warm climates) versus where they play now is stupid. The point is if you aren't used to it you don't perform as well. My dad is a jew and keeps the heat low as hell. When I first got home on break I was always bundled up in may layers because I was so cold. By the end I was back to the normal shorts and tshirt around the house. I get back to the apt, put the heat back where it usually is, and think it is hot as hell. Of course I am slowly moving back to my preferred warmer temp setting, but it takes getting used to.Don't be so dumb, it is hard for you to claim any experience when for you it is limited to the internet and xboxing and nothing related to actually playing outdoors.[Edited on January 11, 2006 at 5:21 PM. 1/11/2006 5:23:55 PM
1st of all, its not gonna be cold this weekend, at least by non-pussy standards2nd...tell the falcons, it doesnt matter if its cold3rd..regardless of where dudes went to school, they live and practice in chicago and become accustomed to the conditions...its not rocket science
1/11/2006 5:28:59 PM
1/11/2006 5:31:34 PM
I heard the Eagles were gonna own us in the NFC Championship game a couple years ago since we werent used to the cold
1/11/2006 8:13:14 PM
OMG 1 game! THATS ALL THE PROOF I NEED!Jesus dude, you couldn't be more wrong on this one.
1/11/2006 8:17:35 PM
its called acclimation folks, even if you take a month off from a certain kind of weather you have to get reacclimated to it when you resume
1/11/2006 8:18:47 PM
^^you couldnt be more wrong...you think pro football players are little pussies like you? that a little cold weather is gonna fuck them up?btw its not OMG 1 game! its 64 games according to that "article" that msb posted...cant believe he called it a study...just some gambling junkie saying the road team loses 69% of the time...that doesnt mean shitdo a "study" of teams that have home games in cold climates and play road games in warm/mild climates...the home team is gonna win >50% of the time regardless]
1/11/2006 8:23:02 PM
whatever, 47 degrees is just about perfect for playing football, so the talking heads better think of something else
1/11/2006 8:23:31 PM
it doesnt matter, the high should be 40-42 on sunday in chicago anyway, which is quite warmnot sure on the wind, but its usually a mess on that section of the lake
1/11/2006 8:23:33 PM
treetwista is so incredibly wrong its comicalBUT THIS WILL NOT APPLY TO ANY GAMES BEING PLAYED THIS WEEKEND SO WHO CARES
1/11/2006 8:25:05 PM
hey how bout them giantshow am i so wrong? because in the article msb posted the warm team playing at the cold stadium loses 69% of the time? they're the fucking road team...home teams win more wherever they play...all you morons buying into this crapplus that "study" includes the panthers 1-15 record, for example...you can manipulate numbers any way you want...but you've gotta be an idiot to think these pro athletes cant handle the cold
1/11/2006 8:27:40 PM
i didnt read the articlei dont have to, its just not that fucking hard to comprehendif you arent used to playing in temps below freezing (which significantly alter passing games and possession) you are at a disadvantage compared to a team that isITS NOT THAT FUCKING COMPLICATED
1/11/2006 8:29:34 PM
theres no correlationbtw the warm climate panthers won at the cold climate giants last weekand dont give me that "it wasnt that cold" crap either...the "study" doesnt factor that in...shits biased as can bewouldnt expect phishnlou to agree though...he's still crying to mama about the giants' pitiful performance last weekThe better team usually wins the game wherever its played
1/11/2006 8:31:13 PM
I can't believe how stupid you are. Honestly. Its almost unfathomable that you could be this dumb. Its not about whether the players can "handle" the cold. Its about how their style of play works better in that weather. You think its a fucking coincidence that the 2 cold-weather teams play defensive, ball-control football? Are you a downy?
1/11/2006 8:32:16 PM
1/11/2006 8:33:33 PM
1/11/2006 8:34:29 PM
Until 2 years ago I believe, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had NEVER won a game in sub-freezing weather. Another "coincidence".
1/11/2006 8:36:10 PM
^^^read the study or shut up cause you dont know shit anyway^^^^like the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles who primarily pass the ball?i guess none of you fucking morons bothered to click the link that msb posted where a good 40 or 50 people asked for clarification of things...like how a number of the warm weather teams werent good in general in that time frame...and how actual temperatures are not factored in AT ALL...they simple say "teams...considered to play their home games either in a warm or mild climate or indoors"...and playing on the road against teams that are "considered to play their home games in a colder climate"arguing on the internet in your heated apartments just because you're too much of a pussy to even go outside in 50 degree weatherGreen Bay and Philly throw the ballTampa and Carolina run the ballstupid stupid stupid idiots]
1/11/2006 8:37:05 PM
green bay and philiadelphia are not in the playoffsmaybe they should have been more balanced
1/11/2006 8:39:25 PM
1/11/2006 8:40:09 PM
^^are they or are they not cold weather teams that predominantly throwand how bout the bucs and panthers...their preferred M.O. is to run before they pass and they are in predominantly warm climates...oh shit i thought yall said teams in the cold run and teams in the warm passyou see, while i debate the article and your excuses, you guys just say im dumb...boy you all sure are making good arguments with substanceplenty of people live in different climates in the off season
1/11/2006 8:40:31 PM
i mean its hardly relevant that the bucs like to run the footballwhat does that have to do with anythingits not like you can only run the football if you play in a cold climate
1/11/2006 8:42:55 PM
so how about the packers and eagles? is that not relevant?or the fact that THE HOME TEAM USUALLY WINS...it doesnt make sense to you that the warm away team would usually lose at the cold home team's place because the road team usually loses anyway?
1/11/2006 8:44:30 PM
to look at tampa bay for exampleim sure in that stretch of decades, they beat some people on the roadid even venture to say their winning % was above 0%but its not about stupid surveys and stats...its about using YOUR OWN brain. acclimation is not some sort of mythical concept
1/11/2006 8:46:43 PM
if you REALLY wanted to use your brain you'd know that the team that lines up, moves the ball, and tackles wins the game...or you can blame weather like a moronor maybe you could actually read the study and see the flaws in it
1/11/2006 8:48:03 PM
i dont need to read the studyi dont care what the study saysthe study doesnt matterits just not that complicated
1/11/2006 9:06:04 PM
the only thing weather is going to affect is run/pass ratio and effectiveness...home field advantage is the reason the home team wins most of the time regardless of the weather...i cant word it any more clearlynobody gets acclimated to -10 degree weather in short sleeves when they have HVAC and live in America
1/11/2006 11:33:49 PM
so uh...anybody wanna post in this thread or would that be too embarassing for you? after all, msb said Its in the statistics!
1/16/2006 12:55:08 PM
i think the weather may play some into it, but it isn't the only reason. Like it could be the cause for a missed kick (icy or slippery ground) or an interception or a fumble (wet slippery ball), all things that could potentially change the game. And that article makes it sound like those teams play in the cold the majority of the time. I don't know the exact numbers, but i would imagine a good portion of those northern teams practice at an indoor facility. So that is 1 out of 6 days a week that they are playing in that weather (assuming they have 1 day off or 1 day where they don't physically practice). And even then, they don't play at home every week, and it isn't cold every week. That "study" is just horrible proof. Doesn't take into account it being cold during that time, or absolutely shitty teams that lose to everyone. At the very least they need some other data to compare it to. Maybe the home team winning % of the cold weather teams against each other during that time.
