Pledge dues are usually around $75 and Brother dues around $80 in the fall and $50 in the spring (but there are other cheaper options as well, as well as payment plans that let you pay in installments throughout the semester). We're not in a council currently, but I'm looking into the Collaborative Greek Council, which fosters diversity and probably fits us the best.

Oh, and pledge dues pay for all the supplies you'd need as well, so you wouldn't have to worry about paying anything extra for your paddle, pin, etc.

Now, now, we don't need to get into bickering here, but I will say that Mu Beta Psi is not your typical "frat." We are co-ed, and geared entirely to music, service, and fellowship with other musicians.

Check out our website, http://alpha.mubetapsi.org to find out more!

We're going on our annual Brothers' retreat this weekend at a beach house near Cape Hatteras, so there may not be many around to answer questions until sometime Monday.

because i REALLY hate rocky horror

fat people running around in their underwear and throwing shit on each other doesn't seem like a good time. the smell must be like a vietnamese deathcamp.

I think those are more like get to know you events rather than required events. certainly no one would have to do anything that made them feel uncomfortable in a rush event.

"We are co-ed, and geared entirely to music, service, and fellowship with other musicians. "

The commitment to music can simply be appreciation. Many of the members are musicians, but not all. A love of service and brotherhood are also main points of the fraternity. For example I don't play an instrument or sing well at all. Our commitment to service means we have a behind the scene hand in a lot of the music events on campus.

Granted some of the stuff might seem a little silly like dragfest, but we raised alot of money for charity.

But its not just buying friends (and if was its at a good discount since most fraternities charge alot more), we do serious stuff together too.

And have fun... most of the brothers are on a beach retreat right now for example.

Remember events start tuesday, with free food!

The concept just seems to so strongly go aginst nature. Does service and music have any particular correlation? Why would a music group organize in a fraternity? Not only does it seem to go aginst what I would sterotype of a music person, but a fraternity isn't at all suited to organize people with a common interest like music, imoh. It can't exist as a nearly inactive honors/professional type thing when we don't even have a music major here, and social/service fraternities are organized on principals like helping humanity, developing character, and the like, not... music.

We have our hand in making alot of music events possible... there would be alot less music on campus without service.

Not everyone fits into stereotypes. I for example have never had a music class and can't play instruments or sing.

Over in the old school section people are unhappy that nobody remembers the songs that used to get people excited, no one remembers the traditions ect. Music is tied into school spirit and sports in alot of ways. Mu Beta Psi remembers them, since we were founded at NCSU 80 years ago by Percy Price (same one the Price Music Center is named for). I think we are looking at restarting some traditions. I think music can be tied to spirit and character in alot of ways, even though I'm no musician, and anyone who can enjoy music or sing the fight song would fit right in with us.

music in stewart, ballroom, working with all different choral & a capella groups, working with our band for sporting events ect…

and before you think its all classic music, or sporting event music, or a capella/choral music, we also do a fund raiser MusicFEST every year.

Heres the line up from musicfest from a year or two ago I think (found it in an earlier tdub thread.

Brooks Wood - Solo vocal performance with guitar
Dread34 - 8 piece band with reggae, ska, rock, funk and jazz influences
Erin Anderson - Guitar performance along with a drummer
Firenze (exhibition, not competing)
Jazz Combo - 4 piece jazz ensemble with vocalist
The Saxpack (exhibition, not competing)

and maybe a few more will playing"

Maybe you just haven't been looking in the right places. Go into Price music center, and you will see calendars for all the Music Department's events, as well as fliers for traditional irish music jam sessions (I'm sure you'll make fun of that one), drum circles, guitar groups, groups looking for more members, etc. As well, Center Stage and other parts of ARTS NC State work hard to bring a lot of musical events to our campus, all you need to do is look through brochures in Talley to see that.

We really don't fit into any stereotype, as we have a very diverse group of people.

And why can't a fraternity organize a group of people with a common interest, like music? Isn't that what fraternities (social, service, and otherwise) do? And just because we're centered around music, that doesn't mean we aren't also focused on helping humanity, developing character, etc., as those are definitely very important components of being an active Brother in our fraternity.

Quote :

It's existed for 80 years without a major, and we are certainly NOT inactive. We have a LOT of service events for the music department every year, from feeding the marching band ice cream after a hot and humid practice to setting up the chairs, stands, and percussion equipment of a Raleigh Civic Symphony concert. As well, we provide the bulk of the judges and volunteers for the Sounds of Music competition during both state and regional Science Olympiads. I would hardly call that inactive.

P.S. Bowling tonight FREE FOR RUSHEES. Be at Price Music Center at 6:30 to walk over with the Brothers, or meet us at Western Lanes around 7pmish.
