I had Dr. Grant last semester. Though the numeration of 150 can be misleading. It is taught more at a 400 level science course. I got an A, but I put serious effort. The lab is very strenuous. But I heard Dr. Heatwole is rough. Look at his grade distribution in his classes. Majority I figure they did bad is that they assumed this course to be a 100 level regular science course, but it isn't. Study everyday, that helps! The lab may or may not be too picky on drawings. There were 2 practicals.Anyways, Good luck! [Edited on January 10, 2006 at 4:00 AM. Reason : -]

heatwole is very tough. he is extremely smart and an awesome person outside of class, but zo150 is a weeding out course. he doesn't believe in multiple choice. in order to do well in the course u have to really enjoy classification and basically knowing everything there is about all the various phyla, etc. lab is really cool. as far as professors go, his difficulty is by far a lot tougher than any alternative, but u actually do learn the material (and if you enjoy the subject matter, that is the sort of prof u want). i LOVED the material and was only able to pull out with an A-. just keep up with it and don't fall behind

His syllabus stresses the fact that his lecture notes are only an OUTLINE of what you should know and that you should read the text every night. Do i reaaaally need to read the text or will i be fine if i just study his lecture notes?

let's put it this way... when i had him in spring 2002...test #3 on our first exam:"list the following events/organisms in order of existance/appearance on earth"(it started at the hardening of the earth's volcanic surface, and went all the way through living sponges.)that being said... despite the fact that i dropped it and ended up taking it with Mosley, Heatwole is a very interesting, brilliant man. but he will do all he can to make you bust your ass for a passing grade.

He is hard, but at least he is nice about it.
