looking into maybe getting the 300... but wanted to get some thoughts from people who might have one already

i messed around with one over the christmas break (a sibling has one) and they seem pretty awesome, it has just about every destination you could possibly want to go to, and you can choose a bunch of different voices for it. The touchscreen is cool too, its really easy to use. I like it alot better than the one in my jeep (which is whichever one comes stock)

thanks... do you happen to remember if it was a 300 or 700?

I own a Garmin StreetPilot C330 and it is way better than TomTom's similar model. Comes with everything you'll need. Has about 6 million points of interest with almost every restaurant/business you'll need including phone numbers.

get a Garmin or a navman, the tomtom really sucks in comparison to either product line. Damn commercials make it seem like they invented car gps.

yea and avoid Magellan.I compared mine with a similarly featured Magellan unit that cost $600 more yes $600 more !

so why does TomTom really suck?
1/7/2006 11:49:25 PM
it was the 300

I spent an hour at BestBuy trying to analyze all models, and it appears that TomTom is a very new player in the field, and lacks features like WAAS that all cheap GPS units include. the maps are not as accurate/current as Garmin and the POIs for this area pretty much suck.

look at the reviews on cnet.com, they are usually right on
1/7/2006 11:53:20 PM
everywhere I have looked it has gotten really high reviews... especially for the price

1/8/2006 1:19:29 AM
i'm amazed it took until reply 11 to get that

i've heard from old people that they're like another new invention they didn't know they needed. like Tevo.
1/8/2006 3:33:50 AM
Tivo...but yet, I mean, I heard of this thing called a "Washer and dryer" but fuck that, I prefer to just beat my shirts against a rock and lay them out on a clothes line all day

haha, Luddites....

I'm trying to get a GPS program that works with a pocket PC. I've seen some things where they take an antenna and software that fits into the SD port of a PDA. Anyone know anything more on this? I haven't heard good reviews of what I've seen so far...

Those PDA GPS' suck. It's dangerous to use them while driving.

the POIs on TomToms suck. Other than they're pretty good, but that's a pretty big problem IMO
