May be fitting one of these in my schedule.Any word on Mowat or Fauntleroy(?)i have no idea what to expect w/ 405, any thoughts?

I had mowat for PY205 and 208. For some reason he was a lot better during 205. The man knows his physics, but his teaching style was better for 205 than 208. in my opinion.

I had Mowat for PY205 and didn't like him at all--dunno about any of the other professors.

i had mowat for 205, online. i didnt do so well, but im sure it was b/c i took online. however i havent heard many good things about mowat.

I had ma341 with Fauntleroy a long time ago. He was good.

i appreciate the responses. If I did PY205, it'd be online.

Think as 405 as a really hard 3 credit hour course, almost to the point it should be 4 credit hours. I personally think PY205 is the "easier" of the two, though its probably more time consuming for assignments/labs.I personally didn't care for Mowat in 208. I'm not sure if any other instructor would be better, but the way he presented the material didn't "stick" with me.

Yeah, I really really REALLY wanted to take the PY 205 online course, but it looks like I'll need Ma405 for a prereq for a major course i have to take in the fall, and I think I don't want to risk trying to push it off till the summer and not being able to take it. i really wanted physics though.

i had mowat for 205. i liked him. nice guy.fauntleroy will work you to death in 405, but you'll learn something. you guys are using a new book this semester that was actually written for a grad level class, so have fun with that. it is a hard class, but also a really valuable one to have taken. and there are tons of linear algebra resources out there, too.

Haha, you guys are starting to scare me No, for real.. you are.

linear algebra is easy, don't sweat it. The only question you must ask yourself is (insert dramatic pause here) "what is the matrix ?"

ahahah.

ok well the first two thirds of 405 are easy. but then the last third you start to do some wacky stuff. now i really get to learn about it in MA 520 this semester! whoooo

that wacky stuff is awsome. Never again will theory be both so beautiful and practical. Linear algebra is truly unique in that it is interesting both for it's application and also for it's abstract structure. I recommend"Abstract Linear Algebra" by Morton L. Curtisas a supplement for Ma 520. I think I would have done better in Ma 520 if I'd discovered that bookearlier in my Ma 520 experience.

What is this "wacky stuff" you speak of... I'm intrigued.
