Lost in the bowl game is this. Chris Wright is the kind of player that can take us to the next level.....Elite 8....Final 4. He is ranked 6th according to scout.com and chose over UConn and DUKE among others including Kansas.
1/5/2006 1:31:01 AM
well, I wouldn't say he chose us over Duke / Kansas / Uconn. they never offered him[Edited on January 5, 2006 at 1:34 AM. Reason : a]
1/5/2006 1:33:36 AM
They were in the runnings. This guy is gonna be our best player since Hodge. Mark it down.
1/5/2006 1:45:57 AM
^ I thought Cedric Simmons was our best player since hodge.
1/5/2006 2:03:18 AM
For now. Fuck football. I want some more NCSU basketball. Bring on the Tarholes! ^Yeah he is, Ced is NBA material if he develops properly and doesn't go pro early ala Josh Powell. Wright is more high-profile than him.[Edited on January 5, 2006 at 2:05 AM. Reason : ^]

For what it is worth....Duke was going to offer Wright, as they missed out on a different 5-star point guard recruit, and Villanova offered him... and as we all know Villanova is a guard oriented University.

This is so huge.Reading his comments, it's obvious that Wright is a student of the game and has a high basketball IQ. Can't wait till he's here!

Herb needs to get him a LOI pronto.[Edited on January 5, 2006 at 11:31 AM. Reason : helping out Brew]

can someone post the story?
1/5/2006 11:29:39 AM
We won out over Nova, Maryland, and Wake.Duke was definitely after him, but K was concentrating on other guards first; you can be sure that he was going to offer as soon as he knew that he wasn't going to get any of them.
1/5/2006 11:31:32 AM
So it's still possible that K could be a rat and offer this kid?
1/5/2006 11:33:32 AM
Well, it's possible..he still has a year of HS left and anything can happen. But he loves our system, and he particularly appreciates all the interest our coaching staff has shown him. I think we really made him feel wanted; Duke's approach doesn't at all.

cant wait till ced courtney brandon and all the new guys including this one come around and really step up their level...IMHO these guys are better athletes and players than what Duke and UNC got this year...they show me alot more potential and freakishness

"The phrase “impact” often times gets overused in the recruiting business. However, on the rare occasion where it’s applicable, it should be noted. On Wednesday, Chris Wright made a commitment that will impact a program as the No. 30 prospect in the Class of 2007 reached a decision.Earmarked as the top target in the Class of 2007 for the Wolfpack by head coach Herb Sendek, Chris Wright morphed into a key target for North Carolina State the last two years. On Wednesday, the Wolfpack landed arguably its most significant recruit since Julius Hodge in 2001, when Wright selected the Pack after considering offers from Wake Forest and Villanova and strong interest from Duke.“Chris has verballed to N.C. State,” Orlando Wright, Chris’ father said. “We gave it some serious thought and I think Sendek is going to be a great coach for him. “Chris feels happy about it. He gave a lot of consideration to Villanova and Wake. In the end, I think he felt really good about their players.”Wright, a 6-foot-1 scoring point guard, is ranked as the No. 30 prospect in the junior class by Scout.com. He was a pre-season pick as one of the nation’s Top 6 point guards who has played his way into Top 5 status. Last week at the GSK Invitational, Wright was named the event’s Most Outstanding Player. As a sophomore he averaged 22.1 points and is right at 21 this season. To its credit, N.C. State worked Wright with everything it had and sold him on the overall success of their program and on the role he would play in terms of the future success of a team that has been to the past 4 NCAA Tournaments.“In their system, they’ve never really had a multi-talented point guard,” Chris Wright said. “I think I’ll be able to create a lot of problems for their opposing defenses. They have a lot of shooters and if I penetrate it’ll create a lot of shots for the shooters. Then again, there are so many lanes for me to get open and shoot 3s. On the defensive end, they play man-to-man and that’s what I’ve played growing up as a little kid.”One day after Wright’s team captured the consolation game at the GSK Invitational, the prospect and his father remained in Raleigh to take in the Pack’s win over George Washington. The visit proved to be pivotal in the early decision.“It was real tough but then again it was pretty easy when I looked at it,” Chris Wright said. “It felt like a home to me. I loved the coaching staff and there’s a great foundation there. It was very easy for me to fit into their program.“Just being around the fans, they showed me a lot of love and respect. I know if went there it would be a big thing and we can accomplish some great things there.”You can expect Wright to begin beating the drum for recruits to join him in Raleigh. He’s excited about the foundation and the future of the program and wouldn’t mind some company in his recruiting class.“I think with me going there, maybe some players would like to join me and play at N.C. State. I think for guards in my style, playing that type of offense would fit them. It’s what the pro players run: it’s what Mike Bibby and Jason Kidd run.”In short, it’s the Wright fit for the Washington (D.C.) St. John’s College guard and it’s a big deal for the Pack. "

btttt, so chris wright comes in two years right??? now who is gonna run point with atsur next year??? no one from this year i hope, do we have a pretty decent freshman coming in next year at guard?
2/1/2006 12:17:34 PM
no
2/1/2006 12:19:08 PM
i bet fells could handle the ball along with atsur, just as help if atsur is gettin pressured, kinda like hodge
2/1/2006 12:19:41 PM
Next year, we'll have Fells, Davis, and Ferguson, in addition to Engin.
2/1/2006 12:24:41 PM
Atsur plays point next year, then Wright. He comes in just after Engin graduates.
2/1/2006 12:38:53 PM
^ i understand that much, but itd be nice to have another solid point guard and shooter to play along with atsur next year
2/1/2006 12:46:11 PM
What about Dan Werner? When is he coming?
2/1/2006 12:55:51 PM
Larry Davis could play a little point for us next year. And if Gavin can get a little more consistent he'll get some ball-handling duties. We should have a lot of 2/3/4s next year. So the two's and small 3's will be helping Atsur with "PG duties" and then we'll give it to guys like Fells and Grant when we need someone to drive and get a basket. We might have some troubles early next year, but I think our ball-handling will be fine. And it will be great the year after with Wright.

a strong verbal from wright, cant officially commit yet, hes only a junior. Just read that article, hes ours.
2/1/2006 1:59:19 PM
what article?
2/1/2006 2:01:51 PM
The one in this thread.
2/1/2006 2:14:21 PM
Gavin's got plenty of time to work on his ball-handling. He doesn't have to do it this year. If he doesn't improve, fine...I think we can do alright with Atsur, Fells, and Davis.I'm just saying that it would be nice if Grant could help us out in that area.
2/1/2006 2:56:26 PM
gotcha, i totally forgot about davis to help with point next year,,, dennis horner looks to be good, small forward with the three ball
