cause they only beat 2 teams with winning records and one of them was Navy
1/4/2006 10:57:30 AM
!!!!CHARLEY WEIS!!!!!way to get them to give you the contract before the bowl game tubby
1/4/2006 11:04:02 AM
i think they gave him the contract because, unlike ty willingham, charlie weis wouldve gotten job offers from a dozen NFL teams to be their head coach because weis won superbowls in NE...but convince me ND was great...now granted, they played pretty damn well against USC...but come on, 2 wins against teams with winning records? fucking Chapel Hill doubled that]
1/4/2006 11:07:05 AM
Good year in terms of football...maybe, maybe not. I think they played pretty well despite the losses. The level of competition point is valid, though. For the program, though...the hype alone is enough to be a good year. They're back in the spotlight and they made it to a BCS bowl, getting their name to recruits. It's just like after Ty's first year.
1/4/2006 11:12:18 AM
i agree with what you said but i'm more disputing how they deserved a BCS bowl in the first place...Michigan was the only quality opponent that they beat who had a record of .500 or better ( I don't consider Navy a quality opponent)
1/4/2006 11:15:37 AM
That's not really Weis's fault, though, so much as the schedule. They lost to USC and OSU, one of whom is playing in the title game and one of whom was expected to compete for that right earlier in the season. The Michigan State loss was bad, but State has had their number the last few years and was definitely pumped for that game.
1/4/2006 11:19:45 AM
They went toe to toe with (and barely lost to) the best team in the nation this yearIn 2003 they lost to us in the Gator BowlThey've come a very long way
1/4/2006 11:55:16 AM
Bah
1/4/2006 11:57:56 AM
^^ So by that logic, would you consider this year and last year great years for NC State since we beat the eventual ACC champion?
1/4/2006 12:00:23 PM
we barely lost to Ohio State in triple overtime during their 15 game win streak or whatever...did we play in a BCS bowl that year? any year? we've also beaten the shit out of Navy before
1/4/2006 12:11:41 PM
^^ No, there's a big difference between National Champions and Conference Champions. One has to be the best of every D-1A team. The other just has to be better than Miami and VT.
1/4/2006 12:13:15 PM
actually they only have to be better than ND UCLA and Ore
1/4/2006 12:17:45 PM
Well considering the extent to which they shit on the #2 team last year (and may very well do it again this year), I don't think they have many doubters as to being the top team in the nation.Or at the very least, they're #2.
1/4/2006 12:20:06 PM
I do think ND is overrated and that they had a solid, but not great year. The fact that their schedule turned out to be soft was not their fault. Purdue, Michigan State, Tennessee, Pittsburgh, Washington, and Stanford all had very disappointing seasons. ND always plays a quality schedule and I think they are a better team than Oregon.
1/4/2006 12:20:40 PM
1/4/2006 12:20:46 PM
that was last yearthey have different players this yearbesides Oklahoma's status as the #2 team last year is a big question mark.and fsu proved they could play with the #3 team in the country

1/4/2006 12:36:51 PM
Lots of teams led against them in the second half. They didn't show up until after halftime probably in about 50% of their games. Here's the thing I'm curious about, because I really don't know on this one, but...Who deserved the BCS bid more than ND?
1/4/2006 12:44:14 PM
Oregon
1/4/2006 12:44:52 PM
Ok, so if I'm the BCS, I'm trying to find the best team between ND and OregonNow, granted, ND didn't beat much of anyone, but they hung with the #1 team in the nation. So in theory they're obviously pretty good, right?Contrast that with Oregon who got blown out, but did beat a bunch of low ranked teams. You've got to find some team to play the #4 team in the nation -- who would you honestly choose? As an aside, I just want to mention that I really don't give two shits about ND and whether they had a good year, great year or not. I've just thoroughly enjoyed some of the games they've been a part of.[Edited on January 4, 2006 at 1:02 PM. Reason : .]
1/4/2006 1:01:19 PM
its not who you play, its who you BEAT
1/4/2006 1:02:35 PM
That doesn't answer the question at all.
1/4/2006 1:27:42 PM
i think vt and fsu both had seasons comparable to ND'soregon was ranked high in the bcs but only b/c the pac-10 is always highly overrated
1/4/2006 1:32:04 PM
Hell, even Auburn could be considered. 9-2 with multiple wins over ranked teams.[Edited on January 4, 2006 at 1:33 PM. Reason : bowl game performance aside, because we're discussing BCS selection]

When Texas beats the pants off USC tonight, will the "we almost beat USC" agrument hold any water?
1/4/2006 1:34:46 PM
the Panthers almost beat the Patriots in Superbowl 38but you see, they ALMOST beat them...they didnt win...they lost
1/4/2006 1:38:04 PM
^^^that is irrelevant to the discussion. he is trying to determine if the deserve to be back in the nat'l spotlight.b/c the fact is, they never left. ND is ALWAYS in the nat'l spotlight, unfortunately.[Edited on January 4, 2006 at 1:38 PM. Reason : a]
1/4/2006 1:38:22 PM
we almost beat VT, wake and unc so we deserved a better bowl
1/4/2006 1:39:40 PM

You put down Navy, but this is a totally different team than the one NC State beat back when Phil was here. New head coach, new offense, and the #1 rushing attack in the country (not to mention the least penalized team in the country yards wise). I really would have loved to see the Navy offense match up against the NC State defense this year - Manny and Mario would have had to learn to stay home much more than they did for the most part this year. And it's not like NC State had powerful offense to make up for missed opportunities like they did with Phil.I'm not trying to say that Navy is a powerhouse, but I also can be pretty sure that if I bet 100 bucks against all of you that you didn't watch more than 2 Navy games all season, I'd be a very rich man. And unless you watch the games, you really don't know what you're talkng about. Those of you who knock Navy for the losses they had to NC State are simply living in the past.
