I think I might lay $100 on those odds. I think they have a better shot than that.

I'm about to become a huge Panthers fan.

What do you think, rally?

I'm not confident. They should be dogs to the Giants, and it only gets tougher from there.

I don't think the O-Line is playing well enough. Against a tough D, they can't run and Delhomme gets blindsided frequently.

giants game will be the biggest hurdle. Their D-line will feast on our oline. I think we go into seattle and beat them though, I'm worried about the bears though, but I think we will get them this time if we play them

I think the Panthers:

1) Are soft against the run

2) Have a non-existent running game against any team not named Atlanta

3) Have only two offensive threats (Steve Smith and Steve Smith)

4) Have a shitty kicker.

5) Have a quarterback who is two parts Fumble/Interception and one part touchdown. (FIT)

6) Give up too many 3rd down conversions on defense

In other words, I took the Giants -2.5 this weekend.

8) Are inconsistent, but when they are on, they can beat anybody

Then maybe its time for you to grow up.

Once you get older and realize that athletes aren't role models or even nice people you realize that gambling is what drives the sports industry.

When you get past the hero worship stage of your life then you'll understand the beauty of gambling.

What?

Tampa Bay just won the Super Bowl in 2003.
The Giants have won a Super Bowl and just played in one in 2001.
The Redskins have won a Super Bowl.
The Bears have won a Super Bowl.

You're one of only two NFC teams in the playoffs to never win the Super Bowl.

The Panthers might be able to beat the Giants (just because the Giants secondary is so torn apart), but there's no way they can beat the Seahawks.

Here's the biggest problem -- they gave up almost 200 yards on the ground two weeks ago to Julius Jones, who hadn't run for 100+ all season, and everyone not named the Bears in the NFC playoff picture has a great running game.

Thomas Jones is actually pretty good if he's healthy...

Redskins have won twothree Super Bowls

Giants have won two Super Bowls.

I think he meant, teams as in rosters... not teams as in franchises...

In other words, its not like Rex Grossman, Eli Manning, or Mark Brunell played in those Super Bowls...

No one on Atlanta showed up to play that game and they certainly didn't try to run the ball. Dunn had only 7 carries all game.

So no, they didn't apply the "biggest fix"

The Giants will choke on Sunday. The Redskins will win. The Panthers will not lose to the Bears twice. The Panthers will have a good shot at beating Seattle for the NFC championship. If I was a betting man, I'd take those odds.

Ok, Panthers colored glasses off for a second, buddy

Atlanta played like shit. Complete and utter shit. They didn't show up for the game. They didn't play hard in the game. They rolled over about 5 minutes into it.

Your team does not look "good" when the other team just forgets to cover Steve Smith and doesn't have a DB within 20 yards of him.

Rally, specifically.

And, yeah, I've got the extra hundred to take a chance. I wanted to do one bet in the AFC and one in the NFC, so of course I wanted to bet on the teams that would give me the best value. I think the Panthers have about a 7 to 1 or 8 to 1 shot, so of course I took 11 to 1.

The Giants are beatable, even at NY. It just depends which Giants team shows up, they've been fairly Jeckyll and Hyde this season, mainly because of their defense.

If the Panthers beat the Giants, I think they can slide by Seattle.

Also, I might put in some hedge bets along the way to make it a guaranteed profitable endeavor.

^^Maybe you didnt see the game but late in the 4th quarter the score was 44-3...but make sure to remind me the final was 44-11 and even though Atlanta played like shit please remind me how Matt Schaub's meaningless 4th quarter drive exposes how weak the Panthers are

you better recognize you're own biased glasses that YOU'RE wearing...you completely dismiss last week as a fluke for the Panthers against a shitty Atlanta team but you are so convinced that Julius Jones running on us is the real Panthers this year...the Cowboys game was the THIRD GAME ALL YEAR WHEN THE PANTHERS ALLOWED > 100 RUSHING YARDS

hey whens the last time Seattle won a playoff game? in the last 15 years?

What the fuck are you smoking? Atlanta played like absolute shit. Schaub scoring against your second string defense doesn't mean a damn thing.

What does matter though is that two weeks ago, you gave up almost 200 yards to a mediocre running back. What matters is that even with only 7 touches, Dunn had 30+ yards last week.

These are things to be concerned about, especially considering you haven't faced a very good rushing team outside of Atlanta (who when they played was one of those 3 games) and Tampa Bay (who you lost to when Williams was healthy and who rushed for 100+ yards against you).

Lets recap real quick.

You've played a combined 4 games against teams with a good running game.

2 against Atlanta
2 against TB

For one of those Atlanta games (last week) Atlanta didn't show up. So ignore that game.
For one of those Tampa Bay games (the one you won), Williams was injured.

Now lets look at the remaining two games:
Atlanta rushed for 111 against you. (Albeit, you won this game)
TB rushed for 114.

And then you have Jones putting 194 on you.

You're probably going to want to watch your run defense is all I'm saying.

hey Stein why dont you also factor into consideration that Cadillac Williams, Ronnie Brown and Julius Jones are the only 3 RBs to rush for 100+ yards on us this year

- Thomas Jones didnt rush for 100 yards on us
- Cadillac played both games against us and got shut down in the 1st game
- We stopped Ahman Green...matter of fact we stopped his SEASON
- Corey Dillon didnt rush for 100 on us
- Dunn didnt rush for 100 on us in either game

you fail to realize that over 75% of the season, we played good run defense

btw as soon as you say "Atlanta didnt show up, so ignore that game" you are just making gay excuses

Honestly, and I'm obviously biased, I think the Skins actually have the best shot to win the NFC. They have beat every team NFC team they have played except Tampa Bay (bullshit call gave them them the 1 pt win). They have played the toughest schedule and have a coach who has not only won 3 Superbowls, but he is 16-5 in the post season. Other than the Skins I'd say it would be the Bears, but I dont think they are balanced enough to win the NFC.

Oh, I know -- let me quote a little something from the ESPN news blurb about the game though

"recovering Carnell "Cadillac" Williams"

Quote :
"- We stopped Ahman Green...matter of fact we stopped his SEASON"

Green hadn't rushed for 100+ yards since November 14th, 2004.

Quote :
"- Corey Dillon didnt rush for 100 on us"

Corey Dillion put up a whooping 63 yards against Oakland the week before and then 60 something afterwards. I wouldn't be too excited about this.

Quote :
"- Dunn didnt rush for 100 on us in either game"

He got 80 in the game Atlanta actually played and was averaging 4+ YPC before Atlanta stopped running the ball with him last week.

Quote :
"you fail to realize that over 75% of the season, we played good run defense"

Against no one who really mattered.

Quote :

I mean, even if you choose not to ignore that game, like I said Dunn was still averaging 4+ YPC.

Well, after you've already won five straight, your're not trying to win eight straight any more. Now, you only need to win three straight.

It's like saying the chances of flipping tails twice in a row is 25%. Well, after you've flipped tails for the first time, it's not 25% any more, it's now a 50% shot.

They still won't win, though.

Stein...how biased are you? You go full circle from claiming that when the Panthers got run on by a back (ie Brown, Caddy, Julius), thats the Panthers' run defense...but when we shut down a RB, you say those are flukes and dont matter...you mustve bet on Atlanta last week and you must still be bitter about your loss

I don't bet on football.

I'm just pointing out your run defense isn't as good as you think it is. I'm pointing out that you've held people who hadn't been running very well at the beginning of the season and teams that can't run down, while allowing good teams to slip through and put up yards.

But I guess we'll see come this weekend. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong.

If I'm right though, it could very well mean "bye bye Panthers"

Not that I really care one way or another. It is kind of funny watching you Panthers fans get all defensive though.

it will be even more funny to watch the Panthers defense get all defensive on the Giants

and honestly, Barber is a top 5 back in the league...you could argue a top 3 back...but at the same time I think Fox is gonna put 7-8 in the box and force Eli to beat us...Eli who completes 50% of his passes...cover Barber, Plax and Shockey...make Eli go to Toomer to beat us

either way, it should be a good game...who knows who will win...I just think both teams have a great chance...one win doesnt make you the best team and one loss doesnt make you the worst team (although it eliminates you from the playoffs)...and one bad run defense game doesnt mean you have a bad run defense, especially when you've stopped the other team's feature back (from rushing for 100 yards) in 13 out of 16 games

They just had it at completely the wrong time -- complete defensive breakdowns like that during Week 16 aren't a good sign. That, plus all the little things I've mentioned is what makes it suspect in my eyes.

no...the WRONG TIME to have one of those games is in the playoffs...sure our run defense was bad in Week 16...but it was good in Week 17...say what you want about Dunn and Duckett...they got shut down...Vick's run game got shut down too

the only thing that matters is that the Panthers are in the playoffs...everybody is 0-0...everybody's stats are 0's and .000's

and btw, that "complete defensive breakdown"...we still damn near blocked a FG to win the game...I'm not gonna say we blocked it cause it doesnt matter...Dallas is gonna be watching the Panthers on TV

yeah...i agree with TreeTwista10......Fox is definitely going to stack against the run and leave lucas and gamble man to man with toomer and buress...considering the two of them combined for 13 INT this year and have rarely made a mistake...i am really confident in carolina's defense.....barber is the only question mark here i believe...we may be stacking the line, but tiki is just ridiculous and could still get some huge plays. Eli wont beat us...barber is their only chance

Eli Stat Predictions : 12/25 130 yds 2 INT 1 TD
