someone stop him from hanging out with jordan collins
1/3/2006 8:46:55 PM
Him being able to shoot is an awesome addition. No one guards him at the top of the key when he's setting the offense because they don't believe he'll hit anything.
1/3/2006 8:48:35 PM
just because he hit a 3 doesnt mean he can shootI'd much rather him master the mid range shot, and closer range bank shot.
1/3/2006 8:53:19 PM
He was being sarcasticI hope
1/3/2006 8:57:18 PM
He has hit mid-range shots already this season. One three-pointer doesn't establish shooting skill, but he needs confidence in his ability. And no, I'm not sarcastic. Watch. When we run sets with him at the top of the key, he is more often than not wide open.

Ced will never ever be given the green light to heave any up from the top of the key in anything remotely approaching a normal game situation.Confidence in his shot is great, and I'm certainly not against him taking open mid rangers, but there's a reason he's only shot two three pointers thus far this season.[Edited on January 3, 2006 at 9:13 PM. Reason : Note: I took what you were saying as meaning to say he should start taking those shots from the key]

Always? No.But it definitely helps to have that option, and a big man outside creates huge matchup problems.Look at the way everyone tried to guard Ilian the past few years--whenever he stepped outside, it was like they were thinking "Oh, the tall guy won't try to shoot from out there!"
1/3/2006 9:18:11 PM
That's true, but there's just no way Ced will ever be knocking down those shots at nearly the rate IE has done it. And he shouldn't be wasting time and energy trying to acquire that shot. It's simply not his game.
1/3/2006 9:20:48 PM
No argument there. I'd be happy if he could consistently hit a jumper from the free-throw line; then we can just drop him right in the center of a 2-3 and he'd be a killer. My only point is, our general philosophy is to take advantage of what the defense gives you. From that viewpoint, every extra option we have on offense is another way to take those edges.

can you refrain from spewing pure bullshit?- Evtimov has to shoot from the outside because he is undersized. if he didn't have that skill, no point playing him at all. Ced has no such problem. - Ced is open because people lay off of him. Ced shooting is a turnover.- Practice time is limited. Do you want your true big man shooting 3s or practicing big man post moves?cedric != evtimovwhile we are wishing for stuff that will never happen, I wish I had a robotic flying car that dispensed vodka from the steering wheel.[Edited on January 3, 2006 at 9:26 PM. Reason : redundant]

As my late granfather said:Even a goathead learns after a while. And might I add: goatheads don't graduate from Carnegie Mellon

One of the things that makes our offense attractive to big men is that it gives them the opportunity to shoot from outside and handle the ball more. Its a big reason why guys like Costner and Brackman ended up here. After Simmons committed, he talked about how he was working on his outside game and 3-pointers so that he could be a versatile big man. That said, he'll never be that kind of player. He would best benefit our team by staying as close to the basket as our offense allows.
