...that have "twice as many pixels as any other tv on the market".thoughts?http://products.sel.sony.com/hdtv/tech/main/sxrd_index.html

pretty sure it means that it can display at 1080p, which I don't think many/any other TVs do yet. They all do 720p or 1080i. So it has the same resolution as 1080i TVs, but has a refresh rate that's effectively twice as fast.

^ yeah. Plus, I think they're LCOS too. Pretty much the best rear projection TVs on the market right now.
1/1/2006 12:48:57 PM
yeahbut the 60" is a 5000 dollar projection tvouch
1/1/2006 12:54:02 PM
tigerdirect has a 4th gen Samsung 56" DLP thats 1080p with stand and 5 piece surround system for $2700 bucks. It's fucking hot.

did i miss something?what about..Pioneer's 61" 1080p Plasmaor sony's1080p front projector...costs the same as the 61" plasma without the screen though.
1/2/2006 7:05:59 PM
i attended CES and the sony tv's are hot.
1/12/2006 3:14:24 AM
they have had the sony sxrd's at Tweeter for at least 3 or 4 months. They have the 70" and 60" on display. needless to say, it's BALLER AS FUCK.
1/12/2006 3:18:04 AM
yea the sxrds are nice we have 1 on display at ccity. another advantage is supposed to be they have 1/2 as much space between the pixels as others. i think the sxrd is the best looking rear projection we have hands down.and we got all kinds of financin options for people who havn't yet achieved balla status.

It doesnt matter if its 900000 pixels , if the image processor sucks, it wont matter. When is the last time you had 1080p as a video option on HDTV channels.[Edited on January 12, 2006 at 9:21 AM. Reason : .]

Sony TV's scale pretty well but nothing on this planet is going to make standard TV look good.

i decided to put our 50" sxrd right next to the Sony 50" lcd projection at work (sears at cary) and now we're all like damn the lcd looks like shit (and its still $2500!!) next to the SXRD. but of course if your source isn't up to par then I agree but you can see a big difference regardless. Source, source, source Its the same price as a 50" Panasonic or Samsung plasma. Unless a technophile wants to buy one, it will be tough to sell until the price comes down.I can't imagine the 70" version- I need to stop by tweeter (its got to be at least $7000 !!)[Edited on January 12, 2006 at 9:40 AM. Reason : god i can't type this morning]

the 70" was somewhere around $13k about a month ago. the 50" was like $4500 or so.

I dont like deinterlacer noise . Im not saying it has that problem, but i would have to see it in person and no store tv setup in this area has a decent signal hooked up to it. Tweeter guys will ask me about my projecter for too long, and then ramble about some silverfirehawkbeadscreen for 2300$.[Edited on January 12, 2006 at 11:30 AM. Reason : .]

Yea seriously. If I wanted to see how shitty an HD signal split 50 times without amplification looks I'd stay at home.

1/12/2006 2:12:40 PM
yeah it sucks we gotta do that
1/12/2006 4:37:07 PM
The SXRD is 1080p... Howerever... it cannot accept a true 1080p signal (ie ps3, hd-dvd, bluray). It will upconvert a 720p or 1080i signal to 1080p. Wait for the 2nd generation 1080p tvs before dropping 3K+ on a tv. A couple 1080p tv's (ie one from HP and the beasts from samsung) can accept a 1080p signal through their RGB connection. But thats crap since most people would hook their stuff up with an HDMI input.
1/12/2006 10:48:40 PM
^ That can be a problem, depending on how you look at it. As a rule of thumb with anything, if you can wait longer you should. Right now, not acepting a 1080p signal isn't that bad, because there is not much, if anything, that currently has that resolution. It's extremely hard to tell the difference between 1080i and 1080p anyway.. Just my opinion.
1/13/2006 7:33:02 AM
shhhhh..... don't tell the wealthy Cary ppl this
1/13/2006 9:04:49 AM
Im not quite sure why you need that resolution in a TV at all. I use a 720p projecter and cant see the pixels on a 120 inch screen from my couch, and my couch is pretty fucking close.
1/13/2006 9:08:16 AM
Uhm No. SXRD is just a display technology and it can display any 1080p signal.Whether or not the television accepts it is up to Sony but I highly doubt that they won't.
1/13/2006 9:49:32 AM
^Its sony, so no obvious feature being omittied would surprise me[Edited on January 13, 2006 at 10:02 AM. Reason : .]

you can bet your ass it will let you view your photos from sony memory stick tho.
1/13/2006 10:04:01 AM
Oh they'll have the feature.Once you plug your cable box into it though, itll make sure only Sony TV's will get signal.
1/13/2006 10:17:49 AM
boo to hdmi.

Oh yeah, and there's a wall mountable version of the SXRD coming out. It's unconfirmed in this article, but I know some people at Best Buy and have already seen the confirmation letter that Best Buy will be carrying it in spring 2006 http://www.cnet.com/4831-11405_1-6413188.html?tag=all
