Anyone know what happened to it? Went by there today and the place was being dismantled. Didnt see any info as to what happened or if they moved. Anyone know of another good freshwater fish store also?
12/26/2005 4:30:15 PM
My guess is that they went out of business.
12/26/2005 4:34:14 PM

12/26/2005 5:07:13 PM
it's definitely a trend right now...i finally saved up enough to start a salt water tank this past february and it seems like everyone has one now, i didnt know i was being trendy...oh well
12/26/2005 5:12:30 PM
fish world's hours suck... it's a fish store... not a fucking bank correction... at least their "holiday" hours suck... I see they're supposed to open til 8, but last time I was over there around 5 it was already closed (on a weekday)[Edited on December 26, 2005 at 5:37 PM. Reason : blah]
12/26/2005 5:36:39 PM
wow that looks like the place to go for fish now. Ill check it tomorrow maybe. Elise how much did you spend for your saltwater and how tough was it to start up? I have freshwater now but I really want to start a saltwater soon.
12/26/2005 6:43:25 PM
^it's going to cost A LOTI have a 12g nanocube still if you're interested. It has a 70w 14k metal halide... so you'll be set for growing most coral/clams.
12/26/2005 8:34:47 PM
i spent ~500, and i worked at a petstore so I got a discount. it's a 44 gallon, and I don't have the lighting for corals and clams, but i love my tank anyways
12/26/2005 10:57:28 PM
just wait til you get to corals... $$$ each coral costs AT LEAST as much as a fish... if you thought keeping fish was expensive...but I do have to say that I miss it and loved looking at my tank. that thing was the most rewarding "pet" i've had
12/27/2005 12:01:28 AM
fish world's hours are better than fish pros
12/27/2005 1:06:54 PM
it is defnitely rewarding...(i think) my tank is gorgeous!!!
12/27/2005 7:29:11 PM
where's the fish?
12/27/2005 9:43:15 PM
It's right to the right side of the big hole in the rock on the left... looks like a type of damsel. Went there today, spent a ton of money on my tank and came home with lots of goodies, turbo snails and a new tang I love that place really - those people really know their stuff and I love the fact that a good portion of the shop is dedicated to saltwater. Capitol BLVD off of 440, take a right on Westinghouse Blvd and keep going through the intersection with Raleigh I believe. Fish World will be on your right in the first big building.

Ive had my saltwater aquarium going for almost 2 years and its not near as expensive if you take it slow and build most of the equipment. I never paid over $10 for a coral and the vast majority were given/traded to me. I dont have any sps/lps so maybe thats why I always found it easy to find people willing to trade. Even NO lighting can be enough to keep mushrooms and some polyps before investing in the expensive lighting.

Gypsy used to buy fish thereseriously, I went with her once
12/30/2005 9:45:16 AM
the thing i don't like about fish world is that their freshwater section isn't that great. The need more varieties of goldfish and tropical fish. I didn't see any big angels or any discus when I was there yesterday. They also need to remove dead fish from the tanks. Nobody would want to buy fish from the same water that has dead fish in it.

You guys should be shopping at Aqua Escape for saltwater fish! It is reopen under new management. The store is under construction, but the product is really great. You can even upload pictures of your tank to the website. It is on peace st. next to Jersey Mikes.http://www.aquaescape.comThere is a 10% discount to NC State Students but you have to ask about it.

aqua escape was filthy last time i went in there, there were dead fish EVERYWHERE and aptasia ran rampant. It made me sad. [Edited on December 31, 2005 at 8:42 AM. Reason : does this new management care about their livestock? the old definitely did not!]
12/31/2005 8:41:33 AM
Yeah the freshwater fish offerings in this area are very limited for some reason. Back in Va. Beach I could find just about any fish I wanted. Anybody ever ordered a fish online? I might give that a shot soon.
12/31/2005 9:06:21 AM
freshwater fish are inherently boring
12/31/2005 2:14:08 PM
^ I know Im saving up enough to convert to a saltwater. Hopefully a few months or so.
12/31/2005 2:45:33 PM
^^eh, I don't have time to maintain a saltwater tank. Plus, if think freshwater is boring, you haven't kept the right fish. Personally, I'm on the lookout for an Asian Arowana right now. Those fish are beautiful. I also have a few discus, they're good looking too.
12/31/2005 3:36:56 PM
When was the last time you were in Aqua Escape? It has been under new management for about 2 months I think. I have bought a black clown and some fantastic coral and it has done great. Talk to Chris when you go in, he really knows his stuff. I actually go in about once a week and i have never seen a dead fish in the tanks. Unlike Fish World.
12/31/2005 6:42:35 PM
^yea, Fish World had a bunch of dead/dying fish when I was there.
12/31/2005 11:34:04 PM
Big fresh water fish are entertaining, Asian Arowanas are not imported legally. Chris @ Aquascapes is very knowlegable and easy to work with.

last time i went was atleast 6 months ago, glad to know there are new people there. i'll have to go back and give them another chance.

If aqua escape is the one in downtown raleigh... that place was horrible last time I went there. I went planning on just looking around, but when I got there... I tried to buy some rics and the owner wouldn't sell me any because "theywere attached to rocks"... wtf? everything is probably attached to rocks!! Then I said... well maybe I could use some live rock. Well all their live rock had aiptasia. To top all of that their place looked like it was about to fall apart.

Did you see these pictures some dude posted on the aqua escape site. This guy is an amazing photographer!http://www.aquaescape.com/gallery_detail.php?tank_id=21

Just got back from Aqua Escape and the store is looking a lot better. The new owners are really turning it around. Their show tank is looking really good, and they have a crazy looking lion fish in there.
1/28/2006 5:13:50 PM
I'm guessing you work for them.
1/28/2006 5:34:28 PM
Down Under is a new store that's only been open for about 4-5 months. They're in Garner off HWY 70 (it'll be on the left hand side of the road). That place is dedicated only to saltwater and I'm telling you, the guy that owns the place is awesome. He really wants people to be educated about the stock he carries and about saltwater tanks in general. I'd say definately take the 15 min to get there and go - it's worth it. Oh, and they also have a great selection of corals and fish too.
