Just wondering who all had one of these certifications. I've got my EIT and will hopefully have my PE in a couple of years.

Unless you're a Civil or Mechanical Engineer....especially Civil[Edited on December 26, 2005 at 5:59 PM. Reason : like me]

EIT here. I was wondering when I can take the PE so I wrote the board last week. I graduated December 2002 with a BSME and I was hoping I could take the PE in october of 2006. It turns out that I can't even apply to take it until December of 2006 for the Spring 2007 exam. I'm planning to take the PE for Control Systems Engineering. Will be purchasing the study guide soon.

EI here (they changed the designation right before I took the exam)
12/27/2005 11:45:22 AM
Yeah, well technically I'm an EI too.
12/27/2005 1:06:38 PM
I'm an EIT.

EIT

EI or EIT here too
12/27/2005 3:43:23 PM
EI, hopefully be able to get the PE in a few years. What is it, five years experience under a PE?
12/28/2005 8:48:25 AM
EI here as well....
12/28/2005 8:55:39 AM
^^Four years in NC
12/28/2005 9:07:05 AM
any options if you don't work directly under another PE?
12/28/2005 10:46:19 AM
^you'll have to check the board in the state you'll be taking the test in. In NC, it's four years of progressive engineering experience, not necessarily working under a PE. Granted, you'll have to get recommendations from PEs to take the exam, but there should be a couple lurking around your company that can sign off.
12/28/2005 11:03:46 AM
Four year, damn, I'll be ready to take the exam after the end of 2006.Should be able to find a PE around here at GE.Anyone know if I can take the NC exam even though I live in SC?
12/28/2005 12:15:10 PM
Just take the exam in SC and get your NC license by comity once you've passed
12/28/2005 2:48:23 PM
EIbut i have no need or use for a PE so i doubt i'll ever take it
12/28/2005 4:26:30 PM
master's degree counts as one year towards PE eligibilitiy. doctorate is another year.
12/28/2005 4:50:11 PM
does it have to be an engineering masters? also, say i worked 30 hours/week while in grad school. does that count?[Edited on December 28, 2005 at 5:02 PM. Reason : e]
12/28/2005 5:02:34 PM
EI right hereI was wondering if anyone knows if any professional experience I got before getting my EI certification counts towards the experience I need before I can take the PE exam
12/28/2005 8:41:56 PM
I have my EI...^http://www.ncbels.org It's got anything and everything that you want to know about licensing in NC.
12/28/2005 9:28:46 PM
EI here...i'm a CE with a master's in CE. the masters takes a year off of the experience, however, the friends i graduated with and took the EI and went straight to work will be eligible for the PE before i will. i actually called the NC board to find out exactly when i could take the PE, and the lady told me she couldn't tell me when to apply, and that i should apply when i feel comfortable...it sounded like eligibility isn't etched in stone, and exceptions will be considered...
12/29/2005 8:15:08 AM
^actually, no, they don't consider exceptions that defer from the posted rules of licensure. The rules are written in stone (see the NCBELS website for all the rules, regulations, etc.). Of course she can't tell you when to apply - but I can guarantee you that if you don't meet all of the requirements (such as getting 4 years of engineering experience be it through school and/or work), they'll deny your application in way less time than it'll take you to fill the form out.Plenty of people wait longer than 4 years to take the exam. Chances are that not all of your friends who went straight into the work force will pass the exam on the first try. Don't worry about an extra year or two - that's extra time that you don't have to worry about your seal going on something that collapses and injures/kills someone.
12/29/2005 9:29:24 AM
^^Myron, buddy... how you been?
12/29/2005 10:18:37 AM
^^i'm just passing along info that was given to me. if the rules were etched in stone like the website says, and believe me, i have been on the website numerous times, the lady would have told me when i could apply. she told me she couldn't tell me...that i should apply when i felt comfortable. and i wouldn't be so sure that my friends won't pass on the first try...i graduated with some smart guys. and about waiting more than four years...i don't think so...i want to apply ASAP...thats quite a bit more money since i'm working with NCDOT, just for passing the exam. if i stay in construction, then i won't have to stamp nothing, so, i'm covered.^i've been doing good jen, how bout yourself? whats new in your world?
12/29/2005 5:03:25 PM
EIT mother fucker!!!!
12/29/2005 11:56:25 PM
EIT, probably won't ever take the PE.
12/30/2005 12:29:30 AM

12/30/2005 12:32:08 AM

12/31/2005 2:45:27 AM
Yes, I'm a PE.
12/31/2005 12:14:52 PM
Found out on Thursday that I passed the SE I, and am now a PE....
12/31/2005 7:31:31 PM
^ what at 22?
12/31/2005 11:43:53 PM
Sorry bout that, my profile is/was a little dated, I guess I needed to update it, thanks for the reminder. Class of '01
1/1/2006 5:40:23 PM
Congrats on passing. Once you get your stamp, make sure you frame the 1st thing you seal. I did it and it's always cool to look back at it.
1/1/2006 6:08:32 PM
EIi doubt i'll ever try to get a PE.
1/3/2006 5:34:25 PM
taking the PE in about 3 months
1/4/2006 2:05:10 AM
I passed the EI in the spring of 2003. I can sit for my electrical PE exam in the fall of 2007.

EI here
1/16/2006 9:22:16 AM
EI, doubt ill ever get PE..
1/16/2006 11:34:26 AM
EIT... but not doing anything with it...
1/22/2006 1:48:35 AM
EI. probably won't get the PE b/c the company I work for finds PE's as a liability
1/28/2006 6:46:37 PM
Has anyone taken the Control Systems PE? My degree is mechanical but have been working in the control systems industry for the past few years. I plan to take the PE next year but I was told by someone that I may fair better on the Mechanical PE rather than the Control Systems PE. I don't need it for my job but it has always been a personal goal.
3/27/2006 8:50:30 PM
4/13/2006 11:07:23 PM
^^^they prob. dont want to have to give you (or any PE) a pay raise when they can just have EI's do the same work
4/14/2006 9:09:39 AM
^I'm a sales engineer so becoming a PE says that I guarantee that what I sale will work. hence becoming a liability b/c alot of engineers don't have a clue whats going on
