If you know of a good one please tell me. I use drugstore brand ones now, I usually like pencils b/c I like to smudge them, but I'm not opposed to liquid. I don't mind buying an expensive brand if it does the job. Thanks!

What's your skin-type...dry/oily?

....normal, I think ?

Ok. I use Prescriptives Deluxe Eye Pencil, and love it. Very easy to apply, stays put, and good for the smoky eye look. If you want something with more precision I'd recommend Lancome Art Liner, it's a great product if you know how to apply it correctly (and patiently).

i use loreal lineur intense liquid liner, its about $6-$7liquid liner is really good about staying put... a lot of the pencil or shadow liners i use run so i have to touch them up which is annoying. (although i do go with a shadow liner if i'm going to smudge them)if you're new to liquid liner, lay the edge across your eyelid sideways to apply.. don't try to apply it with the tip (my friends do this and then don't understand why they can't get straight lines!)black liquid liner does a good job of making your lashes look longer, so thats what i normally use.

try lancome's stylo waterproof pencil liner - i was also looking for a pencil liner that would give a softer look and wouldn't disappear in a couple hours. i've tried lots of liners, and to me lancome is worth the $$

Meh. Not a big fan of liquid eyeliner.

Cover Girl's eyeliner pencils work fine for me, though I have used more expensive brands too that also worked fine... I wore liquid liner for competitions sometimes, but I'm not a big fan...

The reason why I don't like it is because it doesn't look subtle.

thanks for all the input, very helpful! I prefer pencils for their simplicity and ease of use, but I think I may try a liquid, because I'm tired of knowing that if I put on eyeliner and go to work, by the time I get home it will be smudged and barely noticeable.

i always put black eyeshadow over my eyeliner (i'm sure i'm not the only one), it makes it darker and softens up the line.it will smudge a bit, but usually it ends up looking like the "smokey eye smudge"that was a clumbsy sentence, but hopefully you understood me [Edited on December 22, 2005 at 4:17 AM. Try Revlon Colorstay (the kind the turns) i used in India and it stuck! It really holds on, and it's pretty inexpensive. Though if you're gonna smudge do it fast, it doesn't smudge very easily!

Mac- I use their waterproof pencil. I am not a fan of the liquid because it looks to harsh on me. If you keep it sharp, it will look great all day.It also washes off easy with soap.

Bare Escentuals (the stuff they have the infomercial for and sell on QVC). I've been using their makeup for a year and swear by it. You can get it locally at Ulta.

I love smashbox, you have to put it on with a eyeliner brush. It is expensive but I swear it will last all year. I think its a lot easier to get a straight line with the brush that goes with it to. Its also very blendable but it stays on all day.

Bobbi Brown gel-ink eyeliner. comes in a small jar, and you use a brush to apply it. so it's pretty much like using a pencil once you get the hang of it.or MAC cosmetics makes one very similar, calle fluidline. same idea: brush and small jar.both are tear proof, allergy proof, anything proof. you'll need eye make-up remover to get them off
