I absolutely promise you, you cannot top Second Empire here in downtown Raleigh.

With water and no alcohol/appetizers, it's like ~$25+ per plate, but I swear it's the most formal and DELICIOUS restaraunt you'll ever eat at. You won't believe how great the food tastes. The astmosphere is unbeatable. It will definitely impress your lady.

Let's just say this: I took my lady here before I proposed to her later in the evening, and now when we talk about she tells me she was thorough impressed w/ Second Empire. You can't go wrong w/ the place...I mean heck, she said yes

Its not exactly a dinner spot, more nightlife. I mean its doable for dinner but they do small portions, almost like tapas so it might be a bit different than you are expecting.

If you are interested in this style of dining then consider Zely & Ritz. Its in that little strip on Glenwood next to Sushi Blues. Fiance and I had dinner there late this summer and it was amazing. I had sesame roasted NZ rack of lamb with a butternut squash sauce and it was one of the best dishes I've ever had. Have read other reviews that praised different rack of lamb dishes so the chef must just have this nailed. They (husband and wife chefs that own it) do things a little different so its definitely an experience. We had eaten at their previous restaurant, Butterflies, and it was similar with the organic vegetables, mixing of savory and sweet, and so forth... I mean they had camomile and lavender ice cream as options for dessert. An awesome dessert at Z&R was this pine nut and rosemary tart with a caramel sauce and honey ice cream. I'm not usually a fan of savory desserts but it was definitely something I'd get again.

Sure, you'll get laid, but if you do things right, you'll get your brains fucked out... Believe me.

Second Empire is the best around...if you eat there for $25 per person like stated above, you're being a cheap ass. It usually costs us around $200 (so $100 a peice) when we go (that includes one bottle of wine, three course meals, and perhaps a glass of a desert wine with desert).

However, I'm sure it's already booked for New Years.

st. jacques...your lady will be like "DAAAAAAAAAAMN"

it's a very quiet/cozy restaurant and the manager is great...he'll come around and see how you're enjoying your meal and recommend a wine that will compliment both of your meals from start to finish

I'm sorry, some of us are actually non-North Face wearing, Land Rover driving, frat boy hangin', rich fags. Also, some of us don't drink alcohol nor do we need a 3-course meal to stuff our fat faces.

You can have an EXCELLENT time at Second Empire for less than $50-60/couple.

Try the Hooters near the airport.

The wine list is sub-par, but the atmosphere is fabulous.

melting pot.......it seems cliche but it's really the most romantic place I've been.....they treat you like you are a queen....and they have an EXCELLENT wine list. And the food is great.....especially the chocolate fondue.

The Peddler on Glenwood is great if your looking for romantic. We don't take reservations at all so you'll still have a great chance of getting in. There is usually a wait at the beginning of night (5-7) but then if usually dwindles down as people are trying to get to where ever they want to be as the ball drops. It's usually a pretty steady flow. You can't beat the prime rib, try it blackened with the tiger sauce. It's amazing. Will run around $25-30 a plate with out alcohol and appetizers. If you go for dessert try the Caramel Pecan Passion. Best dessert I've ever had.

Ooooh! Kudos to you for knowing that you are fat and knowing that you don't need 3 courses...if more people were like you then perhaps society would not be so obease. I'm impressed! Keep up the good work!

PS. Make sure to exercise a lot - diet alone will not help.

^ It's surprising you're in college. That was purely SARCASTIC. I'm saying that I can eat just an entree and get full. Why on fucking earth would you need THREE COURSES to fill YOU up unless you're a fucking ball of flesh?

...and you didn't catch the sarcasm in my reply. I did find it humorous that you called yourself fat though.

It's not that I NEED three courses, but when you go to a place like Second Empire, it should be an experience...most people spend hours there enjoying the food, and each other's company. They offer three course meals for a reason. I bet the waiters and waitresses get pissed when someone cheap comes in, get's a $50 meal and they get a small tip (even if it's 20% of the $50 meal). A 20% tip on $200 is what they usually get...

and by "we" I obviously mean "I"

i have no idea how the restaurant stays afloat, but as long as I'm walking with a bill every dinner shift, I frankly don't care how much money Carver's clears

Didn't even pay attention to the fact that you were doing this for New Years... You can forget pretty much any popular or decent restaurant. They will pretty much all have packaged dinners that include champagne and everything. Often its black-tie or semi-formal. The menus are usually preset and the package price is all-inclusive regardless of what you pick. Also, most are probably pretty close to full by now. I'm telling you, do the fondue at home. Its easy as shit, impressive, and tastes amazing. Plus you can take as long as you want with the courses and drink as much as you want and shag a bit in between. Here are reliable and easy recipes for cheese and chocolate fondues:
http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,,FOOD_9936_10245,00.html
http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,,FOOD_9936_10244,00.html
For the meat course we do one that is an asian style beef broth because we do not like using the oil.

If you do go to the Melting Pot, order the 100 year old Grand Marnier as an after dinner drink (assuming you are of age). $35.00 a glass (might be more now) but definitely worth it and can be shared by two.

If you want to spend $35 on a drink then make it a Johnnie Walker "Blue Label". Melting Pot has the highest wine price inflation I have seen in a restaurant (400% easy). If you do fondue, do it at home.

From the time I ate at Tavola Rossa the only thing there worth eating is the Canneloni. Everything else was average, definitely better Italian restaurants (and at a better price) in Raleigh.

if you act like it's a big ordeal to take a girl to angus barn, kanki (aside from the sushi bar), pf changs, melting pot, or ANYWHERE ON GLENWOOD, then you're pretty much saying, "hi, i'm nouveau riche and i don't have a membership to a country club nor do i know of any really great hidden spots... but i really want to show you that i'm trying."

and if she doesn't know any better, then it's a match made in heaven.

mistahubbs, check your PMs. sent you a few good joints.
