I know that it is just assumed among everyone that Mario will go pro after this year because there is no reason for him to stay around but has he ever said anything either way. Sorry if this is a repeated topic
12/19/2005 3:12:32 PM
official or your opinion?
12/19/2005 3:17:02 PM
There is no reason for him to stick around, except to get a degree and become a better player/dominate the ACC.
12/19/2005 3:18:12 PM
^Let's hope he does that.
12/19/2005 3:18:33 PM
rivers could of gone pro but he didnt
12/19/2005 3:19:28 PM
Rivers would have barely been a first round pick if he came out after his junior year. Mario is top 10 prolly right now so it might be different for him. He cannot go up much more.
12/19/2005 3:20:32 PM
I take that as "he hasn't said anything"
12/19/2005 3:23:23 PM
He hasn't - I'm betting Chuck has a gag order on him until after the bowl game.
12/19/2005 3:26:25 PM
12/19/2005 4:01:19 PM
well, he's got a massive house nowso don't expect him to be sticking around.
12/19/2005 4:24:39 PM
motherfucker is gone
12/19/2005 4:25:32 PM
massive house where?
12/19/2005 4:25:52 PM
Enjoy the bowl game bc it will be the last time you see Mario in a State jersey
12/19/2005 4:29:03 PM
Wouldn't that make him ineligible for the bowl game....[Edited on December 19, 2005 at 4:30 PM. Reason : ?]
12/19/2005 4:29:41 PM
He doesn't own a house in Wake Co.
12/19/2005 4:30:56 PM
12/19/2005 4:55:11 PM
Actually he is already talking with his agent. Heresy from college inn residents.
12/19/2005 4:57:38 PM
^^^Why aren't players allowed to get loans? And the house is in the process of being built.
12/19/2005 4:57:42 PM
I doubt he'd be the #1 DE taken. Kiwi will probably go higher. Likely first round though...
12/19/2005 4:59:38 PM
He doesn't own land yet (not arguing - just saying)And he better not have been talking to an agent.
12/19/2005 4:59:48 PM
^^ I dont think so, Kiwis stock fell this season and mario's at least stayed the same. Mario will go before him. and likely first round, if he fell to the second it would be one of the biggest steals that any team would get. If hes not a first rounder i will run around campus butt naked chanting go heels.[Edited on December 19, 2005 at 5:21 PM. Reason : ]

It's about 95% likely that Mario is going pro.And with that said, you better enjoy the "bowl game" this year, because we won't be attending one next year.
12/19/2005 5:27:56 PM
Remember the name: Drew Rosenhaus.[Edited on December 19, 2005 at 5:34 PM. Reason : no need for all that]
12/19/2005 5:30:42 PM
theres no way we will be any worse next year, you really think that a DE has that much effect on a team. I love Mario but its not like were losing a QB
12/19/2005 5:38:35 PM
2 things1. you guys keep saying probable first round, shit he will top 15 2. i definetily see us being worse next year, our defense will be equal to our offense meaning they will both be sucky
12/19/2005 5:43:24 PM
^that would be pretty hard to do...since we dont have one. our defense and rushing helped us win the games we won this year..that being said...i think well be better next year because of the qb position
12/19/2005 5:44:59 PM
^ if we get schaeffer
12/19/2005 5:46:08 PM
hes gonehes a top pick, he doesnt want to risk injury and the D next year wont be near as good, Bye bye mario
12/19/2005 5:59:01 PM
12/19/2005 6:21:38 PM
he should follow Matt Leinart and prolly Vince Young's examples
12/19/2005 6:23:05 PM
^^We have Willie Young, but really all i was saying was losing Mario wont compare to losing Philip. Will it hurt, hell yea, but i dont think we will be any worse next year. Do yall not realize how bad we were this year?[Edited on December 19, 2005 at 6:26 PM. Reason : ]

Mock draft I was lookin at today has Mario going with the 5th pick to the packers. They said
12/19/2005 6:27:19 PM
Willie Young has shown flashes, but he's still a little too thin and inexperienced to be an impact player next year, IMO. If Brooks comes back, He and Littleton Wright will probably be starting as of now.
12/19/2005 6:28:37 PM
12/19/2005 6:30:32 PM
^^^ link?I know that it's about that time of the year, I wanna actually follow a mock draft or three this year

We're gonna suck next year and every year after that until we can get some consistent o-line play. Not having a pass-rush is gonna hurt pretty bad as well. Amato's defensive schemes are very reliant on speedy pass-rushing DE's. go ahead and brace for a long season next year.
12/19/2005 6:57:10 PM
packbacker.....who is this peterson guy we lost? I knew about Green, but havent heard about Peterson.
12/19/2005 7:07:56 PM
Greg Petersonhttp://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=178&p=8&c=1&nid=1233721I believe he was 4* at one point, but for some reason Scout always drops players that dont qualify. We really really really loved both of them and brought them in together. He had quite a few offers, and I know he and Green were supposed to be the heir apparents to Mario and Manny. neither will ever make it, unfortunately[Edited on December 19, 2005 at 7:19 PM. 12/19/2005 7:18:21 PM
12/19/2005 7:19:29 PM
^^its probably a good thing that Peterson and Green didn't make it. We don't need any more idiots on our team.
12/19/2005 7:20:27 PM
I don't believe that our D-line will be that bad, granted we are losing the best pair of Defensive ends to play together in a long time, but we have Pressely, McCargo, and Tank Tyler all coming back on the inside. Our Linebackers and Safetys will be pretty good. Corners? Never can tell. With the inside of our line being as strong as it is look for the ends to do okay because they will not be the main focus of the line.
12/20/2005 9:17:37 AM
It is true that the ends won't receive all of the attention, which is great.... but it also means we'll have no pass rush. McCargo, Pressley, and Tank are more run stuffers. Pressley will probably be our best Pass rusher next year, and that's not a good thing. I'm just worried about teams running to the outside and overloading the smaller DE (Like UNC does every year to Manny). Not many people realize how well Mario shut down an entire side of the field. Manny held his own, but Mario was unbelievable. I'm just worried if we start inexperienced guys, they're just going to run side to side on us all day long. (And then throw it over the top becuase there's no pass rush)
12/20/2005 9:22:14 AM
If anything, we will be better against the run next year, because those guys should be better at filling the gaps. Manny & Mario are great & all, but they are not in there for run stopping. Some teams were able to take advantage of our smaller, quick line last year & run it up our throats. That should be less of a problem next year. Teams running to the outside shouldn't be a big problem either, because our LB's are pretty solid & quick.Where we will hurt is in the pash rush, but we will just use more LB blitzes than we had to this year.[Edited on December 20, 2005 at 9:53 AM. ^I seriously doubt we'll be bigger than Mario at DE. It's questionable whether our second DE will be bigger than Manny. Our DTs should be the same guys. I don't see where this bigger, more physical D-Line idea comes from, unless you think we are just going to put D Tackles at End, which is also very doubtful on a Chuck Amato defense.
12/20/2005 9:56:48 AM
^I actually was suggesting that we would move one of our DT's to DE. I think you play the best guys you have & our DT's are all too good not to play. I know that wouldn't be a typical Amato defense, but that doesn't mean it's not possible. I think it would work well as a kind of hybrid 3-4 type defense.[Edited on December 20, 2005 at 10:18 AM. ^Mario was a very good run stopper when the offense runs wide, because he could chase most anyone down, but stopping the run up the middle was not his strength, IMO. Many times the tackle would just push him outside & they'd run right by him though. I know we wouldn't have much depth there, but we're not going to be deep anyway you look at it.[Edited on December 20, 2005 at 10:44 AM. Reason : ]
