The legislature can do whatever it wants. It is up to the Supreme Court to decide what was or was not legal. Bring a case, I'm curious to see how it turns out

Of course, the Bushy needs to worry about being charged with tresspassing or something after it loses at the SCOTUS.

would it not be easier? how was it for Saddam? do you disagree or are you trying to infer, by posting that, that President Bush wants to overthrow the other two branches of government and establish a dictatorship with him having ultimate control?

and if you say that he, being the head Republican, has ultimate control, then perhaps you should have talked your boy John Kerry into supporting someone else who better represents the views of the Democratic Party to run for President...

...like Howard Dean.

you're giving a dishonest choice there. what I am saying by posting that quote is that george bush would like to be the dictator. It's a joke, of course, because it's more like cheney or one of their boys who would like to be the dictator. The point stands, however.

and i wish holward dean had been the candidate.

"Senator says she's asked for opinions on Bush impeachment
12/19/2005 @ 5:57 pm
Filed by RAW STORY

Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) has become the first in the Senate to raise consideration of impeachment of President George W. Bush for authorizing spying on Americans without warrants, RAW STORY has learned.

In a release issued this evening, Boxer said she's asked "four presidential scholars" for their opinion on impeachment after former White Housel counsel John Dean -- made famous by his role in revealing the Watergate tapes -- asserted that President Bush had 'admitted' to an 'impeachable offense.'

Boxer isn't the first congressmember today to float the word. Earlier today, Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) said Bush should be impeached if he broke the law in the spying program. The liberal California senator has tangled with Bush before -- earlier this year, she challenged the president's Ohio electoral votes."

I know of a certain Head of State who's praying to retain the House and Senate next November.

^ I second that notion. The sharks smell blood and are circling.

The question the Congress should ask though: do we really want a President Dick Cheney?

If they can try someone for getting a blow job, they can try someone for violating the civil rights of American citizens, I say.

John Dean basically said that Bush is the first sitting present to confess to committing a crime on national television.

well, once again, they tried him for lying about the blowjob. Nonetheless, yes, of course he should be impeached if he broke the law. He's broken tons of laws, but the proof for this one is outstanding.

"“For the last few days, I have witnessed the President, the Vice President, the Secretary of State, and the Attorney General repeatedly misrepresent the facts.

“The record needs to be set clear that the Administration never afforded members briefed on the program an opportunity to either approve or disapprove the NSA program. The limited members who were told of the program were prohibited by the Administration from sharing any information about it with our colleagues, including other members of the Intelligence Committees.

“At the time, I expressed my concerns to Vice President Cheney that the limited information provided to Congress was so overly restricted that it prevented members of Congress from conducting meaningful oversight of the legal and operational aspects of the program.

“These concerns were never addressed, and I was prohibited from sharing my views with my colleagues.

“Now that this issue has been brought out into the open, I strongly urge the Senate Intelligence Committee to immediately undertake a full investigation into the legal and operational aspects of the program, including the lack of sufficient congressional oversight.”"

^ Yeah, it's funny.

Bush tried the apologetic approach following Katrina, and his approval ratings still plummeted. I bet he's trying the opposite here to see if it helps him out any.

Who cares about the approval ratings anyway. It's not like he's going in for a third term in office. Besides, the last elections proved that majority of the opinions suck anyway

The whole point of having the responsibility to oversee something is to...well...oversee it.

Shrugging your shoulders and writing a post facto letter to bitch doesn't qualify.

I fucking love the defense of "Well I told SOME people!"

WHAT THE FUCK? Oh, you're supposed to go through a court, and you didn't, but you told a couple of senators, so that's all right?

why don't we wait for those old people in the robes to decide on whether the law was broken or not before we all go apeshit, ok?

Democrat strategy: Make broad generalizations with no basis in fact, and allow stupid americans to carry the lies around and stir public dissent. All the while covering up their own deceit and illegal activity (i.e.: Clintons using IRS to attack political enemies, Harry Reid's illegal campaign contributions, Pelosi's unregistered trips paid for by lobbyists)....

This whole issue is just so stupid. Probably any other administration could have at least linked Congress in with it to cover their political bases. The sheer lack of political savvy by the Bush administration is going to be its downfall.

And just what could he have done? He was legally prohibited from airing his concerns in public.

Simply being told what the NSA is doing by Bush, regardless of the law, does not allow for meaningful oversight.
