Hey guys, I'm wondering if yall have seen a problem like this:at highway speed (after 60mph) the needle of the rpm gauge swings rapidly between 3 and half and it's proper position (say, 2 and half). there's no change in the engine's noise. sometimes the car will jerk in a way that is similar to when it's shifting gear. Thanks!

sounds like a slipping transmission to me.

on my dad's old ass audi the speedometer needle used to bounce with about a 20 mph range (safe, huh?). It turned out that the little gears for the needle was partially stripped and didn't make contact right. but his car didn't jerk. of course, the jerking could be wholly unrelated to the tach needle. but it sounds like ^ will be true.
