I used to do sprint training in Asics. New Balance have always been good for longer distances.
12/12/2005 6:29:52 PM
Saucony
12/12/2005 6:41:45 PM
there is no BEST...it's whatever shoe fits your foot the best and provides sufficient dampening for you....with that said, I always trained in Asics or New Balance shoes.
12/12/2005 6:45:32 PM
asics for me.
12/12/2005 6:54:15 PM
Asics, New Balance, and Mizuno have always been my favorite for training. I had some Asics Gel Magic for racing and they were amazing.
12/12/2005 6:54:34 PM
more detail. what type of running?
12/12/2005 6:58:04 PM
ummm...about 4-6 miles 4x a week in the track in the gym...8-10 min/mile pace[Edited on December 12, 2005 at 7:06 PM. Reason : =]
12/12/2005 7:06:30 PM
lugs or timbs
12/12/2005 7:17:54 PM
go to the athlete's foot in cameron village. they'll analyze your stride and recommend a shoe based on how much you under/ over pronate. they also give 10% off to state students. i usually spend 80-90 bucks on shoes there, but its definitely worth it.
12/12/2005 7:27:05 PM
sperry

yeah, i had some Asic Gel Magic Racers a while back for road races...they were awesome. Here's what I wore:Training: Asics or New BalanceRoad Races: Asic Gel Magic RacersCC Races: Nike CC shoes (cleats).
12/12/2005 8:44:58 PM
if youre looking for support then i would recommend Brooks Adrenaline GTS shoes. they are made to help the over pronation and are the only shoes i can wear to run in to avoid pain in the feet and lower back.

idk what you mean by track running all i know is my nikes are what i use to run 6 miles a day in
12/13/2005 1:16:53 AM
had the most pairs of asics, then new balance, then 1 pair of brooks but they sucked.
12/13/2005 1:54:26 AM
The only time I wore New Balance shoes was when I was in basic training. Worst shoes I've ever worn in my life.
12/13/2005 2:04:57 AM
the cheap kind????
12/13/2005 2:28:51 AM
back when i was all hardcore in high school i just ran whatever felt comfortable. i've had like 4 pairs of gel kayonos (i think thats what they're called). The new balances were alright, but everything by nike sucks a fat one.

the chain stores will typically just have some highschooler that really knows nothing about running/stride/shoe styles.Go to inside out sports. http://www.insideoutsports.com . All of the people I trained with for my marathon (most of them were hardcore competitive runners/triathletes) swear by this store for shoes. They definitely have the most knowledgeable staff around.[Edited on December 13, 2005 at 10:59 AM. Reason : d]
12/13/2005 10:58:28 AM
inside-out sports has a poor selection of shoes. don't go there.as a triathlete, and a person that is sponsored by IOS, don't go there for shoes.
12/13/2005 11:03:44 AM
^where do you suggest?
12/13/2005 11:08:50 AM
Raleigh Running Outfitters - http://www.raleighrunning.com/Fleet Feet Carrboro - http://www.fleetfeetcarrboro.com/ (if you're around that area)
12/13/2005 11:12:07 AM
yeah, i definately dont suggest running that much on that shitty indoor track. You'll be posting on here in a few weeks "How do I get rid of shin splints?"
12/13/2005 11:18:13 AM
If you can get a copy of this past Saturday's News and Observer, they have a 25% off coupon in it for Omega Sports that you can use on their shoes...I plan on picking up some Asics running shoes with it, but I thought I'd mention it to help you save a bit of $$$
12/13/2005 11:32:57 AM
Then where should I run? Ive stayed inside for the climate control.
12/13/2005 12:13:02 PM
As a triathlete of sorts myself, I also highly recommend Raleigh Running Outfitters, everybody from my running club gets their shoes there. But I do go to Inside-Out sports sometimes just because they have a treadmill there where you can try out shoes, if you are into the indoor track thing. Also if you do go there, pick up a copy of the complimentary Endurance magaize, they usually have good coupons for various shoe stores like the ones mentioned above.

Recently switched to Brooks from New Balance and I couldn't be happier.Athlete's Foot in Cameron Village has a great shoe selection and employees who know shoes/running.[Edited on December 13, 2005 at 12:44 PM. Reason : .]

FWIW, I have completely flat feet and have had problems with support and pain in all New Balance and some models of Saucony, but the Asics I have now are a dream.

12/13/2005 1:32:18 PM
^ Give Brooks a try too. Both my fiance and I had similar problems and liked the Brooks ever so slightly over the Asics but both can't wear NB anymore. Specifically the Brooks Beast.http://worldfootbag.com/catalog2/show/1985[Edited on December 13, 2005 at 1:34 PM. Reason : link]

in a nutshell
12/13/2005 10:17:43 PM
you gotta just try that shit out and see what works for you
12/13/2005 10:32:48 PM
so...what is the ideal surface for running? 'outside' is kinda ambiguous.
12/14/2005 12:27:35 PM
Dude, just toughen up and go run outside. Outdoor track, grassy areas, sidewalk, pavement. They all work.
12/14/2005 12:54:35 PM
brooks makes a good shoe. probably the biggest difference is how long they last before wearing out.
12/14/2005 12:58:17 PM
runners world just named asics the best shoe to run in
