I'm hoping for an answer to this too. Finally moving up into a house and now I gotta shop around some for cable / internet. Anyone have any horror stories with any ISPs around here I should know about?

I've had earthlink for a year.First six months deal was 19.95$ _______ACTUAL PAYMENT: 26.32$ at 1.5MBsSecond six months deal was 39.95$_____ACTUAL PAYMENT: 46.32$ at 1.5MBsOther facts: Internet would stop working about 2 times per week for a period of 30mins to 1 hour every time there was a thunderstorm or heavy rain that week.I am about sick of it and am ready to get 5.0-8.0MBs speed and actually pay 8$ less per year.TWarner 180 +246 = $426 per yearEarthlink 156 +276 = $432 per yearTW for the win.

TW had problems going out for me and a bunch of others on this board. would be extra flighty for about 3-4 days and then work normal for a couple months. the bad days are of course schedule to be whenever you have a project due or something important to look at.

You people realize that Earthlink supplies cable internet access through TW right? All equipment/tech support should have come from TW, so essentially they were both the same, not to mention you are billed by TW.Speeds should have been the same to my knowledge, since they both use the same lines, and the same equipment. If TW upgraded the line to 5MB/s, the earthlink line should be the same, unless TW is rate limiting you.[Edited on December 12, 2005 at 4:18 PM. Reason : .]

TW and Earthlink use the same network, so I don't think there would be a significant difference in reliability. The difference would come in with the billing and customer service of each company. Also, I think Time Warner comes with AOL too, if that's a big deal to you.

Well TW actually handles all tech support requests and the billing for all Earthlink cable accounts

I don't know about Earthlink, but with Roadrunner, if your internet connection bothers you, you can bitch at them for a while and they will give you like 2 months for free.

up here, i'd say Earthlink over TimeWarner, simply due to cost. TimeWarner still installs and manages Earthlink though, but actual TimeWarner speed/up-time is consistently better.-ZiP!-
