Hi there! So, a little while back I got a speeding ticket doing like 53, which the cop reduced to 49, in a 40 on Centennial Parkway. The two a$$holes were sitting in one of those bus stops and I didn't even see then cause of the other car in the right lane and we both got pulled over. Anyway, this is my first ticket ever so I have no clue what to do. I know it's not gonna affect my insurance, but is there any chance I can be dismissed or anything like that, so I don't have to pay anything? Should I go to court before my actual court date to talk to the DA or just go on that day? Any of the ticket veterans have any suggestions or advice? Thanks!

if you want it completely dropped, better get a lawyer. james crouch has served me well. being the capital county, it's pretty hard for a regular citizen to just walk in and get it reduced further or dropped. they're logic is it's a win win situation... you don't get insurance points, and the da/judge/police are showing they're doing their jobs. government gets their money too.

Yeah, but paying for the lawyer would probably be more then paying the ticket. Being by less then 10 over does it affect anything, anywhere, anytime, though? Cause I heard I can do a prayer for judgment and have it dropped, but if it doesn’t count for anything then I don’t want to waste that.

yes, it still carrys license points. get another ticket, more license points which equals more insurance points. don't use a pjc for such a small ticket. besides, it'll just come back if you get another one.

OK, yeah, it has 2 points. But then why is everybody saying that if it's less then 10 over, it doesn't affect the insurance. I just did an Allstate quote with and without this ticket and it came up, for 6 months, as $240 without this ticket and $340 with it. I don't get it. [Edited on December 8, 2005 at 1:32 AM. If you read ^^ maybe you would have understood license and insurance points are different.

I understand that license points and insurance points are different. What I don't understand is why people say that a ticket for under 10MPH over would not affect the insurance, but when I did the Allstate quotes, the premiums were different for with and without the ticket. Even the cop, when he gave me the ticket, said that he did me a favor and dropped it to under 10MPH so it wouldn't affect insurance. Would anyone care to enlighten me? Thanks!

It usually does not affect insurance IF your record is otherwise clean for the past 3 years or so. My insurance company raised mine after a 64 in a 55 and it was the only ticket anybody on the policy had ever had. Anyways...go on th ecourt date and talk to the DA or whoever and they'll pretty much tell you what to do. DO NOT use your pjc for this, at worst get a lawyer and it will most definetly be dismissed.

That's b/c the tickets aren't reported to insurance. However if you self report it then they will hold it against you.

so let me get this straight. You got caught speeding on a road that everyone knows is HEAVILY patroled for speeders, the cop does you a favor by reducing your ticket on the spot, yet you still called him an asshole????WHATS UP WIT DAT?!?!?!?!
12/10/2005 2:51:54 AM
you got a 9 over first offenseno reason to get a lawyer, even if the da doesnt reduce it it doesnt really matter because its a 9 over first offense
12/10/2005 3:09:12 AM
I think it's understood that no-one ever gets pulled for 9-over, that all 9-over citations in the history of the world have been courtesy reductions from something ranging from slightly greater, to much greater (but with nice perky titties) than 9-over.
12/10/2005 7:26:03 AM
that would be incorrect
12/10/2005 7:54:28 AM
that would be quite incorrect. there are people out there who have been pulled over for less than 5 over, it IS still technically speeding.

I think what ^^^ is saying is that if you get a ticket for 9 over, it's more than likely it was already reduced by the officer. But I have a hard time believing that someone would get a ticket for under 5 over. First of all, even your speedo could be off by that much (and I'm not talking about a broken one) and also the guns have some error margins in reading the speed. But I guess if they are assholes, cops can do whatever they like. It's not like the judge would take your word over the cop's. And that's a scary thought right there. And just so I get it straight: tickets for 9 over don't affect insurance because they are not reported by the DMV? Can anyone else confirm that?

I got pulled for 5 over in a 45. A HP was behind me on harris blvd in charlotte. Followed me for about 3 miles. I turned into my neighborhood and he follows me and pulls me.HP: Do you know why I pulled you overME: Actually I have no clue why you pulled me overHP: License and registration please. Why are you not wearing your seatbelt?ME: Because I had to get my wallet out of my back pocketHP: I pulled you over because you were going a little over the speed limit for a few miles. Do you still live on linda lake? (looking at my license)ME: Well yeah I still live on linda lake (as I'm sitting at the corner of linda lake dipshit)HP: You need to slow down and go the speed limit. I'm letting you off with a warning this time...blah blah blah)ME: Thank you officer.

Wow, so how many speeding threads are there now? I would guess over 10+ all of them with the same advice. Try the search feature.[Edited on December 10, 2005 at 11:08 PM. Reason : .]
