i took it with chilton for credit, its an ok class, i got to hit a lot on upper miller field and in the nets. I thought putting was the best tho. If you need the book, i'll be selling it for 20 bucks. OBO. On improviing you game, lets say my furtherest before with a 9 iron was 100 yards with frequent digging, now i hit about 150 with a much better ratio of good hits to slices. email me at mattchiu138@triad.rr.com if you want the book~Matt Chiu

the course mainly deals with your short game. About the only time we would use drivers or long irons is if it was raining and we would hit them in the nets inside.

Golf is good, I've been playing it for years, but still learned some good tips from the teachers. If you're average at golf, take it credit only. When I took it, the requirements for an A were phenomenal; I took it credit only and would have gotten a B or B- just because of how I scored on the accuracy tests. I did okay on the putting tests, though.I took the "video" course with Patch and Ormond (I think it was his name). I'm not sure how someone could take golf through distance education, but it sure was funny seeing the TV guys follow you around with video cameras all through the putting green and on the field.

Hey. I just took Golf this semester... hoping that having someone coaching me again would give me that extra edge to finally beat my boyfriend next time we play... Boy was I wrong. I suppose that the teacher could make a difference. The class is really geared for true beginners even though the grading scales would make it nearly impossible for a complete beginner to pass if they didn't catch on pretty quickly and try really hard. The first part of the class you work on short game... i.e. putting on the green next to the gym (not the astro turf). This in and of itself is detrimental to your game because I have NEVER seen a green that played like that in the 5 years I've been playing. You do that for a couple of weeks, then take an 18 hole test that's set up like a little course, you two putt everything... you make an 85-90 (I know it was a 90 for girls, I'm not sure for the guys... they have it a lot harder in the class). Then you start playing on the upper IM fields, slowly moving back until you're 90 yards from the green. With your choice of club (pitching wedge, 9 iron, 7 iron) you play for a few weeks... with little or no instruction... just hitting about 2 small buckets of balls each day. Then the last week of class you'll take a test where you hit 10 times... and your proximity to the flag denotes your final score (50% of your grade). Another 10% is a giveaway... you just have to go and play at the University Club sometime during the available times. Then there's participation (i.e. you attend class, participate, and wear closed toed shoes). And then the written final which is pretty simplistic if you've played before. Anyway, sorry for the long answer. If you're looking for an easy to get through class that doesn't require dressing out and allows you to practice on your own, then take Golf for credit only. If you're wanting to actually improve... well, I doubt I'd go for golf at NCSU. The practice could help you improve... or just further solidify any bad habits. My partner had never really played before, and since I had been on a team I had worked with people before... so I tried to help her out as much as I could. But when it came to the final she still didn't do well because we had stopped practicing because of the rain and she'd lost the whole idea of rotation. She ended up making something like a 20 on the short irons test which was 50% of our grade. If you decide to take the class, I've got the book that I'll sell you. It was really hard to find it used this semester... and my teacher required that we have it. Just don't expect to learn a whole lot unless you put in a lot of effort yourself.

lol 2 putt every hole for a b. some of the guys on my HS golf team would be screwed if they had to do that.all i know about nc state gold is that coach sykes is a dick. he wouldnt even let me try out. i called him up and asked him if i could try out in the spring and he said "sorry we only have tryouts in the fall." then i call him to try out in the fall and he says "sorry the team's full this semester. we'll have tryouts in the spring though." i talked to a guy from the course i normally play at home who played for a division II school, who said he was a complete jackass who was just there to babysit the team. i was an all-conference player HS and might be of some benefit to the team, but he wont even let me try out. what a dick. no wonder our golf team sucks.

I took the golf class this semseter and it helped me some. I had a swing coach help me get my swing correct in the summer. The class at first was so drilled into people who haven't picked up a club that I just didn't pay attaction to his swing and worked my own way. The putting green on the side of the gym sucks for putting. Somehow i think my putting is worst then it is now. but what really helped was on the upper miller fields with the chipping from different distances away. Before I would dive 310 and leave the ball 30 yards short of the green and I had no clue how to swing or how hard to hit the ball. The class gave me a chance to pratice those shots. I would recomend it as a class for credit only. The skills test is very hard, aka the green sucks ass and is completely random and unreadable![Edited on December 5, 2005 at 3:32 PM. Reason : .]
