The SetupA laptop and a desktop are networked together on a Cisco router using Road Runner. The ProblemThe desktop was connected without issue until a couple days ago, when it began to experience intermittent connection disruptions. Troubleshooting revealed that rebooting the system usually fixed the problem...until about half an hour ago. Now, the laptop is connected and is having no connection issues at all, but the desktop isn't connected. The Network Connection on the Control Panel says the connection is active, but it won't let me renew the IP address to repair the connection. The problem appears to be specifically linked to AIM, and specifically within the last half hour or so. I've rebooted several times and found that the Internet works just fine upon rebooting (Web pages load and everything), but once I connect to AIM and try to send a message, it's all over. Once I click "Send" to send someone an IM, the option greys immediately. That's when I lose connection to AIM and can no longer view Web pages.Any help would be greatly appreciated.[Edited on December 3, 2005 at 2:10 AM. Reason : weirdest problem ever]

I take it you've tried uninstalling and re-installing AIM?Does the problem persist if you try alternates to AIM, such as gAIM or Trillian?

Model number and config would be nice.

I reformatted a little early this year. All is well.
