I searched for "seafood" and for "sea" and "food" without getting a hit on this topic. I know Red Lobster serves seafood (duh) but is there any place around here that's not so ... mediocre? I'm not impressed by their seafood, but maybe I'm just spoiled from growing up next to the Chesapeake Bay.

well, you do have to get off glenwood before you drive into Kemp's parking lot... you can see it on the road though.

Michael Dean's is a really good seafood restaurant as well. A little pricey.

Bonefish Grill in Cary (off harrison ave) was good. It was $20ish a plate for the good specials and the portions were big and the food fresh. was also one listed for six-forks. probably by the new north hills.

http://triangle.citysearch.com/profile/38931286/cary_nc/bonefish_grill.html

http://www.triangle.citysearch.com is a good way to find restaurants.

I go and click seafood and get this:

It might be better to say what seafood restaurants have the best what seafood. Some are good at crap and lobster, others at types of fish.

Bonefish had to shutdown a little last year because of a hep breakout. I didn't eat there after that.

42nd street is pretty good. If you really want good seafood, travel to wilmington or Morehead City. But DON'T GO TO SANITARY. That place sucks.

come to new orleans

in nc, bonefish is alright. there is a pretty inexpensive place up on 70 past 540 that is good. if you want really good fried seafood, drive down to calabash, nc.

I like the bottomless hush puppies at seafood restaurants in NC. We didn't get that in NH. I like Kemps but theres a seafood place close to campus. I can't remember the name buts its off of Wilmington St (hmm is that what its called... I move away from the area and I already forget). You know go down Tryon turn left on Wilmington then its right there on the right.

captain stanley's seafood on highway 70 towards garner.....

Used to be the best back when captain ran the place...

They sold it though -- still good seafood, but the service isnt what it used to be.

I worked there for 5 years

"meal for 2" -- clam chowder, 2 sides each(awesome brunswick stew), shrimp, flounder oysters, scallops, clams.... you pick like 5 or 6 i think from a long list. about 22 bucks for two people.

And the hushpuppies are perfect

seafood around here implies fried - head to the farmer's market for that

sounds like you're a chain person...the only sit-down chain people can drag me to is bonefish, the quality of the food is a lot higher than the price or aesthetic would have you believe

go for the grouper, always the grouper

Mayflower is AWESOME when they have the fried shrimp special (Tuesdays at the one in Winston). $2.99 for a massive plate of shrimp, hush puppies, and a side.

calabash is just code for fried

if you strike out for calabash and just keep heading south, eventually the seafood gets better - and less battered

actually, a surprising number of raleigh's clubs serve very good seafood. The Underground- grouper, black snapper, swordfish, scallops, menu changes every night. Charlie Goodnights- pretty decent salmon. Evoo- Red/Black Snapper, Tilapia, Muscle's. menu changes pretty regularly. Moe's Diner and Humble Pie- both have awesome yellowfin. Vic's Italian- basicly any shellfish/pasta combo their is great, espcially the clam dishes.

I would post locations of these places, but I'm lazy, most of them are within 10 minutes driving distance of NCSU.

Everybody that says Kemp's probably hasn't been to Captain Stanley's...
They are both awesome, I just go to Captain Stanley's because it is local (in garner) and a lot closer to me.
The service is still awesome considering the original owners sold it. I went last saturday night after the football game and had great service...

wow. that's really funny because in National Geographics Chesapeake Bay issue that came out this summer, they revealed that only about 5% of seafood sold around the Bay area is from the the Chesapeake.... The rest is all imported from Vietnam. You can thank pollution and over-fishing for this.

Conclusion: you're a fucking moron and while you ARE a spoiled bitch, you're certainly not spoiled by fresh seafood.

Oh really? Is that why my fav seafood place back home I WATCHED pull in to the docks and unload the day's catch? I only went there twice because it was horrifically expensive ... but OMG was it ever good. I've been to similarly reputed places and haven't had anything that good. Not every seafood place on the coast actually has fresh catch, but I would think by association if the chefs are good at their jobs they can still make it taste good regardless of where it's from or where the restaurant is.

I don't know where you get the idea that I'm spoiled, since everything I have right now my husband and I have earned together. It's more like a book vs. a movie: if you've read the book and enjoyed it, you probably won't like the movie. Once you've had really, really good seafood, it's hard to go back to the frozen stuff.

to Ihatespida: I never said Raleigh's seafood sucks, because I've never been to a seafood place around here. All I said was Red Lobster sucks. Please, get the facts straight before you start whining. Plus I didn't know you knew I was from the coast... [stalk]?

to everyone else who has posted useful info - thank you - I now have a good list to start from I had totally forgotten about 42nd street to be honest. On that note, I've heard that "real" Italian places serve seafood as part of their dishes - I read the menu at 518 West and I'm interested - anyone been? ANyone been that doesn't like seafood? My husband hates even the smell of it ... comments on these other places listed is also appreciated ( listed here in the order I locate them through the thread ):

* Kemp's
* Farmer's Market (is it raw or cooked? I only went once, and it was for berries.)
* Michael Dean's
* Bonefish Grill
* 42nd street
* Mayflower
* Earp's
* captain stanley's
* Sunnyside Oyster Bar
* Fins
* Lanes
* The Underground
* Charlie Goodnights
* Evoo
* Moe's Diner
* Humble Pie
* Vic's Italian
* Jezebel's
* Stonewood Tavern

Personally, I like shellfish, although mussells really aren't my thing. Scallops, clams, oysters, shrimp, crab, lobster, etc. I'll eat in various ways. Clams and oysters I can't handle unless they're breaded and fried ... and softshell crab i can't handle either ... after dissecting stuff in biology in HS I'm kinda wussy about those Fish - I've had salmon (not a fan, maybe it wasn't cooked right?), tilapia, cod, and whitefish. I've never really tried others, but I'm open grilled/baked would be nice; although fried is tasty, fish is supposed to be a healthy item, and I'm trying to avoid that extra temptation.

yea, as fresh fish would be anywhere in the freakin nation.

as i said, growing up next to the chesapeake bay didn't spoil you; dropping too much cash at a restaurant spoiled you.
