What's the best way, other than a body shop, to get a dent (1 foot in diameter) out of a front fender on a new VW? No body shop.

find the same fender from a salvage yard, then bolt off and bolt on. though im sure probably someone with actual proffesional experience can give better advice.bondo would be cheaper...but its harder for the novice. but a 1 ft dent may be too large for bondo depending on depth

would pulling the dent be possible?

it might be possible, provided none of the dent intrudes upon a roled part of the fender.any creases or anything like that through the middle of the dent?otherwise as mentioned above, just get a large piece of wood or something, put behind the dent and tap it out, maybe use a rubber mallet on the metal itself if its being difficult.since its in the fender be prepared for it not to look perfect when youre doneor go find one at a junkyard, costs a little more, but saves you lots of time
