actually quads play, not para's.I'm somewhat bias. I'm a quad who functions/looks like a para. I'm just curious if anyone else saw it and what they thought of it.

I saw it. one of the most enjoyable and entertaining movies I saw all year.

quad·ri·ple·gi·a n. Complete paralysis of the body from the neck down.If they (or you) are completely paralyzed from the neck down... then they aren't going to be playing any sports that involve anything. You can't be a quad that functions like a para... if you have functioning arms, then you're a paraplegic.

^....I don't know where you got that definition from but it couldn't be more wrong. My spinal cord injury is at C 6/7. Cervical injuries are quads. Injuries of the thoracic, lumbar, and sacral vertebrae = paras. When people think quads they think Chris Reeve, but quads vary greatly in the amount of function/sensation that they have. Google these three words: Justin Richardson PronueronI think I know what I'm talking about.

I learned a lot about the whole issue (issue meaning the medical classifications) of being a quad after spending time with the ex's family and Mark's dad over the summer. Unfortunately I never got to meet the guy before we split. He spent most of the summer doing publicity and shit for the movie. Still got him taped from Leno.

i don't think it's that unreasonable to trust a dictionary for the definition of quadriplegic and paraplegic. hell, it's what i would have done. but i wouldn't call out someone out on it who obviously has personal experience in the matter.

I got that definition from dictionary.com. Address all complaints to them.Alls I know is that the prefix "quad-" often indicates an association with the number '4'this is from http://www.sci-recovery.org... which I was referred to by webmd.com:

Again, all spinal cord injuries are different. Some quads have ZERO arm and hand function. Other quads have somewhat normal (in most areas) arm and hand function. Take me for example, I'm a C 6/7...I'm not supposed to have tricep muscles and my hands should be missing several key muscles as well. However, my biceps should be in tact. Like I said, the extent to which people are paralyzed depends totally on the injury level (and even then, the degree of paralysis can vary).Centimeters up or down the spinal cord mean the difference between being completely independent (like I am) and being completely dependent on caregivers or family for survival. You get the point. My hands and arms are basically "normal", however I did have an experimental procedure performed 10 days after my injury in Tel Aviv, Israel that has benefitted me tremendously. I have had great neurological return. So....technically, I am a neurological quad (some of the neurological issues of being a quad still apply to me) but I am for the most part a functional para (with several exceptions here and there). If you want a better explanation, google the words I mentioned above: Justin Richardson ProneuronThere should be quite a few news articles that pop up concerning my injury and my trip to Israel.

yeah, I read some of the articles and I see what you're saying. Spinal cord injuries are definitely more complex than two non-technical terms can summarize. I just feel that, semantically moreso than technically, quadriplegia suggests paralysis of four limbs. That's just based on the etymology. I'm not trying to belittle the trauma you've been through at all, I just think the definition of the two words makes more sense as a functional discrepancy than a technical one, if you follow my meaning.

isn't "murderball" the japanese translation for "dodgeball?"
12/1/2005 4:34:31 AM
^...not sure about that. Canadians started the sport and from what I know, it was called "murderball" because they were making each other bleed so much while playing. The original chairs weren't as protected as the ones that I'm playing in today. How do I embed a wmv file? There a short clip of a nasty hit that I'd like to post in here...poor guy goes flying out of his chair.

you cannot embed unless you are premie, you can however link to the file if it is saved on a server
