unless you have a wonderful good reason for not opening up itunes and dragging files into it as opposed to windows explorer suck it up - "omfg i don't want to use apple's product" doesn't cut it as a valid excuse - you can drag and drop into itunes and it handles everything for you as far as playlists/converting filenames/organizing for quick searching of files[Edited on November 29, 2005 at 1:06 AM. i can't stand the program, i can't copy files FROM ipod to pc. it's response time is sorta slow, want a non-bloated alternative.don't question the motives, just answer with software that will do what i want.
11/29/2005 1:07:47 AM
are you saying that an application reading off of an external device is slow? okand you can copy files from ipod -> pc - but the way they are organized on the ipod is different than they are in your typical folders due to id3 tags being heavily used
11/29/2005 1:09:48 AM
whenever i drag and drop my folders it adds all songs twice. go go itunes and m3u

Just don't install iTunes and interact with you iPod via Windows Explorer. FYI, there is a really nice iPod plug in for winamp.

Didn't like the iPod plugin for WinAmp. Kept having issues.Get EphPod or SharePod (runs on the iPod itself).http://www.ephpod.com/http://www.sturm.net.nz/website.php?Section=iPod+Programs&Page=SharePodI use both on 3 different computers for my iPod. http://www.mediafour.com/products/xplay/This program is great, and works exactly like you want (integrates with Windows Explorer), but it's not free (but it's worth it if you really hate iTunes that much). It has a demo, so you can try it before you buy it.[Edited on November 29, 2005 at 4:02 PM. why the fuck wouldn't you use ituneshow much easier can it get
11/29/2005 5:02:26 PM
drag and drop is easier than iTunes
11/29/2005 5:16:35 PM
There are several more ways other than iTunes to get files to your ipod. iPodSync is one of those programs, but it isn't free. These programs aren't as bloated as iTunes.

11/29/2005 5:49:57 PM
How the hell are you supposed to do playlists with drag and drop?
11/29/2005 6:28:31 PM
he probably already has the lists created.he doesn't want to use itunes because it sucks balls.Even if its just installed and you aren't even using it it makes your computer feel fucking dirty. Its fucking retarded that he can't just drop all the music into one folder on the ipod via explorer and have the ipod find the songs.I mean even if he doesn't have playlists shouldn't the ipod be smart enough to sort based on id3?Its not done b/c apple can't do it, its done b/c they want you using itunes and the store.
11/29/2005 7:21:40 PM
^ ID3 tags don't solve anything. The iPod already can sort by genre, artist, song title and album. All of these things aren't playlists as much as they are queries.Managing playlists without using software could get a little too tedious ...And seriously - iTunes is unbelievably easy. Most everything is just a click or two away.

who cares if itunes is easy to use. its a buggy, bloated, piece of crap. The option to be able to simply drag stuff to the drive an have it play should be an option.

So Im interested in getting a Ipod Nano but of course Im stuck in the dark ages using WIN98SE so Itunes is not an option. Ive downloaded ephpod v2.58 so I know that will be the program I can use however this is my question. Ive read in a few places about "formatting" the ipod for first time use and that I might need to do this on a WIN xp machine....update useing some installer and then erasing the software. I have no clue what they are talking about. Do I need to hook my ipod up to a WIN XP machine to get it formatted correctly the first time?? Ive also been reading a bunch about having to install usb Drivers to get things operating first even with ephpod. any one familiar with this??? I think its because if I use the USB port my computer wont see it as a "Drive". I really should get a new computer but Im trying to wait till Vista is a little more stable and available on computers.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------[Edited on January 24, 2006 at 6:02 PM. I use Ephpod and vPod, but I have a question for you guys who use Ephpod. Is there a way to copy more than one "directory" at a time? I use it to get music at work and put it on my computer at home, but it seems like you can only do one album at a time. Do I just need to play around with it more?BTW, copying files directly from the iPod results in cut off file names. Ephpod renames the files using ID3 tags.

^^^^^dude you are going to spend $150-$250 on an ipod nano but you can't upgrade to XP? thats pretty weak dude.[Edited on January 25, 2006 at 10:47 AM. Reason : ^][Edited on January 25, 2006 at 10:48 AM. Reason : or just wait until you get a new computer to get an ipod]

^^ I'm not sure of any way except to select files and copy them. I don't think it lets you select multiple artists, unfortunately

if my mom can use and enjoy (ie, fast, no crashes, bugs, quirks, etc) itunes, so can you
1/25/2006 1:51:40 PM
I didn't say I can't. I said I wanted to wait a few months for Vista to come out. whats the point of getting a computer with XP now when i will have to upgrade the damn thing in a little bit. Im getting both. I would just rather enjoy the music now rather then later. Thanks for all the PM that answered my questions. USB is 1.1 which i know is slow. Im guessing about an hour to download songs the first time. After that it wont be that bad

For transferring multiple folders from the iPod to the computer look into SharePod.http://www.sturm.net.nz/website.php?Section=iPod+Programs&Page=SharePodEasiest way using that is it have it transfer a playlist with what you want transfered.

http://www.lifehacker.com/software/feature/hack-attack-the-selfsustaining-ipod-151662.phpBy the end of this little tutorial, you'll be able to rip a CD, sync the MP3s to your iPod, then play any music off your iPod from any computer without ever having to install anything on that computer - and not once will you have to open iTunes to do it.That's right - add MP3s from any computer. For example, if your SO insists on ripping MP3s on her laptop rather than straight to your shared library, you can still easily sync her MP3s to your iPod. Or maybe you're on a public computer and you're eager to rip and import the CD you just bought to your iPod. Without installing any software on that computer or ripping any MP3s to its hard drive, you can rip and sync your new CD to your iPod.What you'll need:
