I visited Paris quite a number of years ago... around 8 to be more exact... but it was during the Spring. I was thoroughly disappointed by Paris, but it was Rainy and dreary almost the whole week. The place as a whole just wasn't very appealing. (But i'm a Spanish fan myself... If I could have spent the entire two weeks in Spain I would have! :-D)Enjoy your New Years... it should be a very enjoyable one for you

I was there for New Years 2002, the day the euro was introduced, so they had all kinds of celebrations for that. I would suggest going down to the Eiffel tower, as we were up around Sacré Coeur and it was so foggy we couldn't see the fireworks too well, but if its a clear night, up there would be nice too. Afterwards there were people partying everywhere obviously, and it actually got pretty wild especially in the red light district (saw a couple fights, and the normal drunken people screaming at passing cars, etc). All in all, definitely my best new years ever, have fun!

I went to the Eiffel Tower on New Years two years ago. There were riots, we got tear gassed, and spent 6 hours hiking/busing to clichy back to our hostel. I wouldn't trade it for anything, but definitely be careful of where you go, and know your surroundings. Try not to dress like a stupid american tourist. The Champs Elysse (sp??) was left without windows in the fashion district. Pretty ridiculous to see first hand.

Be careful not to get pissed on. Seriously. Don't let some guy hump your leg either.

The only problem with Paris is that it's full of French people.
11/29/2005 8:33:44 AM
i didn't even mind the french peoplei imagine it would be quite fun for new years

11/29/2005 9:00:08 PM

meh, Paris sucks.I'll be in London this year for christmas and new years.
12/1/2005 1:45:50 AM
ya italy as a whole was way cooler than france. paris was my least favorite

I was in Paris last winter (during Christmas). It was SO FREAKING AWESOME... of course I love cold, windy places (it was in the 20F - 30F range). The people there were cool, everyone was dressed up (on champs elysees), and you're makin me so jealous! Le tour-eiffel will be packed, of course, on jan 1st. Just make sure you know how to get back to wherever you need to be from wherever you're planning on going... trying to figure out the metro at 3 am while drunk on some random street while it's frigid isn't that good of an idea.
12/1/2005 2:05:40 AM
almost all the hostels are already booked, and the ones with openings are charging 60-140 per bed per night on the 30th and 31styea i hate figuring out the paris metro.. actually i hate all metros. prague was the worst

You suck at life.

Yeah I would recommend London.. not at all biased (live in London!).. we know how to party here.. am sure the guys in Alexander would testify to this...Paris is nice though.. worth a visit.. but nowhere like London for New Year... plus our licensing laws changed last week... pubs and bars used to close at 11pm but are now allowed to stay open 24 hours... sweet

ive been to london and paris numerous times before, just never for new years evelondon doesnt really interest me. neither does canadathe only reason i'll be in Paris instead of Nice for new years is because i have to wait a couple days before easyjet flights come down in price before flying south
