If he likes nothing more then graphics, go for it. If he is looking for gameplay, I get the idea that this isn't the sort of game he would want.

ww2 shooters (and the like) are real hit or miss. i personally am not a big fan.

Exactly, stick to the main genres like rap-star-endorsed shooters or pop-star-endorsed fighting games. These are always big with the critics.
