We aren't allowed to use calculators on tests in ECE 200 and 206. Is this also true for higher level classes in Engineering, or does it depend on the professor? Thanks.

I never had any CE classes that didn't allow me to use a calculator... could be those are core ECE classes where they want you to learn the material instead of just programming everything into your calculator.

if you need them, you will be able to use them. for the most part, if a teacher gives you a test where a calculator isn't allowed, then you don't need it...and vice versa. but thinking back...211, 220, and 301 were math intensive with no calculator. 302, 303, 305, 402, and 407 caculators allowed. and 212 and 406 no calc needed or allowed. thats just off the top of my head, i could be mistaken, its been awhile

I think in 211, 212, and 301, they won't let you use a calculator. It just depends on the instructor and the course - if you're trying to draw the frequency representation of a cosine (i.e. 301-ish stuff) a calculator isn't going to help much; yet if you're trying to compute the delay in a wire via Elmore Delay (i.e. ECE 746), it's nice to have something crunch a bunch of numbers really fast for you.

other than calculus classes, i've always been allowed a calculator on exams

In 301 this semester w/ Alexander, calculators are allowed and almost useless.

Dr. Silverberg in MAE was the only professor I have had who didn't allow calculators on his tests. They were allowed on all other assignments. The tests usually didn't need them though because the test was more to test that you knew the process of how to solve something more then getting the right answer. I think it largely depends on who your professor is.

i didnt even get a graphing calc until 2nd semester soph year, and that was for 211 (to solve eqns with matrices)..cuz we were never allowed to use one. I've taken 303 and i'm in 422 with alexander now, and programming those large formulas is the best thing ever...i definitely recommend it! Some people have been saying 89's are useful for some of the tricks he pulls, but my 83+ has done the trick for any ECE (and stat) math i've had to do. (so far )

in ece422 w/ alexander you *need* that calculator.

my last CSC226 test was no calculator and we had to multiply out any numbers less than 12! which is like 500,000,000fuck that shitI haven't multiplied numbers by hand in a decade.

Lets see when I took them(ECE courses), calculators:200, 220, 301, 303, 306, 492V, 407; no calculators: 206, 211, 302; don't remember: 212, 406They are normally only really useful for dealing with messy decimals.

when i took ECE 200 and 206 im pretty sure i was able to use calculators, but if i remember correctly theyre not really necessary for 206i had townsend (200) and byrd (206)
