hmm well tonight I broke a bolt off another thermostat housing because I was too impatient to wait until the hardware store opens up tomorrow so I could buy new bolts. So i overtorqued a brittle ass 16 year old bolt.

almost falling down with the bike at a stop light when making a stop and going to make a turn. I put my foot in a pothole and didn't realized it until the bike started to tip over. I recovered, but took like 2 mins with cars behind me beeping in rush hour traffic. That was last week.

Not lowing the rear end enough when removing shackles and having the spring almost demolish my hand when it snapped up after I yanked the bolt out.

hahhahahaha....

i think, for me, it was when i forgot to re-torque some lugs after working on my rabbit. i realized it soon after when it made that "wompa-wompa" sound and wobbled/shook like hell as i was driving it

Not me, but my girlfriend was too busy talking on her cellphone to remember to roll up her rear windows and close her sunroof when she went through and auto carwash. The inside of that car wreaked for weeks.

I've got a couple.

1st I let someone else change the oil in my wifes car when I lived in an apartment. Then they didn't drain the oil before adding new oil. Yeah, that's not good... pop goes the oil pump seal.

When changing the timing belt on my car I also replaced the valve cover gaskets and the crappy screws and gromets. But to get one screw in I had to remove the distributor. Not so bad except I forgot to check TDC when putting it back together. Took several hours before I figured out what I did. I thought I might have slipped the cam pulley and ruied my valves/pistons because it actually ran but would go over 1k rpms.

Oh and number 3... I financed a new car. will never do that again.

havent had the problem with the hawk tipping over yet (prob. bc it's relatively light). that used to happen to me a lot on the gsxr probably bc it was my first bike also.

i was parking where everyone parks on state campus near harrleson and right by that greenhouse. i was putting my foot down but the bike was on an incline (that sewer thing right in front of the bike parking) and the bike started to tip and my foot started to slide. lol i love when bikes tip over bc your like NOOOOO and you muster up all your heart to get that fucker back up..

well i did but a bunch of ppl were walking by and i felt embarrassed as hell.

i've seen other kids almost drop their bike there just last week.

probably putting a clutch disc in backwards. it's definitely the one that's caused me the most extra work/headache.

changing oil in a buddies buick, had the ratchet going for tighten instead of loosen...

didnt round off the bolt though, given that it was a shitty set of tools i sheared the adapter we were using, no idea how i twisted a piece of steel off itself like that but it happened...

didnt have another adapter handy so the project was put on hold till we could get my tools...

needless to say i double check which way the ratchet goes now...

Got a little too happy with the gas driving my old Malibu up onto a set of ramps to change the oil. Ran the tires clean off the front and ended up with the ramps sitting under the frame rails. Had to jack the car up to get 'em out.

I was changing my oil and I didn't have an oil filter wrench so I decided to use a belt (like a strap wrench.) As I was pulling up as hard as I could, the belt snapped and I punched myself in the nose. Shit hurt like hell!

I was changing my oil with the car on ramps, and I forgot and left the (full) used oil container under the passenger front wheel. I backed down off the ramp, and the damn thing exploded all over the car next to me

I tried to tighten a cam cap bolt (14ft-lbs torque spec) with a 150ft-lbs torque wrench (only one I had) and snapped the bolt when the wrench didn't click. Then I left it at the house and ASSumed my dad would be smart about drilling it out for me when I gave him the OK.

1. I decided to let my girlfriend swap out her own oil filter. Due to the location of the oil filter, I could not see it, but I could feel it, so I made sure it was nice and tight. It was nice and tight allright, but she had put it on crooked, and when she started up the car oil sprayed everywhere.

2. I dropped a bolt into an exposed hole in my transmission once. I had to take off the transmission just to get it out.

Once on the bike in a parking lot showing off doing burnouts and wheelies(yes on the harley) I hit gravel and droped it almost hitting a pickup....., then immedently picking it up....messed up my back for weeks!

And of course driving a car off a lift when I was a Mechanic, i was in too much of a hurry and did not check the width of the driveup

oh, if we're counting dumb things done while driving, i'd have to say the time when C16H3O2CL and I were on our way out to Johnston County to ride, and we got bored while droning down 401.

We started doing highway wheelies (no traffic around)...One of us would wheelie for a while and pull ahead, then slow back down to regular pace, then the other guy would wheelie for a while and catch up...

well, I was doing a 110 mph wheelie to catch up with Chad, and I was closing on him a lot faster than I realized. When I saw how fast I was closing on him, I landed it and grabbed the brakes HARD (locked the front tire at prob 90 mph) and my front tire lightly tapped his rear tire at about 75 mph...throwing me into a mega-tankslapper and causing me to wreck.

It was just cosmetic damage, though...I picked it up, cursed at it, and rode for 2 more hours...haha

I don't really remember what my dumbest wrench moment is offhand...nothing too catastrophic, i dno't think. nothing stands out in my mind.

3, and wrecked one of them twice. only one wreck resulted in more than cosmetic damage, though (well, maybe broken off mirrors/levers and windscreens and stuff, but i count that as cosmetic damage)

plus some dirtbikes and ATVs and stuff, but those don't really count.

first week working in a shop ever I drove a volvo off the alignment rack crooked, that was interesting. But a better story was the time I was checking out these two blond girls while I backed this old civic off the lift a little tooooo far, and crunch

next think i know i was getting the phone number to the junkyard to buy some civic tailights.
