11/21/2005 8:00:04 PM

11/21/2005 8:10:52 PM
been waiting two weeks to get some questions answered and get some setup stuff changed that he said he'd look into.
11/21/2005 8:31:24 PM
i think he may have fallen off the face of the earth
11/27/2005 10:35:49 PM
they suck at business... ive been trying to add a domain for weeks and they dont respond...I have found 1and1.com and dreamhost to be super reliable and dreamhost has a good deal right now too... pm me if you need info.
11/27/2005 11:32:46 PM
I can vouch for dreamhost... they're cheap and reliable, plus you get a shitload of storage/bandwidth/domains/etc for a real cheap price. you can search slickdeals to find the coupon code to get your first year for like $20 or less.I don't have a website there yet, but I use it for reliable IMAP email
11/28/2005 11:15:59 AM
I'm going elsewhere real soon. My 1 yr expires in mid December. Dreamhost seems nice and if I find a good code.
11/28/2005 11:45:23 AM
yeah i think i might switch real soon here toomine expires in december and i haven't heard from john in forever
11/28/2005 11:54:20 AM
same here.... maybe for all 9 or so of the sites that I help manage, and recommended for Progress. That dreamhost looks almost too good to be true. For $8/month you get 4.8GB, which increases weekly by 40MB, and bandwidth of 120GB increasing by 1GB/week? How can that be true?
11/28/2005 12:11:05 PM
they can offer it because they know that most of their customers don't use that much. I'm up to like 5300+ MB of storage and 135GB of bandwidth. This month Ive only used about 1.2GB of bandwidth, so its probably safe to assume that most people will do that too.one neat feature is that they just started allowing you to host unlimited domains and subdomains. I think you get 1 free when you sign up, and then you can transfer the rest over. Also you get unlimited mysql databases. They do monitor mysql usage, but isn't a problem unless you've got a gigantic site with heavy usage
11/28/2005 12:16:01 PM
yeah, i guess they're taking the Google/Gmail approach. Give the user's virtually unlimited storage and bank on 90% of them using <10% of their allotted storage. Then monitor the overall usage and add cheap hard drives when necessary.
11/28/2005 12:20:52 PM
I think their deal just stopped.. so now its regular prices, unless I am mistaken.OOOpss... i think the deal is still on from what someone else told me.... put in promo code 777 when you select the one year crazy domain insane package with no setup fee.http://www.dreamhost.com/r.cgi?rttaylor[Edited on November 28, 2005 at 2:03 PM. so one of my sites has gone over the bandwidth limit by over a gig, and that's happened twice in recent months.i've emailed, i've opened tickets, if i had his phone # i would've called...i've been practically begging to give him more money and.......nadaoh well, he hasn't shut it off so that's good i guess
11/30/2005 11:16:05 AM
anyone heard from him lately? i filed a support ticket but havent heard back yet

i wonder what the chances would be of getting mySQL upgraded on the server to 5, or at least the latest 4.1.xi'm wrestling with a Gallery2 module install that appears to not work on mySQL 4.0.x ....
11/30/2005 6:20:52 PM
Im running gallery 2 fine
11/30/2005 6:41:44 PM
Gallery2 module - http://gallery.menalto.com/node/33285http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=152877anyway, i just installed an older version of the module (0.1.8 instead of the latest 0.1.9) and at least it installs now. If it actually works, we'll have to see.I thought maybe it was a mySQL error because someone else in that thread had the same error, and it was fixed when he upgraded from mySQL 3.x to 4.1.x.edit - bloody hell. I installed checkout module 0.1.8, then did the upgrade to 0.1.9 and it works now. So who the hell knows. I guess no need to upgrade mySQL - if it ain't broke don't fix it?[Edited on November 30, 2005 at 6:52 PM. Reason : .]

bttanyone heard from him lately?
12/5/2005 2:24:21 AM
well i just got my automated renewall invoice.....so i guess that's good that something over there is working so my domain doesn't slip away.I guess the only thing keeping me from switching to another provider at this point is that I'm not sure I could get the proper support from wolfmarsh for helping with the switch (closing accounts, exporting data if necessary, changing DNS), and that I have so many custom programs and databases set up there surely something that will go wrong - 3 wordpress installs, 1 Gallery1 and 4 Gallery2 installs.....

Does anyone know of a comparable service that provides ssh access?
12/5/2005 10:59:26 AM
1and1 and dreamhost have been mentioned above for cheap reliable services. Looks like 1and1 offers ssh starting with their "Business" plan at $10/month (includes 20GB storage, 1TB transfer/month) - http://order.1and1.com/xml/order/HostingOverviewand looks like dreamhost offers it for all plans - http://dreamhost.com/panel/features.htmlwhich also start around $10/month (or $8 for 2 years prepaid) http://dreamhost.com/shared/comparison.html
12/5/2005 11:12:11 AM
^^^ i am very worried about that myself
12/5/2005 11:17:41 AM
I ended up giving up my domain and switching to Tranquil Hosting w/ mellocj. I'd tell everyone to go there, but it seems whoever becomes the "TWW Host" ends up turning into shit http://www.tqhosting.com/ncsu.php[Edited on December 5, 2005 at 11:24 AM. Reason : ---]

http://www.dreamhost.com/r.cgi?stowawayuse that link to sign up and you get the year's worth of hosting for less than $25.
12/5/2005 11:57:05 AM
use promo code TWW on dreamhost to get $97 off of all the larger acounts, 50-60 off the short term acounts. I aet up a referal acount and se4t it to use 100% of the referal payout as a promo discount.
