I think I'll start tinkering on the Teggy...git 'er into a little shape.Gettin' another CV shaft tomorrow, as the lefty has been clicking for over a year, and has finally progressed to somewhat violent popping. So there you have it. I knew the boot had gone tits up around graduation time for me (May 2004), and I've been driving it ever since...haven't wanted to fuck with it or buy another one. I'm the original cheap bastard. So, anyway, I have GOTTA do something with this suspension; it's wore the fuck out. And I have a few rust holes that need doctoring. And it needs a thorough cleaning out on the inside...prolly all them empty salt packets that have caused the corrosion.I gotta get this car prepped up for some DE's next year. Just so I have something to thrash while I'm trying to get my 280 in shape.
11/20/2005 11:53:48 PM
thrashing on completing my front suspension and front axle shave. maybe cutting off the existing flat bed and starting on the rear suspension if i have time (doubtful).

Thanks Ivan, got a few more questions. Why replace the cam? more performance or are they prone to failure? What brand of tune up parts do these thing like? I was allready considering the water pump and I suppose an oil pump is cheap insurance, Ill add them to the list. Im looking to drive this thing as my daily driver for at least a year so any other "usual" problems please let me know so I can take care of it now. I dont know anything about Isuzu's. Its the first foriegn car Ive ever owned. Thanks for all your help Dave

no, stock cam is fine... a delta regrind will just give you some extra oomph, especially noticeable for holding 5th gear on highway grades. for the price, you can't go wrong. a pacesetter header helps these motors out alot too. only other things i can think of off hand you may want to replace for maintinance is the thermal valve. like any high mileage motor, vacuum lines get hard/brittle over the years too (especially under the intake manifold). dizzy rotor wouldn't hurt either, damn things will still run on one in terrible shape. other than that, there's not really much that commonly fails on them before 200k miles and they're damn near impossible to kill with abuse. the only "major" thing to keep an eye out for is the head. certain castings are prone to cracking or at least warping and causing the gasket to pop. AMC makes a sweet replacement for ~500 bucks though that will cure it. you can check the casting number by throwing some light around the back of the head and sticking a dentists mirror back around there. the higher the number, the better the casting... you're hoping for a 4. don't confuse the casting number with the motor spec number that's back there (4ze1). casting number will be seperate (above) from it.

^good work! so productiveWhat I did:*Troubleshooting slow ass frontier by removing cat (thinking the replaced muffler is TOO restrictive). Well turns out the truck became way faster, so I'll look into a new muffler or exhaust. Truck is currently LOUD AS F*CK I only drove it once to test it though.. makes me paranoid driving it around that loudly.*Installed universal replacement antennae on 240sx (difficulty 10/10)*Added a quart of oil into 240sx (difficulty 9.5/10)*Mounted new amp in 240sx (difficulty 10/10) hard work right there 370cc injectors did not arrive, so I'll probably do those this coming weekend.[Edited on November 28, 2005 at 12:58 PM.
