Rece Davis just called Gonzaga a real National powerhouse, and no longer a mid-major. I have no hatred for Gonzaga, but it's hard for me to believe that they could compete year in and year out in some of the major conferences such as the Pac-10, SEC , Big 10, Big XII, Big East, and the ACC. Would you call Gonzaga a powerhouse?

they would compete... they just wouldn't win as much...

thye're good, definately a team to fear year in-year out, but until they win big i dont think anyone's going to consider them a powerhouse

They do get all the good recruits from that area. But they need to beat more top teams from the major conferences and do something in the tourney.

Winning the Maui Invitational would be one HUGE step, and validate what Rece Davis said instantly

i think they are a dangerous team, just not on that elite/powerhouse level yet. how many prestige stars would you give them ala NCAA Basketball. i'd give them a 4 out of 6.

Yeah...since that one run in the tourney, they haven't done that much to prove they're a "powerhouse." It's time to step up or let it go...

I've been a long time Zags fan and I wish I could say they would be able to survive in one of the power conferences. I'm sure they could play, and play well, but they wouldn't be dominating the conference as they do the WCC. I think the Zags are forever going to be a very talented team in a mid-major conference who has the potential to make long runs to the championship... just wish they could win it one of these years.

hey, remember when powerhouses, you know, had to WIN something to be a powerhouse.

They're just the best mid-major since UNLV, and theyre definately no UNLV.

Since their long run in the tourney which was 2000 I think? they have not made it past the 2nd round. Powerhouse when Pepperdine is your greatest conference competition.

"With a home win over Virginia and a neutral-floor win over Maryland this year, Gonzaga is now 7-1 all time against the ACC. That is absolutely stunning. Granted, Virginia may not be the best the ACC has to offer this year, but to have won seven of eight against the ACC?"

try playing all acc teams for your conference schedule, without much rest in between

UNLV was the best team money could buy, so you can't really compare them to Gonzaga.

Is Gonzaga a 'powerhouse'? No. But are they a consistent top 20 team? Yes. Not many schools can say that.

And IMO, Morrison is better than JJ. But Rudy Gay is still the first pick on the draft, easy.

it would be silly to waste a number one pick on JJ

As far the East. Wash. game, every team has an off night. Ask Duke about VT. (I know VT is better than EWU, but neither team is going to the dance and Duke had home court. The Zags-EWU was on a neutral floor).

He is freaking BARELY 19. Of course 2 Seniors are better. Rudy is a lot like Marvin Williams last year. Everyone knows he has unbelievable talent it's just a matter of time before he puts it all together.
