didn't realize that i posted this in chit chat....seriously, do you think a thank you note or small gift is in order or not, i mean this could potentially influence the rest of my life, and if they help get me into a school i don't think it's too much trouble to write them a note, but would this seem weird, or normal?

Thank you notes or emails are completely appropriate. It is also a nice courtesy to at least let the person know the results of your quest.

I wrote a note. It is also a nice subtle way to remind them to do it if they are a bit slow on it.
