ok quick story. bought parts for a new computer. built it. onboard lan was bad on the MB and the initial hdd wouldnt format. both were sent back for replacement. the hdd got held up at the PO for some reason but my mb got shipped processed and sent back to me extremely fast (within 5 days even tho i shipped it 3-5 day ground and so did new egg..suprisingly fast from both ends).i have an extra IDE drive that i was thinking of hooking up this weekend and installing windows to a small partition to test out the new mb and play a game or two (to hold me over for another week or more before i get the new hdd back) since i really havent gotten to mess with the machine. unfortunately, the new thermal grease i ordered for my processor is getting shipped back with the hdd and i dont have any here. If anyone happens to have any Arctic Silver ceramique thermal paste that i could use some of or buy for a few bucks this weekend thatd be great.also, tips on applying it since ive never done it and dont want to ruin the mb, processor[Edited on November 17, 2005 at 4:14 PM. applying is easy. seat the proc, add 2 dollops about the size of a pea near the center of the processor. plop the fan on it and lock it down.

ok cool. i had heard stories of ppl putting too much and drippnig of hte sides and ruining a MB or not putting enough that when they put the fan on it didnt spread out far enough tothe corners and it burned up

if you manage to burn up a cpu with too little thermal grease you need to pursueA) newer hardwareB) different brand (read intel)

right. altho the people that burned theirs up were intel. this thing was staying MAJOR cool for the bit that i had it running on a backup HD. (around 30C idle). maybe with some better thermal grease when i put this stuff back on itll drop a degree or so i figured it wouldnt be too hard, but it cant hurt to ask just to be sure. didnt want to ruin a 300 dollar processor[Edited on November 17, 2005 at 4:34 PM. good deal. i definitely dont have anything against P4s i just got an AMD cuz i like them better for gaming etc personally.both are quality, and its nice to have 2 competing brands

water boils at about 50c or 60c i think

uh...water boils at exactly 100 deg celcius, and water freezes at exactly 0 deg celcius. it's the whole reason for celcius/metric being superior.

boonedock, that is actually less than the recommended by hp.they send you a syringe with a shitload in it! i only use half. but yeah, does not take much. I use 2 BB's instead of 1.
