does anyone know of a good one. I downloaded "smartftp" ftp.smartftp.com and it sucks because it gives an anonymous user/password, but the anonymous doesn't allow you to install software on a router. also there is no option to register a login / password. unless you pay for it.does anyone know how to get around this. i've downloaded 3 ftp servers and they're all the same. no notes on registering a log-in / password.-need help. have to install software on a cisco router.

insteadyou should just like....smoke some bowls drink your perignon and hit up scores.
11/17/2005 2:36:34 PM
why do you need to setup and run an FTP server?
11/17/2005 2:45:14 PM
Sounds like one of the other FTP programs started a service that binds the port.I believe it can be found at Start -> Control Panel -> Services (don't quote on that though, sitting at a Mac at the moment). The ones I played around with were just labeled FTP server or something in the Services window that will open. Just had to turn it off and delete the service. Then could install another one.A restart probably would have worked, but didn't want to do that.I'm currently using Serv-U, but haven't tried out Filezilla yet. Would like to.[Edited on November 17, 2005 at 2:48 PM. Reason : asdf]

11/17/2005 3:11:01 PM

11/17/2005 3:55:05 PM
put it on a different port like 57043 or 2121 or 27 or 2009
11/17/2005 4:05:00 PM
relax b, spark a spliff
11/17/2005 4:41:03 PM
how do I change to a different port.
11/17/2005 4:45:33 PM
"couldn't bind socket: [10048] Address already in use" getting this error message when attempting to use FTP server. I'm running XP and I've deleted all other FTP servers. I'm attempting to upgrade software on a Cisco router. I can't get around inputting a user name and password in the router for the FTP server. I noticed using the "anonymous" login on other free FTP servers does not provide the ability to complete the upgrade.

^ raiden is awesome, but it can be pretty tricky to configure (at least for me, anyways)
11/18/2005 9:42:02 AM
but once configured, best ftpd i bought it like 3 years ago for $12.95 (student price) and it contained all the features of the now $90 price for advanced users. i lucked out and am glad to have bought it.
11/18/2005 9:52:21 AM
I bought the non-database-interfaceable version, and used it with SSL all the time before I setup a secure VPN to share files back and forth from my main computerI didn't really need all the functionality it provides, but the reason I got it was because I was told it was the best and most secure/stable one out. I think it's used by a lot of l33t warez people, because if you check the forums it sounds like these people are setting up ratio servers, file checking, etc.the virtual file system is very cool, although I don't really have a use for it
11/18/2005 10:13:17 AM
Services is found under Control Panel -> Administrative Tools
11/18/2005 10:14:40 AM
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK !!! is there anyone of these that will work that are FREE !!!
11/18/2005 1:31:53 PM
They'll all work.
11/18/2005 1:39:20 PM
how do I go about that.

Question.how the fuck do you expect to run an ftp server on your windows box to upgrade the firmware on your ROUTER? You're probably looking for a client. Which doesn't explain why you're getting socket errors, unless it's a NAT/firewall issue or a private ip issue. It kind of sounds like you are setting up an ftp server on windows, then trying to connect to it using your public ip. you need to find the router's ip and port it runs the ftpd on as well as the user/pass.http://www.flashfxp.com is the best imhohttp://www.ftprush.comhttp://www.uftp.com? whatever utopia ftp used to be or is or whatever.and fuck raiden. G6FTPD 4 lyfe.glftpd when and where it matters
11/18/2005 3:46:08 PM
my IT admin guy set me up with an internal ftp server with login and password and this sh!t still doesn't work.wanted to get this done today - now I have to fuck around on this this weekend till i get it fixed.
11/18/2005 4:21:58 PM
^ wait, how big is the file, what version are you upgrading from? also what type of router?Doing a "software install upgrade" from 2.0.1 to 2.1.3, for example, isn't supported...can't be done. I'd suggest just doing a "software install clean" then restoring your configs and data from your latest 2.0.1 backup.
11/18/2005 4:22:59 PM
i think i got around the socket issue by having my IT admin set up the FTP server on the LAN. i'm upgrading from CISCO UNITY EXPRESS 2.1.2 TO 2.1.3 ............... this is a fucking headache. and the router doesn't have a CISCO support contract. it's a 2801 and this is a pain in the ASS (no homo).

Do you see the CUE module attempting to access the FTP in the logs?
11/18/2005 4:48:58 PM
for TFTP when doing the initial installer yes. it went through fine.this particular FTP server that was set up I don't see any logs. i'm viewing it through Internet Explorer. I have files loaded in a folder of the FTP server that my admin guy set up.
11/18/2005 4:52:28 PM
what's the syntax you're entering?should look something like this
software download upgrade url ftp://ftp_server_ip_address/cue-package.pkg

that's the alternate way. it's that way or the boot loader . . .
11/18/2005 5:05:17 PM
might there be an access list blocking port 21 or TCP?
11/18/2005 5:10:14 PM
fuck. i read that, but another cisco guy told be the boot helper was the only way.

Yeah I guess i'm most definately confused on the issue. You don't have to pull the "i work for cisco why the fuck would you think our routers are inferior to mini natboxen put out by netgear" card. I knew he wasn't using a consumer level router. I assumed however, that the firmware was updated by an ftpd that the cisco router had running, such as logging in via telnet.I can only assume the ftpd you install on windows acts as some kind of proxy/middle man between the PC which has the firmware binary and the router itself? I do not work for cisco, nor do I claim to know everything there is to know about their hardware. I made a mistake. Now since I have already douchenozzled my self in this thread I will risk further humiliation of being wrong.
11/18/2005 5:18:22 PM
That error message means one of two things1. The CUE can't reach the FTP server (most likely cause)2. That file isn't in the directory on the FTP server you specified.when you pinged, were you sessioned into NM-CUE, thus sourcing it from there?
11/18/2005 5:18:57 PM
So the router has access to the internetAnd the package is hosted on the ftp server he setupcan't you upload the pkg file to a webserver?I could be getting myself deeper and deeper trying to fix a problem I have no idea about but if the router and the ftpd are on the same internal network (probably not the case?) then you probably know the public ip wont work, you have to use the private.[Edited on November 18, 2005 at 5:22 PM. touche.but is the router on a complete different network than the ftpd?
