ok queers, need some suggestions. my floor is concrete (not the smooth kind, the kind with pores) so ive got lots oil stains and they aint coming out. now, i was gonna just re paint it with that kit type shit they sell at home depot/lowes. the epoxy kits. but i saw some cool stuff in the "sky mall" magazine that delta has, a garage floor cover .

but thats $IRAN.

sooo what can i do? something durable for stains and tough for jack/stands.

my boss got like god knows how many cans and did his whole shop, like 2 coats. he said it wasnt real expensive. i might just get his leftovers if i can.

you can get the oil stains and shit up if the garage floor isn't in terrible shape (i.e. cracks and shit).

after you clean and condition the concrete, we used the epoxy kit and it worked out very well.

not much you can do about the stains, but most paints wont stick unless you seal the floor is it is very porous and stained

dish detergent (Dawn!) is my weapon of choice against oil (on hands, arms, rims, clothes..)

not sure how well it works on concrete, but give it a shot

You can get concrete cleaner at a number of different places. Car Quest sells Gunk's Swab, which I have used many times over. It does a really good job. It's an orange powder that turns neon green when it gets wet. Wet the surface and sprinkle directly on. Brush it in with a push broom or scrub brush. Hose off.

Zep also makes a liquid concrete cleaner, same as the powder stuff. It's all got sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, and probably something like 2-butoxyethanol in it. Caustic shit, I tell ya. You can get the Zep stuff @ Lowe's in their pressure washing and shit section, I believe. I still have a little bit left here at the hizzle...bought it in a gallon jug.

Of course, you could etch the hell out of it with some muriatic acid, but I'd just recommend the cleaners.

Muriatic acid, will clean and etch the floor, making it ready for paint or epoxy. And as will any paint or coating the finish is only as good as the prep work.

In our shop, the building owners pulled up old carpet and vinyl and put down new epoxy floor. But they didn't do the prep right. So now less than 6 months later it comes up here and there, especailyl with hot or wet tires.

the best thing to use to clean up concrete is gasoline. i'm sure its very not environmantally friendly and you need to have the place well-ventilated, but it gets your concrete looking like a fucking dentene ice commercial

don't use the lowe's / home depot epoxy, but use either an industrial epoxy from a paint company or the stuff they sell out of the back of popular mechanics. Thats what I was told by a friend of my dad who runs an industrial painting business

i don't think muriatic acid will get the stains up anyway. i've always found it to work great for surface stains, but won't touch soaked in oil stains.

yeah, i haven't found anything to get the actual stain out. Just use some sort of degreasing agent to get the surface and maybe penetrate a little ways into the concrete. Then seal it and put on what ever your gonna use.

it was mentioned that the muriatic acid etches the concrete to provide a better surface for epoxy. or maybe i was thinking bout something else.
